I’m sorry for writing this sad, but hopeful Hellcheer blurb.
Chrissy nestled her face into Eddie’s pillow. Slowly breathing in his distinct scent (mixed with a hint of cigarette) that still lingered. She could still feel his warmth embedded within the fabric.
Corroded Coffin was all set for their first tour! Everyone in the band had every reason to celebrate! Eddie was the most ecstatic! All of their hard work and saving up finally paid off. Despite his excitement, reality hit him harder than a ton of bricks. This meant he wouldn’t see Chrissy for months. She was well aware of this big change when he told her the good news. She’d been anticipating it for a while as well. As hard as it was for them, this was no time to mope around.
They spent their last week together visiting the places they loved. The local coffee shop, the park, the aquarium, the art museum, and the zoo. Even walking the city streets brought them such joy knowing that there was still so much to explore. They spent their evenings talking, dancing, and reminiscing about their small hometown. They found time to make love each night as well. Wanting to make these precious moments last just a little longer before the next day began.
In the wee small hours of the morning, Eddie had woken Chrissy up. He had his suitcase and guitar ready by the door. He wanted to enjoy one last cup of coffee with her, before heading off to the airport. Neither of them wanted to believe that the big day finally arrived. They did their best to hold back their tears, not wanting to ruin the moment. Chrissy tried her best to change the subject. Focusing on how excited she was about starting her first semester of college soon. Eddie couldn’t be more prouder of how far she’s come; she feels the same for him.
Still, he was scared for her. Feeling so guilty about leaving her alone in their city apartment. He had begged her to come too, but college was just around the corner. She had a second chance at starting her new life and he couldn’t take that away from her. Despite the lump in her throat, she still encouraged him to go. This was Corroded Coffin’s big chance to get their music out there. Eddie promised to write her and call her while he was on tour.
At the airport terminal, Chrissy gave each band member a big hug. Wishing them safe travels and best wishes to them. When she reached Eddie, she could see that he couldn’t hide his sadness any longer. Their hug lasted the longest. Hands held on tightly to each other, as tears cascaded down their tired faces. He nuzzled his face into her hair, while she pressed her cheek to his chest. Chrissy and Eddie shared one last kiss.
The final departure message for the upcoming flight was announced. He gave her his silver skull ring and she gave him her golden heart shaped necklace. Neither piece of jewelry would fit, but that didn’t matter. Even with the distance between them, a little piece of them would always remain close by.
