Im haveing such a relizatuon these days, ive been dateing my partner off and on for 10 years and we have started takeing about getting married. I thought i was ok with the idea until i almost thought he was going to propose over Christmas and i panicked. And i thought about; why am i with someone who i might not want to get married too. Then it accured to me, hes one of the first people to meet my emotional needs. I do feel 90٪ safe around him and he loves me dearly. But why did it happen that when i thought he was going to propose i wasnt ready.? Is it the old meme "oop you showed me emotional support your stuck with me now"
Many years ago i met a pompous rennie magician who was trying to woo my room mate and in the process he gave me a signed playong card after the show. He did come to our apartment but left disappointed.
The irony was not missed when i accidentally picked it for a book mark for a vampre romance i am reading that starts at a goth fair with a cheesy and over the top fair owner who gives everyone the creeps.
what if we read each other's favourite books. as a date.
I sorda did this, i would start dateing a guy and id ask what his favorite book was and if i hadnt read it id go and borrow it (regular library user) and read or try to read it. Id definitely deduce a person character by what there favorite book was and how they defended or talked about the book.

I-I'm sorry but I can't stop thinking about this
My roommate just called from the kitchen to ask what was wrong because I laughed so hard I gave myself a coughing fit.
I'm so glad the music is what I thought it'd be.
THE BEBBE. *ded*
this post hasn't left my mind since i've first saw it
people jest but this is literally how i worked out i was gaslit for like 15 years of my life
People who “want trauma” are recognizing, on some level, that they were traumatized but in a way that’s not “socially recognized” as trauma. What they really want is for people to see that they’ve been traumatized and be on their side
Hold up
I think it’s also important to talk about mental illness, and how the pain and trauma of being mentally ill as a kid is often diminished because of the lack of outside actors. If you spent your childhood being suicidally depressed because your wee little kiddo brain decided to be a chemical shitshow, it doesn’t matter how much mom and dad loved you, that kinda thing fucks you up. And having people only look at your external surroundings and argue that “nothing bad happened” ignores all the pain you went through internally. So wishing you could have something external you could point to in order to justify that pain and enduring stress -- just so people could understand -- makes sense.
Posts that diagnose me, drag me, and rewire the synapses in my brain.
I’ve always felt that the reason kids who have been through trauma or most mental illnesses are attracted to darker themed media/books/etc.. It’s often the only place there is acknowledgment that things are not all right. even if it’s just fictional, it’s validation.
this week on tumblr slaps me in the face with things i didn’t know i needed to talk to my therapist about
I just barely skated past this step by being told by my family that my first three years had been spent in a not entirely stable (”sir, this asteroid is not entirely stable”) type of environment, and by my family getting me therapy at a very early age, so when I had trauma responses to things I knew that even if I didn’t remember something awful happening, it could be way way way back in the part of my childhood I didn’t remember.
Extra thing to be aware of:
One of quite literally the largest contributors to whether toxic stress - that is, either a moment of singular trauma or even many years of repeated traumas (small or large: tiny doses of arsenic over time will kill you too) - turns into a serious psychological injury (like PTSD or other traumatic disorders) is the validation and support of those who are around and emotionally critical to you.
It's not the only thing. Sometimes you can have everyone external do everything right and the internal fucks you up anyway. But external denial, dismissal, and so on, will always make it worse.
This issue can express itself in all kinds of ways, because humans are very complex (for instance, SOME kids who have been through mental illness and trauma gravitate towards darker stuff, for exactly the reason above; some do not, and gravitate heavily towards stuff that avoids the darkness, for their own reasons; both of these are valid/normal/expected/sensical-in-their-context reactions).
But if you find yourself in that weird, unhappy place where your most comforting fantasies are, for instance, "I got hit by a car and ended up in the hospital", this is diagnostic: this means that somehow, some part of you - even though you cognitively know that being hospitalized, or dying of cancer, or whatever, would absolutely suck - is both hurt and invalidated bad enough that it would trade what it's going through now for physical pain, just to be seen.
What that usually means is that it's time to actually figure out how that part of you is hurting, and why, and how you can fix that, because insisting it SHOULDN'T hurt and so you're going to pretend it DOESN'T . . . won't do that. It just means it'll still be there, probably getting worse.
(And if your brain is going "but I DID have a happy and loving family and nothing bad DID happen to me" etc then here are a few more things to hold onto:
Mental illness doesn't need an external reason. You can literally have the best external life possible and the fact that you have a physiologically fucked up brain will kill you just as fast as cancer will, and will hurt you just as much as being born with a skeletal difference.
We've spent literally most of our existence as a species not actually understanding how our brains work, and what causes harm to children. Your upbringing can absolutely have been genuinely loving, by parents who were doing the absolute best they knew how to do, and that still might have involved shit that is objectively harmful/known to lead to Problems later on. Once upon a time people genuinely thought the best thing to do for a fever was to remove blood from the body. We learned differently. That something about how you were raised fucked you up doesn't mean your parents didn't love you, or try their best.
"Childhood bullying" is a term we use so that we don't have to call it what it is: harassment (verbal, physical, and even sexual), ostracization, manipulation, assault and in the worst cases torture, which the adults around you failed to intervene in or prevent. All of these things are known and acknowledged, in adults, to be significant causes of psychological harm and injury. They're just as likely to cause that in children; we work really hard, in the words we use, to avoid having to face that.)
If you've ever had to sit through a corporate siminar on how to fill out forms and spreadsheets correctly and thought "This is unnecessary and a waste of time," I want you to know that I currently work at a place that never does any of this stuff and oh dear God I fucking wish they would, this is a nightmare
Seemingly unnecessary or redundant warnings, disclaimers, and seminars are always written in blood and tears; if it's written down it's because someone at some point was dumb enough to need it spelled out.
I'm surrounded by men with PhDs who are old enough to be my dad and half of them can't put their fucking name in the cell that says "NAME"
One of the customers for the IT company I work for has a department of engineers that need to submit these reports to their supervisors weekly. Due to the (dumb) application they use to do this, the forms won’t go through if the engineers don’t include their name, the date of submission, and other simple details. Guess how many times we get calls Friday morning from distraught engineers who, after years of doing this, still forget to write their name and instead assume there’s a server issue.
It's always the fucking engineers innit
fucking hate it when the stuff everybody says "actually works" does actually work.
hate exercising and realizing i've let go of a lot of anxiety and anger because i've overturned my fight-or-flight response.
hate eating right and eating enough and eating 3 times a day and realizing i'm less anxious and i have more energy
hate journaling in my stupid notebook with my stupid bic ballpoint and realizing that i've actually started healing about something once i'm able to externalize it
hate forgiving myself hate complimenting myself more often hate treating myself with kindness hate taking a gratitude inventory hate having patience hate talking to myself gently
hate turning my little face up to the sun and taking deep breaths and looking at nature and grounding myself and realizing that i feel less burdened and more hopeful, more actually-here, that i am able to see the good sides of myself more clearly, that i am able to see not only how far i have to grow - but also how much growth i have already done & how much of my life i truly fill with light and laughter and love
horrible horrible horrible. hate it but i'm gonna do it tho

POSTING THIS AGAIN!!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!
In the town where I grew up, there was a large statue in one of the parks, of a famous historical white colonizer. I'm not going to say who specifically, suffice it to say that it was someone who wasn't worth memorializing for their deeds. And as you can imagine, this statue was a frequent target of vandalism, with paint or toilet paper or eggs on multiple occasions. Now, the local council was generally pretty lax when it came to repairing potholes or other public damage in the town, but every time, 24 hours after this particular statue was hit, the same person would always appear in a Hi-Vis vest, hat, mask and sunglasses, carrying a bucket of water, and wash it clean. They would do it as quickly as possible, but always made sure the face and the name carved at the bottom were generously scrubbed. This only encouraged people to do it again, and so it became a vicious cycle.
Within a year, the statue had sustained so much damage that it was unrecognizable and the lettering unreadable, so eventually the council came and took it down. Also apparently, the person in the Hi-Vis vest didn't even work for the council. They were supposedly just some 'good samaritan' who cleaned it, often before the council even discovered it needed cleaning, so they just let them do it and ignored the problem. They didn't bother putting the statue up again.
Much later, we found out that the anonymous 'samaritan' had been deliberately washing the statue with a bucket of saltwater, which had dramatically corroded it, causing irreversible accumulative damage far worse than spray paint ever would have done. It's even theorized that they were also often the one spray-painting it, just so that they had an excuse to come back after a day to wash it.

Ok, so teens give me so much anxiety. Like i know they are a bundle of hormones and nerves that want a way out. they dont know yet what behavior is acceptable or not. In public service (my job) i have had to stop teenagers from f9ck8ng, fighting, wrestling and doing parkor on the job in my library. I get it there brains are screaming for them to act out and they dont know how to pull it in and control it but dam.
