he literally admitted to his sister that he used his ex boyfriend in an effort to feel better about missing his best friend. and sex is literally the only thing that made him feel better about missing eddie and be able to sleep in the house btw.
he tries to use ravi the entire episode to help tend to the wound of missing eddie because having a friend should help him with missing eddie right. but what helps him literally sleep at night is a bunch of alcohol and then sex. and he nearly gets back together with tommy. because ultimately what he’s trying to replace with eddie’s departure is not a best friendship but a romantic partnership. just without the sex. and then when he’s called out about his feelings he freaks the fuck out about it and gives a verbal admission without realizing it and says “i dont have to sleep with everyone i have feelings for” and then makes such severe denying claims to his own sister.

Buck pushes up onto his knees and looks up at Eddie with a pout, barely containing his smile. “My ice cream.”
“Fish food now,” Eddie pouts in return, standing right in front of Buck with his still-intact cone. He brings it to his mouth, but before he licks, he asks, “Hmm, I’m guessing you want some of this, huh?”
Buck nods.
Eddie clicks his tongue. “I dunno. After all that? Doesn’t seem right.”
“But Eddie,” Buck whines, remaining defeated in the sand with slumped shoulders. “I paid for them!”
Eddie snorts. “Uh huh.” He tries to remain firm, but Buck does this thing with his eyes, and somehow it disarms Eddie enough to give in. “Fine.”
He extends the cone to Buck, who then reaches to take it from Eddie.
“No way.” Eddie pulls back, maybe enjoying having the power a little too much. “Are you kidding me? I’m not letting you hold it. I’m not stupid.”
Buck blinks up at him, still breathing heavy from the chase, letting out a little huff.

Tagged by @eddiesgayladder (for the first lines meme but we're running with it) @sintari (my beloathed) and @gloomydiaz (!!!). I'm in hell* until next Thursday so progress has been very slow going, but have the one semi-completed chunk of what I am tentatively calling 'All My Exes (Live In My Neighborhood)'
“That’s a joke, by the way,” [Tommy] adds after a moment of awkward silence. “I think I still know you well enough to know you wouldn’t…”
He trails off, attention caught by something further down the aisle behind Buck. The tell-tale rapid thwaps of little sandals on concrete gives Buck an idea of what it is.
Theo appears beside him, arms wrapped around a box of Honey Nut Cheerios that’s almost as big as he is. Theo doesn’t even like Cheerios, at least not this month, as the barely touched box currently in the pantry can attest. But he has really liked bees recently, ever since a trip to the garden center with Maddie and the gang, when Jee-Yun had told him that they make flowers grow.
“Eddie says I can have this,” Theo says, lifting the box above his head to try and tip it into the cart.
“Nooo.” Eddie’s a little out of breath as he comes up next to them. “I said we had to ask Buck first, remember?”
But he’s already stooping down, lifting Theo up from under his armpits and letting him throw the box down into the cart at full-force.
“Yeah, great, more cereal,” Buck says, doing nothing to stop them.
“Eh, I’m sure Chris’ll eat it,” Eddie says as he puts Theo back down, giving him a high five for his excellent dunk.
Then Eddie looks up, eyes comically wide, and does the most exaggerated double take Buck has ever seen someone think they could pull off in person. “Oh, hey Tommy,” he says, with the same faux casual air that Chris has when he’s about to ask if he can break curfew. “Been a while, huh?”
Tommy gives him a tired, tight-lipped smile. “Hey, Eddie,” he says, amused. “And, uh… who’s this?’
Theo gives him a curious once-over, but quickly decides he’s much more interested in seeing if he can climb up into the cart all by himself. Eddie stands close behind, hands hovering and ready for the inevitable. Buck’s mouth feels very dry.
“So, this is Theo,” Buck starts his rote explanation. “He’s my friend Connor’s son. You know, the friend I, uh… helped?”
He gestures vaguely to try to get his point across. Eddie cuts him a sharp look for doing that in public, hands shifting like he's about to cover Theo's ears. Theo is long past wanting to listen, not that he would understand, focused entirely on getting his foot up over his own head.

the thing that gets me about Mother's Boy every time is that Buck's storyline leading up to it is about him not being sure if people accept the changes in him and that he struggles with knowing who he actually is vs. who he thinks people want/expect him to be, and then he's faced with a woman who literally wants him to be someone else because she thinks he'd be good at it. and he says no and plays along just to escape and tries to talk her out of it...up until he hears Eddie, and then he's willing to put aside all that growth to save him. He'll do it, he's ready to be Derek.
the thing that gets me about Mother's Boy every time is that you have Eddie who has struggled for seasons with people assuming the worst possible outcome about who he is. just in season 9 he had the lawyer touting that he's some violent, angry man and Abigail's father thinks he's taking advantage of her (fuck him, by the way), and the sheriff thinks he killed Buck. And then you have him trying to find out about Buck. He apologizes for taking Hector's clothes, he pays money for that shitty car. Until he's faced with what he thinks is a situation where Buck is in danger or already dead and then he's ready to embrace that false reputation he's been trying to disprove. He's ready to shoot, kill, fight to save him.
and finally, the thing that gets me about Mother's Boy every time is that in the end...neither one of them has to give up their individual journeys because the other has their back. Buck saves Eddie from embracing that false interpretation of him. Buck is the one who does any of the actual damage by using the cattle prod on Earl. Eddie was willing to shoot. He had the gun ready. But Buck stopped him from having to. And Eddie saves Buck from falling back into being what others want him to be. He screams "Buck", Buck's preferred name, loudly and repeatedly. Buck was willing to "be Derek" but Eddie made sure he didn't have to be. Eddie stopped him from having to.
