I know Yarros said in an interview that she’s not as perceptive because she’s doubting herself and her confidence comes from knowledge and facts (or something like that), but I never got that impression from Violet. Maybe it just wasn’t conveyed well in the text. How did you feel about her intelligence level in IF?

She also just accepted that fuckass poisoned lemonade from Nolon without so much as thinking it was a little bit weird he happened to be right there after she'd just committed at least three felonies OR that he might not be acting in her best interests like. Xaden’s favorite time was the middle of the night, when his wife slept peacefully and he got to hold his daughter and watch the snow falling.

Fia, like her mother, liked the library. Xaden was sure it was the floating mage lights that kept her attention—at seven months old, she certainly couldn’t read—but it was the place that calmed her the quickest when she wouldn’t sleep. He liked to think it was something she’d gotten from Violet.

Fia looked like him: his warm brown skin, his dark hair and dark eyes, his mouth. But she had Violet in the shape of her nose, the fullness of her cheeks. She was calm and quiet like Violet, attentive and curious, even just beginning to sit up and grab for anything within reach. She liked Xaden’s wedding ring, liked the texture of Violet’s dragon scale corset. She liked looking at the dragons: she would sit and stare at Andarna for hours if Xaden let her, endlessly fascinated by her shifting scales as Andarna stretched her wings in the sun.

She was an easy baby for the most part, but Violet’s pregnancy had been hard.

They’d assumed it would be, but she’d been in pain almost constantly—aching joints and swollen feet and hands. By the second half, she spent more time in bed than out of it, barely sleeping due to the pain. Thanks to Brennan and the best midwife in Tyrrendor, the birth had been smooth, though long; Violet labored for over a day before Fia joined them. Then she’d spent more weeks recovering, Fia sleeping on her chest as Violet read to her.

It was why Xaden always got up in the night when Fia woke. Violet would have done it gladly, he knew that, but she’d given so much to bring Fia into the world while he’d only been able to watch. Rocking her back to sleep once or twice a week was the least he could do. Violet protested, and he ignored her. Sometimes she’d come find them, but more often than not she slept on comfortably and didn’t wake until Xaden joined her in bed again.

“What do you think?” Xaden murmured to Fia, stopping in front of a window and turning her around so she could look outside. She pressed a chubby little hand to the glass and cooed. “How long are we gonna be awake tonight?”

Fia babbled unintelligibly. Once the window had lost her attention, he shifted her in his arms so her head could rest against his shoulder, and she lay limply against his chest. He rubbed a broad hand up and down her back, marveling, not for the first time, at how tiny she was. How easily she fit into his arms. He never wanted to let her go.

Violet protested that it was bad for Fia to be held constantly. She needed to move and look and engage with the world around her. Xaden argued that she’d have years to do those things, and he only had a few months to hold her like this. That usually made Violet soften, and she got that tender expression on her face that he never tired of because it reminded him that she loved him just as much as he loved her.

He walked half a dozen laps around the library, humming under his breath. Fia settled slowly as he rocked her, bouncing her lightly in the way she liked and stroking along her spine. He felt her little form go entirely limp, finally asleep; her head tipped to press against his neck, her breath against his skin, the beat of her heart against his own. He could go put her back to bed, but he didn’t stop walking.

Just a little longer, he decided. Just a few more minutes holding her.

“I think she’s drooling on you,” a voice whispered, breaking through the still serenity of the library.

Xaden turned and found Violet leaning against a shelf, watching him with a soft look on her face.

“That’s what I’m here for,” Xaden murmured.

She smiled sleepily. She was in a nightgown and thin robe, barefoot with her hair loose and tangled, like she’d woken and hadn’t wanted to be alone. “Come here,” she said quietly.

Xaden went. He held Fia with one arm, and reached out with the other to take Violet’s hand. She fit her fingers into the spaces between his and stepped in close, resting her head against his chest next to their daughter. She stretched on her toes to brush a fleeting kiss against Fia’s soft cheek, and then titled her face up to Xaden expectantly.

He kissed her forehead, the tip of her nose, and finally pressed his mouth to hers. “I love you,” he murmured.

I mentioned this earlier in my previous theory but I’m going to go more deeper in to it… the fable of the barrens I believe is not just a story but a prophecy.

The Fables of the Barren discusses three brothers who fought to control the magic when an ancient kingdom spanned ocean to ocean. One brother bonded a dragon, one bonded a gryphon and when the third grew jealous, he drew directly from the source (becoming the first venin), loosing his soul and waging war on the other two. The Fables of the Barren also state that 'it was the third brother, who commanded the sky to surrender its greatest power, who finally vanquished his jealous sibling at a great and terrible price.

In fourth wing when a venin approaches Violet she tells her “no wonder you were sent here, you could command the sky to surrender all of it power, you do not know what kind of power you possess”.

The venin sage also wants her bought to him ALIVE and the venin are wanting just her SPECIFICALLY.

Violet is the third sibling (the lightning wielder)

And her parents or one of her parents aren’t her real parents because Mira and Brennan are both riders not a gryphon rider and a venin…

Because this sibling is said to be jealous and became the first venin. I’m not saying this sibling is the VERY first venin but the one that restored the power in recent years after the stop of them 600 years ago.

This is why I’m leading on towards Naolin who was Tairn’s previous rider. It is said “he did not fail but lost everything”. Which confirms he is not dead and the only way Tairn could live without his rider is if he died or turned Venin.

Naolin has a lot to be jealous of Violet for, she is bonded to his old dragon and possesses a lot of power.

But… this sibling could not bond with ANY dragon or gryffon so it must not be Naolin. But I still do think Naolin is alive and will be an enemy of Violet until he gets cured, I can see Naolin and Violet teaming up and Tairn being so proud of his riders *awww*

So I believe we haven’t met her real siblings yet but what about her parents?

We know Violet never had a great relationship with her mum but had a great one with her dad. But if I’m being honest I don’t think Lilith and her husband are violets biological mother and father. It is never stated that Violet has any resemblance to her family but it is mentioned all the rest of them look alike.

If you read my theory before this one you’ll see what I mean by her real parents still being alive and venin but either way I have no idea who they are.

And this sibling who is jealous knows of violets existence but how? Are they older than violet and remember her from when she was a baby? Did they grow up together but Violet had her memories wiped? Do they know of her because of the prophecy? Or have they known Violet her whole life but never revealed to her their relation?

If Violet had her memories wiped by someone who had the signet to wipe memories and joined the sorrengails later in her childhood then Brennan and possibly Mira must remember and know that she is “adopted”.

SO IN CONCLUSION I THINK THAT HER REAL FAMILY IS OUT THERE AND WILL MAKE AN APPEARANCE IN AN UPCOMING BOOK. I ALSO THINK WE WILL HAVE A BIG SHOWDOWN AND A BIG “WTF” MOMENT WHEN IT IS REVEALED THAT THIS VENIN IS HER BROTHER (could be sister) AND A GRYFFON RIDER IS ANOTHER SIBLING THAT SHE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF. HOWEVER THE VENIN ONE WILL BE A BIT LIKE “no luke i am your father” MOMENT HAha… PLUS VIOLET WILL KILL THIS SIBLING IN BATTLE AND WHO EVER ELSE TURNS EVIL!

That it's the third brother that drew directly from the source... But also the third brother that surrendered the skies power and destroyed his jealous sibling.

Who says that the jealous sibling is the venin one and not the gryphon and or dragon rider who possibly was jealous of the vast amount of power the venin channeled?

The third brother in both mentions (thou the first quote doesn't explicitly mention the order in " first, second and third") could be the same one, in that case, the venin.

On another note, I definitely thought about Violet's family not being her real family. First I thought maybe mama sorrengail cheated on pap sorrengail but after that heartfelt declaration from Lillith in IF I kinda don't see her doing that.

AN: This originates from a crack theory formed in a group chat, about Violet being Malek's bride and-- to keep our OTP--about Xaden being Malek in human form. So, of course, my mind started spinning, and this is what came out. The dark legend that might, eventually, lead to a full story.

The legends say that defeating the armies of the Barrens came at the highest of all prices. It cost the winners everything.

But what was this price they paid? Why do none of the ancient documents talk about it? And who paid this highest of prices? 

Come. Come here. Come here and sit down with me. Let me tell you what happened, the tragic story of betrayal, of loss, of heartbreak, and of a debt we humans won’t ever be able to repay.

Let me tell you the story of Malek, God of Death, and of the forgotten Goddess of Life that once stood by his side. 

You’ve heard the legend of the three brothers, of how two of them rose to power and how the third turned to the forbidden gift. Of how they managed to defeat him, in the end. What those stories never talk about, however, is the deal the oldest brother was willing to strike in order to win. For he was the one truly hungering for power beyond anything else, and in his greed, he stopped at nothing. He offered him a powerful talisman, the cruel device, to enhance his mighty strikes. The device that would put an end to their most hated foes—at the cost of their most beloved treasure. 

The Lord of Death, unaware of the treachery, went to battle and wiped all dark wielders off the face of the earth in one powerful strike. 

Grateful and full of awe, the humans praised the God, their saviour, promising to burn all that belonged to the dead in his name, and the oldest brother, who devoted his life to this cause, was made king to rule over all of mankind.

This is where the legends end—but it is not the end of this story. For there was still the price to pay for their victory, and when Malek returned to his Palace, glowing and victorious. .. he found that something was missing. The price that had to be paid, the balance magic crave. 

His most beloved treasure, his beautiful bride, was gone. 

In order to destroy the darkest powers, magic had taken the brightest light, the Goddess of Life, away.

Blind with grief and fury, Malek rioted and screamed, but there was no way to make the spell undone. His bride was lost, reduced to nothing but a mortal soul. Damned to endlessly wander the lands of the humans, she would never be commended to him, never to return to his side. 

The God of Death, lost in his grief, pleaded with the magic, his Queen, even with fate herself, and they offered him a deal. If he wanted his beloved back, then he had to join her. He had to become a mortal soul as well. And only should they find each other despite their lost memories, only should she regain all of her lost powers despite not knowing what she’d lost, only if they accomplished the deed she was sacrificed for without treachery… only then would Malek and his Bride be able to return to their Palace.

Her second signet is light. Let me explain.

Let’s start with her first signet, back in Fourth Wing. In Chapter 22, Tairn channels to Violet for the first time. Violet describes it as a “rush of energy” that races down her spine. Then she says “Another wave ripples through me…” and continues “Something within me expands, somehow too big for my own body, too vast to be contained, and pain sears every nerve as I crack open, the sound reverberating through my skull like bones shattering. It’s as though I’ve been split at the very seams of the fabric of my being.” What’s important to note is that it comes in waves and it is painful. She then says “Energy pours in - a deluge of raw endless power…” She specifically describes it as “the energy - the power.” As continuing to course through her veins.

Fast forward to Iron Flame. Andarna wakes up from the Dreamless Sleep at the end of Chapter 37. I’m of the opinion that Violet’s second signet does not manifest until after Andarna awakes (sorry to anyone who thinks the hallucination of Liam [Ch. 35] or Rhiannon’s dagger move [Ch. 29] are a part of the second signet). Andarna is still a bit groggy when she wakes up, so she doesn’t start channeling to Violet right away. She starts channeling in Chapter 48 - you know - the “My house. My Chair. My woman.” chapter.

During this cataclysmic scene, Xaden gives Violet the conduit to hold - this is key, as I think it’s why Violet does not fully realize Andarna has started to channel. I think it starts when Violet says “With the next caress, pleasure and power crest through me, over me, in simultaneous waves that crash again and again. There’s no thunder, no strike, only the hum of energy in my hand that flares with the strokes of Xaden’s mouth and fingers.” Violet’s stream of consciousness continues that it does not end - “only the waves of infinite ecstasy that come without breaking.” She says out loud “I can’t take it” and says the waves come and come with no end in sight. She describes the “searing pleasure” that rips through her. After Xaden floods the bond, she says “I shatter, splintering into a million glittering shards of bliss as I scream out his name. Power and light course through me without burning…” and then says she feels her power crackle through the orb in her hand before settling.

The way Violet describes what she is feeling as endless waves and searing pleasure echoes the scene in Fourth Wing where Tairn starts channeling to her. It is the only spot in the book where she says that “power and light” course through her, and I think that indicates that her second signet is finally present. It’s important to note that in Chapter 40, Felix tells Violet that she “wields pure power that takes the form of lightning” because that is the form Violet is most comfortable shaping it as. I think her light signet will be similar—what she will wield is pure light, but it will take a certain form.

As Andarna reminds Violet in Chapter 53, “signets manifest according to the person wielding.” Violet is, in a metaphorical sense, light. I think her signet of power is associated with her rider heart, and her signet of light is associated with her scribe mind. Violet is outraged by being kept in the dark by her government—she wants the truth to be brought to light. This also applies to her relationship with Xaden—she constantly seeks truth, or light.

Violet is also going to need light to defeat the venin. In Chapter 53, Cat makes a comment to Violet that the fact that she doesn’t carry a torch with her says that Violet hasn’t been appropriately scared of the dark yet. At the beginning of Chapter 61, we get more context as to why Cat might be afraid of the dark—the chapter begins with a quote from Major Edvard Tiller’s Unaccredited Study of the Venin. “Though there is some debate, it is greatly believed that turning venin heightens one of the dark wielder’s senses. It is this scholar’s belief that the one responsible for the death of King Grethwild developed keener eyesight. For not even the best of His Majesty’s royal fliers could see through the darkness the venin hid within to slay our beloved king.” Violet will need light to expose the venin and then wield power in the form of lightning to defeat them.

Xaden becomes an ethical venin like the Cullen's are vampires
