yes you should, actually. that's life. upsetting things happen. no one should have to experience any discomfort. but we do. we get stung by bees and sunburns and headaches. we live in bodies in the world.

autistic people are human beings who have the right to exist in society, including during meltdowns. having one class of your entire semester interrupted by a singular meltdown is not anymore of an infringement upon your entitlement to education than having your class interrupted by a fire alarm or cancelled for a snow storm.

one of my peers once experienced a cardiac event 10 minutes into class. it was terrifying. it was desperately upsetting. i was contacted by the school and offered counseling because i happened to be the one who managed the situation until paramedics arrived. everyone was worried about my classmate first and foremost, and then about me. no one blamed anyone, and certainly when my classmate happily recovered and returned to school, no one thought they should be removed from the program.

Like, ok, you get the truth bomb of all truth bombs after going through one of the most harrowing things of your entire life. You are a copy. YOU are a copy.

It's bad enough that the loops sanded you down into less than you were. You barely remembered anything before the loops even happened. It's even worse now. The small amount of memories you had are even smaller now, forgotten little shards of light in a swelling sea of darkness. Replaced by battle strategies, and keys, and lines, and outcomes, and death after death after death. Whatever semblance of identity you had have been washed away, smoothed like the rocks in the river you fished in so many times you lost count.

All you have left is the family you built.

But all of that was never even truly yours to begin with. Does what happened even really matter? You won, but you stole it. Not on purpose, but your very slot in this existence was to replace a part that was broken.

Who are you? Siffrin. But who is Siffrin? What did he like? What did he do? What even is a Siffrin??? This part that you were forced to play by some uncaring machination. You're not even THE Siffrin. You're the understudy. The replacement. You only exist because the one before you snapped under the pressure.

Do you even want this? You love your family. You do. You love them so much it makes your heart hurt. But that's... it. there's nothing else. Who are you? WHY are you?!
