This year I’ve decided to make an F1 blanket inspired by this one by @mysteriouslyjovialcolor last year
How it’ll work
- Each square is a driver with the main colour representing the team and the diagonal stripe representing their camera colour
- Team colours are mostly attempting to match what F1TV uses on the driver surnames with some adjustments for added contrast between teams (there are too many blue teams)
- I’ve swapped the neon yellow to white for aesthetics and yarn colour availability.
- Each column is a race classification with 1st at the top
-I’m planning 24 columns since I’ll be skipping the sprints.
- DNFs, DNSs, and DSQs are indicated by 1, 2, or 3, grey bars across the square
- I’m using Tunisian crochet modified or flat simple stitch with DK yarn and a 5.5mm hook
- Colour changes are done using intarsia style rather than carry-overs
- Columns will be worked onto the previous one rather than pieced at the end because I hate sewing
Race 1 complete!
Race 2: China
Almost forgot to post this one before I need to start the next
Was able to get an early start on it while the race was still happening with all those DNS's
Race 3: Japan
Went on holiday so this one was a bit delayed but I guess that’s one positive of the extra long break.
Trying a new way of dealing with all the ends so they don’t drive me completely mad.
Race 4: Bahrain.
l decided, in order to maintain the size of the blanket and the authenticity of the season, I had to represent the missed races. So here is round 4..
Race 5: Saudi Arabia
Another sad greyed out column. It helped with my yarn math though, I should need around 3 skeins per team colour.
Race 6: Miami
Wooo! We’re back!
It’s starting to look like a blanket and not a freakishly long scarf
And now another few weeks to wait.
Race 7: Canada
Crazy race that has put us back to season starter DNF numbers
Race 8: Monaco
Only Fernano’s third race finish this season (lance has only finished 2). Was lucky I didn’t have to rip this one out after the results change because I was away. Hopefully I don’t have to arrange any fixes due to any other appeals.
Race 9: Barcelona
Almost time to get a second ball of each colour.
Race 10: Austria
Just finished this and I head to Silverstone in the morning.
Race 11: Britain
What a wild weekend! As a fan of chaos the ending of that race was 🧑🍳😘. Rough one for all of my top three drivers but I got to tour the f1 academy paddock and meet and chat to Esmee Kosterman which was awesome!
