hello! I'm Sarah and I'm re-entering the studyblr community after a few years for motivation and accountability :)

a little about me:

26, she/her

linguistics PhD student !!

my first language is English but I speak intermediate(?) Japanese (still studying!) and I've also started studying Korean

I studied abroad in Japan and taught English there for a couple of years after graduation

outside of my studies I enjoy reading, listening to a wide range of music genres, being outside in anyway I can, playing animal crossing, and art (mostly viewing, sometimes making it poorly)

I'm a devoted atiny (hence my blog name, you might guess my bias from my pfp)

I'm not sure yet if I'll be posting many photos, it might be mainly text-based

happy friday!! I got an earlier start today so hoping to get quite a bit done today...I have a busy week ahead. it is extremely difficult to focus when your favorite artist releases new music though 🥲 im trying to use that as a reward for getting my things done today

goals:

actually finish my preliminary lit searches and log data from results

compile everything to send to adviser (this is really the last day I'm giving myself I have to send it today...)

today has been so so busy and I haven't been able to sit down to do work until now...I had physical therapy bright and early, came home to have breakfast, went to the laundromat, came home and tidied up & had lunch, then had another appointment and now it is already 2 pm 🥲 fingers crossed I have the energy to get the rest of my tasks done today...

goals:

finish going through ref list and add to Zotero

complete and export keyword search results

picking back up! I had a fun weekend with friends I haven't seen in a while, and the past couple days were spent sorting out some finances and getting my life together a bit more :') I also had a chat yesterday with a fellow phd student who is visiting home for the summer and it was so nice to hear I'm not alone in some of the struggles I've been having this summer

goals:

go ahead with a preliminary plan for my lit search and compile everything I have to be ready to send to my adviser tomorrow

work on making a list for coding variables

happy july!! I cannot believe we're over halfway through the year already...where has the time gone...we're in a flood watch right now and it's absolutely down pouring, but it's a nice break from the heat at least

can't believe it's the last day of june! friday did not go as planned for me and I got nothing done 😭 my back pain was acting up quite a bit last night so I slept in super late today as well and have maybe like 10% of my normal energy levels…so I'm going to keep the to-do list small today and just do my best!

if I get all this done today I will be very impressed with myself :') there's some advice I've seen before that you can always start your day over whenever you want--so I'm going ahead with that mindset!

yet another insanely hot day & spending it in the library that is freezing cold...but I actually managed to get myself out of the house earlier than I normally do!

goals for the day:

spend at least 30 minutes working on some revisions of a term paper for my preliminary exams ✗

korean vocab review & move on to my next grammar lesson ✓

japanese reading or writing practice (whichever I feel called to in the moment) ✗

continue working on my lit search for my research (I don't know what I'm doing ever with this so I don't really have a set end goal for the day...) ✓

get in some more reading for my lit review (at least 2 papers?) ✗

I always feel like this is never enough work I should be doing...but summer is so lonely and honestly boring, this is the most I usually have energy for so I'll try not to feel too guilty!

log: I forgot about an online appointment I had today that took some time this afternoon, and considering what time I started this morning I think a lot of this was overly ambitious and thus did not get done...however, I did get into a nice flow of focus working on my lit search and I think I'm finally (I hope) starting to figure out how to master the database searching so I can finish my collection and start filtering papers...let's hope my adviser agrees!! so glad tomorrow is friday and my goal is to get to campus much earlier (and bring extra snacks this time!)
