“We need discipline or none of this works!” Enjolras shot back.

Grantaire opened his mouth to say something else, but Combeferre returned, his cool energy somehow dousing the fire that had erupted between them. “Luckily, nothing else happened,” he said pointedly. “Let’s take the win for today. We can include the need for discipline when we summarize to our mass members.”

“Goddamn, you’re speaking some alien language,” Grantaire groaned theatrically, swiping a hand over his face. “I need a cigarette.” He stalked off, already jamming his hand down into his pocket to retrieve the box.

Enjolras and Combeferre both watched him go to the other side of the group, finding Jehan.

“You’re safe,” Combeferre continued after a moment. “And no one got arrested. That’s all that matters for now.”

Enjolras wanted to argue, but he knew Combeferre was right. (Combeferre was always right).
