Buck salutes him. “Hurry back,” he says, “would hate for you to miss kickoff.” “It’s not—” Eddie starts, before realizing Buck is intentionally messing with him. He fights the smile that curves itself onto his lips, he really does, but it wins out anyway. “Goodbye.” The line isn’t as long as last time, or maybe it is, but at least he’s paying attention this time. Another draft Modelo for Eddie, a canned seltzer for Buck. Eddie frowns down at the open can in his hand. He totally could’ve snuck some in, the corner store by his house sells these by the case for the same price as one of them at the stupid concession stand. Whatever. If it makes Buck happy, he’d buy a can at the price they would wholesale a pallet. He sighs into his cup as he walks back, carefully navigating the crowd so he doesn’t spill as he drinks and walks at the same time. He almost misses tip-off, trying to shove his way past a couple making out on the stairs down to their section, but Buck holds his seat down for him to sit with just enough time for the referee to line up the starters. “Oh, yum,” Buck says, taking the seltzer from Eddie’s hand before he offers it, “black cherry.”
