Don't let Crows dreams be dreams.
People who are like, viciously against prison abolition confuse me. I'll admit that, in the end, I also struggle to imagine a world in which, even when nobody has any reason to, someone or another won't act in a way that could only be solved with restricting their autonomy. But people who would act in such a way, even when all their needs and wants are taken care of, in a society that has methods of healing and retribution that isn't punishment, are exceedingly rare. People will do unreasonable things, even in a perfect world, but the amount of people who will do unreasonable things repeatedly with no way of stopping them are astronomically rare.
Best case scenario, we find a way around this issue and the number of people in prison is 0 (a way around that doesn't involve killing people, I will clarify). Worst case scenario, we don't, but the vast majority of people who would be in prison now most likely did not act in the way that originally got them in trouble and, in the scenario they still did, had ways of making up for that and doing better that does not involve punishment (which exasperates the issue). Its a win-win either way, but since prison abolitionists don't have a magic solution for every problem people are willing to throw away the whole concept, even when working towards that goal will only lead to benefits even if it is never 100% achieved.
I feel like this sort of thing maps over (nearly) identically to psych abolition, mainly because psychiatry is a carceral in itself. It is an extension of the prison system.
"What about the ~violent evil schizophrenics/murderers/rapists/sociopaths/etc~" has never been a productive question, because it misunderstands the whole concept at its very basis. "Restricting autonomy is inhumane, we should work towards a world that does not restrict autonomy as much as possible" has always been the thesis.
You get it.
Pedestrian traffic lights
they should breed dogs that bark at 1/5th volume and with a deep and soothing resonance that calms the nervous system
STOP! Before you suggest “cats”, ask yourself:
1.) What is the OP most likely expressing in this post?
a.) a desire to hear a pleasant noise, any noise, from any source, under any circumstance
b.) a desire to replace a specific noise (barking) from a specific animal (dog) with a different, less objectionable noise
2.) Which is true about cats?
a.) they don’t make any loud noises that can strain the nervous system and only purr, even in circumstances during which dogs would bark
b.) they are known for making a variety of demanding and insistent vocalizations

every time you revlog this post, a new baby spider is born #miracleoflife
thing I am proud of: when the doctor started going on a weird rant about long covid not being real I paused and listened to his nonsense for a bit and then very calmly said, in a polite and curious tone, "you don't believe in post-viral illness?" and he like. stammered a bunch and was like OH WELL I'M NOT SAYING -- I DON'T...I just think ..! and backpedaled awkwardly while I just sat there like :3c interesting :3c thank you so much for clarifying your stance on this :3c
an important skill for chronically ill people to develop is the ability to treat the doctor as though they are simply a person you are interviewing to find out how much they know about your condition.
Holy shit op this is LITERALLY in the book 'Never Split The Difference: Negotiating as if Your Life Depends On It'. Written by a guy who did hostage negotiation and then tried doing business negotiation, and mopped the floor with industry experts.
I'm fortunate enough to have a primary care doctor who knows about hEDS, but it's occurring to me that the skills in this book could be medically life changing for chronically ill folks of all kinds. Like. Literally a matter of life and death, especially for BIPOC and/or fat and/or young people who are having their issues dismissed.
HMMM interesting!! will have to check this out
We’re gonna have an orgasm denial party and no, you can’t come.
Saw an ENT today who knew less than me about every single thing related to my care except "what sinus polyps look like." I really hate interacting with older male doctors like this because they will ALWAYS talk to me like I'm stupid, ALWAYS interrupt and talk over me when I try to give them information or explain something.
Guy says he doesn't think long covid is real. Says he has a buddy who worked at the CDC who says it's "overblown!" Oh, I see! You have a buddy! Geez! Here I was, subscribed to all of the advocacy and research groups for this and all related disorders, in multiple countries, so I can be completely up to date on the newest studies and literature from experts in the field, like some kind of chump! And you have a BUDDY. BOY IS THERE EGG ON MY FACE! Why didn't I think of that?! Oh! What a foolish and silly girl I am! I should have thought of being a condescending white man who "has a buddy!" Egg on my face for real!
I have become so radicalized about medical care at this point that I actually think specialists who know nothing about anything outside their very narrow area of study are useless. No one is a walking Nose. Patients are human beings with entire human bodies. This guy was skeptical that EDS is commonly comorbid with mast cell issues. I was like... yes. He said "well I haven't heard of that" as though that meant it couldn't be true, rather than that statement being evidence of his total ignorance of this field. White men are incredible. Utterly incredible. I was pleased to find that although my very mild tremor was bad enough that he noticed (it gets much worse in doctor's offices. weird how that works,) my reaction to his ignorance-expressed-as-skepticism was just pure contempt. No shame or fear at all. Just pure anger and disrespect. Progress! 🙃
OH I FORGOT THE FUNNIEST PART: he was skeptical that I have any CSF leaks, and kept demanding "but where?" and when I tried to explain the concept of spontaneous leaks he interrupted and said IT ONLY COMES OUT THE NOSE OR EARS. ...
....
like ... this is why the siloing of medical care is evil. Are you kidding me. I see doctors who are experts in this. I know more than you.
i dont get how people edge like i be trying to get that stuff out faster than a union rep at walmart
