Productivity and disability
Hey! Most of y'all don't know, but beyond having mental illness, I have a physical disability. It's not constant so some days it rarely effects me, but some days I can't even leave my bed. I have really bad knee issues due to crooked legs and overuse as a kid. Most days I walk with a slight limp and I can't run or jump or do anything like that. And it severely impacts my life many days. I decided to make this post because I saw some tags about how my last busy life post was kind of useless for disabled people and I have to agree. So for those times where I can't get out of bed, but still want to be productive (just anything to get my mind off the pain) here's some things I do to manage my busy life:
I informed my job about both my mental and physical health issues and made sure I talked with whoever my manager would be to let them know there may be days where I have to call out or will be severely limited in my abilities, especially since I don't claim a disability on legal paperwork (I haven't been able to get to a doctor in years cus I'm way too broke)
I also email my professors and let them know that I may miss class sometimes because I physically can't move and discuss options I have on those days.
I always keep chargers, my laptop, earbuds, phone, water, snacks, sweaters, my wallet, etc in reach of my bed just in case I wake up to a bad day. That way everything I could need is there and I can spend more time resting.
Naps! Do not push yourself. When you get tired, rest. Your body needs it.
Try to clean as you go when you can so that when you have a couple days in a row where you can't do anything at all, you won't be stressed over all the cleaning you have to do.
If you have friends or family that live near you, reach out to them. I'm sure they'd bring you some food at the very least.
Animals can be amazing companions and really help on those super bad days. But they can also be a burden. I'd definitely look into lower maintenance animals such as a crested gecko, a finch, or a cat instead of something higher maintenance like a sugar glider.
Keep a journal where you can vent. I know how bad your mental health can get after a bad day so please find an outlet to express yourself safely and let you process everything.
Try to get ahead of classwork when you have to ability so that you don't fall behind later.
Having someone you can vent to and talk to helps so much. I'm always here for y'all if you need as well ❤
Broths. Amazing. Pain makes it hard to eat anything
Sometimes being productive is focusing on you and your health and that's amazing! Take time to do so.
Keep up with treatment, whether it be meds, exercises, whatever.
Reward yourself!
Again remember to never push yourself too much. Do what you can and rest. You're doing amazing I promise.
I'd love to hear tips and advice from y'all too cus I still struggle quite a bit and am always looking for more ways to help! I know this advice doesn't fit everyone, as I only have the mobility issue and mental health things that impact me, but I do have good days where I am lightly effected. So please add on!

First post 🌱
I’m currently working on math review for the GRE and I really feel like I need to start from the absolute basics. After graduating college it’s been so long since I’ve done “basic” math like this. I feel like I’ve forgotten everything and it’s truly humbling. I need to keep in mind that I did not really forget (I used to be very good at math once upon a time), I just need a refresher. I’m not learning everything all over again - I am reviewing, remembering, and refining my skills.
This is dedicated to everyone else who feels embarrassed or disappointed that they are struggling with revisiting these topics they last mastered in high school. It’s okay, and you are not alone. As a /social/ scientist, it’s okay that your studies do not require expertise in areas such as these. Your contributions of knowledge to the world in other forms is just as valuable and important. Where would we be without an understanding of history, human behavior, society, language, culture, literature? Our world as we have made it is so much more than understanding its physical form, when so much takes place in a realm we cannot see, touch, smell, taste, or hear.
Maybe a bit dramatic for a first post, but I’ve been pondering this a lot since I’ve started revisiting math skills for my GRE preparation.

For some reason lately my daily posts have only been history of political institutions notes and food. And thinking about it, it's the best way to describe these past days. Tomorrow morning I will finally have my exam, thankfully it's online so I won't have to wake up at 4.45 as I feared. I cannot wait for it to be over, I should be on of the firsts in line, so hopefully by mid morning I will be done and free. My anxiety is kicking my butt quite a bit, but I am trying to tell myself that by tomorrow at this time I will be done with all of this. Other than studying this morning I had a very fulfilling journaling session, I read first thing in the morning, and I also practiced Irish on duolingo.

01.06.2022 │ My big stationary order arrived today! ♡
My Spring semester starts on the 10th of Jan. and I thought I would treat myself to some better notebooks, sticky notes, pens, organizers, and stickers (just for fun)! Now I just need my order with my new water bottle and my highlighters to come in and I’ll need to get myself a new bag that can fit my clunky laptop.

This is my first coding assignment for my software engineering class that started today. It’s going to be a really good semester.
UPDATE: I got my grade back and
“100″
Since this post has gotten some attention, I feel like it’s worth mentioning that this was just the first half of the assignment.
The second half, which we weren’t made aware of until the day we were meant to turn this one in, was to trade USB drives with the person sitting next to us and MODIFY their “unreadable” code without getting any help from them.
This was to teach us two things:
1) In this field, you’ll spend more time working with code written by other people than you will writing original code from a blank slate. The people who wrote the original code will probably not be around to help you. Learning to read code is IMPORTANT, even if it seems unreadable.
2) There is a strong brotherhood/sisterhood among programmers and software engineers. Respect that bond when you’re writing code and documentation. In my professor’s words: “When you write code, pretend that the person who will have to maintain it after you’re gone is a homicidal maniac who knows where you live.”
This class and professor are incredible.
