One thing that might be interesting to note is that in 2007 the voter turnout was 95%, compared with countries such as the US where voter turnout has historically always been around 50% - if the US is really more democratic than Cuba, then why do so few people bother to vote? literally ok so not a funny story but kind of funny? when I was nine I encountered rape in a book and I was like hey mom what’s this mean and she explained it and I was like oh. gross. and then like two weeks later a girl on the bus abruptly disclosed her csa and we were all like ????? what ???? but I was like wait hang on there’s a word for that ☝️🤓 and explained what it meant and that it was illegal and that you could talk to a teacher or my mom if it had happened to you and everyone was like ohhhhh I see I see and very somberly comforted the girl (she was safe she was removed from her home and living with my neighbor at the time so it wasn’t Urgent)

My reasoning for wanting to quit below the cut:
The store is a mess literally all the time, the sales floor is usually cluttered to some degree while the break room and backrooms look like a bomb went off inside.
There’s only one bathroom for employees (they had to close off the customer bathrooms due to excessive shoplifting) and there’s only one key to the bathroom that regular employees are allowed to use (managers and key-holders have their own copies, because of course they do). This system just sucks in my opinion.
There’s no door to the break room. Customers can deadass just walk past and see some underpaid shmuck crying over their microwaved burrito at any point, unless of course there’s a metric fuckton of boxes in the way, which seems fairly common so far.
There’s no intercom system and no walkie talkies. If something happens, I have to scream at the top of my lungs for the manager, or drop everything to go lookin for them, unless I want to try calling their number and risking getting in trouble for using my phone on the job.
They are aggressively anti-union. One of the training videos was straight up anti-union propaganda, and it only took a quick search online to find evidence of DG’s union busting efforts, some of which have been illegal.
There’s only one computer we can clock in on, and it’s the same computer we use for transactions, so you’re having to wait until the current transaction is done and/or make the next customer wait until you’re clocked in before they can get checked out. It’s awkward and just annoying as hell.
Apparently they’re deadass on OSHA’s naughty list of companies that are frequent offenders. Yikes.
We’re supposed to talk and be social with customers, and my introverted ass doesn’t want to do that all the time, especially not for such dogshit wages. Honestly it just seems like a very extroverted job, and I can already feel the burnout setting in.
One of my coworkers is a teenager working 3 jobs, which is in and of itself a red flag in my opinion.
Looking online, all I can find is how terrible a company DG is to work for and how scummy their business practices are.
Honestly I can probably think of more, but I don’t feel like it right now.
Here’s the very few pros I can think of:
The bar is so fucking low, my manager deadass said she doesn’t care if I show up to work high as long as I’m not actively hitting a dab pen in the store or parking lot where someone could be a Karen about it. She literally said I can hit a dab pen on the clock so long as I do it hidden behind the store’s dumpster. Not planning on doing that, but it just goes to show how little they give a fuck.
The manager and key holder said they’re willing to accommodate me however possible because most of their employees are teenagers at the moment (which also feels like a red flag ngl) and they’re desperate to retain a functioning adult somehow.
I’m making about $12 an hour, which isn’t great where I live (definitely not enough to support oneself but I still live with my parents so that’s not a problem for me), but it’s better than nothing.
Hope y’all don’t mind the unusual post, I just want some other opinions on the matter.

Putting my IHNMAIMS oc, Metradora-1 (or M-1 for short) into the Digital Circus because I can. A couple notes on her in this AU:
She’s a medical android (hence the cartoon doctor avatar) who entered the circus by plugging herself into the computer the circus is on, and can leave at any time. Or, she can upload a digital copy of her software to stay in the computer while the original her is free to do as she pleases, just like the humans, except the digital copy can use the WiFi to send the original her data about what’s happening in the Digital Circus.
She retained all her memories including her name; her software blocked Caine from altering her memory files. Caine doesn’t know how to feel about that.
Speaking of Caine, he finds her both fascinating and intimidating, which is totally understandable.
Her skills mostly pertain to human biology, but she’s got some understanding of psychology as well, and she’ll try and figure out what’s wrong with all the humans.
Has little interest in the adventures, but will participate to observe how the humans react to them.
Might crash out at Caine if she finds out how much stress he’s been causing the humans.
Will momentarily freeze up upon seeing an abstracted human for the first time, because it’s essentially a disease she knows nothing about, causing her to lag while trying to form a diagnosis. I wonder how aliens will react to our communal grooming instinct? Like when you see something stuck to your homie’s clothes/skin/hair and it’s driving you nuts and you just gotta be like “hold still, lemme get that for you real quick.”
One time when I was a kid, I had a science teacher with a snake as a class pet, and said snake was almost done shedding. There was one little bit of dried skin stuck to its face and I was like, “would it hurt him if I pulled that off?” And the teacher said, “yes it actually could, it’s probably still attached to living skin if it hasn’t come off yet” and I was like “oh, sorry,” and he said, “that’s okay, you were just wanting to do the primate thing.” And damn, that’s such an accurate descriptor.
Anyways I hope aliens don’t mind me/my descendants having the urge to pluck stuff off of them. If they ask, we’ll have to tell them it’s a trait we evolved to survive ticks.
Sometimes you might feel the urge to help someone in a certain way, and sometimes they really don't want to be helped in that way, either because it would not help them (or even hurt them) or because they would rather do it themselves (for various reasons).
It's important to realize that sometimes you're going to be a primate and they're going to be a snake, and it needs to be okay if they do not want their skin pulled off at this time.
Snake shed info is mostly not true - it varies but small flakes are usually long disconnected and just stuck by dryness the same way human sunburn does - you can pick it off by grabbing and just letting the snake move by itself. Mostly you should only do it if they don't shed it themselves for a while cause it usually get rubbed off after a bit.
That makes sense, I guess the teacher was just concerned because I was a kid who wasn’t used to working with reptiles and this snake had just recently gotten done shedding, so he wanted to wait a bit before trying to remove any remaining pieces. That’s good to know though, I’m planning on having a pet snake someday and it’s nice to know I’ll get to do the primate thing as long as I’m careful!
