Shuji Hanma x Fem!Reader + Nurse!Reader
Warnings-Fluff, Angst, Blood, Gore, Shuji calling you 'pet'
A.N:- (Valentine's day special, early release!) I guess I'm into criminals now. Also, I hope this makes y'all cry, for all the people who are in the mood for angst. ILY guys. Stay angst, stay hydrated. Also, I changed a few things from the Toman-Valhalla fight cause I needed to fit the reader in all this. Sorry, not sorry!
"I love you", you said. You giggled, looking at your reflection in the mirror. You wondered how he would react. The relationship you two shared was romantic- just you hadn't confessed yet. Nor had he, for that matter, But you both knew that you loved each other from your actions. You had been rehearsing for days, but you couldn't seem to muster up the courage to just tell him. So you kept rehearsing, looking at yourself in the mirror, repeating the same three words.
Him, gently caressing your face.
Him, always buying you gifts and looking at you with a love so deep, you wondered if it would ever end. You didn't want it to.
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love-
You snapped out of your trance, suddenly aware of the people staring at you as you zoned out. You realized that you had forgotten to close your door properly- a slight wind and the door widened, revealing you staring at the mirror with a soft blush dusting your cheeks and a smile gracing your lips as you stared at the mirror.
That was the effect he had on you. That was how he drove your mind crazy, with his sharp eyes and his charming but poisonous smile. You were the only known survivor of that dangerous smile. That was just the kind of man he was.
That was just the kind of man Shuji Hanma was.
You took in a deep breath, smoothed your shirt, and walked out of your room. Your head was held high, your posture emanating confidence. You were determined to tell him today, and you wouldn't fail at any cost.
You walked out of your house, twisting the necklace he gave you around your finger nervously. You wondered if he would remember- it was the day the two of you first met, one year ago. It feels weird to think how time flew by so quickly. The only memories you had of the year were your time spent together with him. It was nice-he was the only person you were close with besides your family.
You climbed the rounded peak of the short hill, eagerly looking around until you spotted a familiar figure under the cherry tree you had planted when you were young. It had been ages since then- the tree had seen you grow up, face many difficulties, and finally find a person you were willing to spend the rest of your life with. It swayed, as if showing you how happy it felt for you, matching the way your heart thumped in your chest at the sight of him.
Him, covered in soft pink petals.
Him, not noticing you yet, tightly gripping a long velvet-covered box.
You started walking slowly now, each placement of your foot measured so as to not make a noise. Suddenly, you lunged at him, falling flat on your face as you landed on the soft grass. You looked up, only to see him smirking at you, his long earrings still swaying with the sudden movement of dodging you he just made.
"Still can't beat these ears, baby", he pointed at his ears, earning a short slap on his leg from you.
"Aww, it's okay, I won't tease ya for not having skill", Shuji chuckles. You yelp as you feel two strong hands on your waist, the wind suddenly blowing under your feet, as he picks you up easily and places you on his lap.
You lean against his chest, breathing in his strong scent and looking at the city below. You absentmindedly hook an arm around his neck and card your fingers through his hair, marveling at the softness of it. 'It has been a while since I last saw him like this', you thought.
Suddenly, you feel his strong arms grip your jaw as gently as possible, as he turns your face towards his. You feel his lips on yours before you even see him, as if you knew it was coming. You slowly melt into the kiss, letting him explore your warm mouth with his tongue. 'It has been a while', you thought, 'since I felt so happy and content and... me.'
He pulls back after a while, slowly bringing out the box from behind him. He urges you to take it, a grin spreading across his face.
"It's... Is it... For me?", you ask nervously.
He nods, slowly guiding your fingers to the clasp of the box. You slowly open the box, your eyes widening at the thing inside. It was a metal bodied vintage pen, glimmering and glinting in the sunlight. You gasped. Of course, he knew you loved vintage things! You had an entire collection back at your home.
You giggle and hug him tightly, not wanting to let go.
"Okay, okay...", he drawls. "Are you tryna choke me, darling?"
You chuckle and pull back, whispering in his ear.
"I've got something as well", you say. "I -"
You get abruptly cut off by a loud ringing noise. Shuji groans, taking his phone out of his pocket. He groans even louder when he sees the name.
"Sorry, pet, have to take this one..."
He swipes the screen, putting the phone to his ears while still holding your hand. You wait, patient, as he answers with a "What's up?", stays silent for a few seconds, then his eyes widen.
"What? And you didn't even tell me? Aw, Shucks... Yeah, be there in 5."
You roll your eyes as he cut the call.
"Let me guess. Another gang fight?"
"Another gang fight it is, pet."
You get up from his lap, smoothing your dress.
"Get the bike, I'll be there in a minute", you say.
You run to your house, trying to making yourself look presentable to the other gang members. You hurriedly grab your first aid kit on the way out, bidding your mother goodbye.
"I'll be back by dinnertime, mom!", you yell, slipping your feet into your sneakers.
"Stay safe, [deleted]!", she yells back.
You run out the house to where Shuji is, waiting with his bike, a cigarette between his fingers. He puts it to his mouth, takes a deep drag, and holds it in his mouth for a few seconds. He lets it out, the smoke coming out in a cloud shape. He drops the cigarette and crushes the stub under his foot and gets on the bike, grinning at you.
"There you are, I was wondering where you'd gone"
"Sorry", you say, getting on behind him. He smirks back at you, his carefully styled hair gently swaying with the wind.
You arrive at the spot of the fight 5 minutes later, being greeted by a mass of Valhalla and Toman members alike. You rush to the Valhalla members, first-aid kit in hand, while Shuji parks his bike and eagerly runs to join the fight. You bend down in front of a member whose name you didn't know, snapping open your kit. You snap on your gloves and take out an antiseptic liquid and a swab of cotton, carefully getting the things ready.
"This is gonna sting", you warn the poor guy.
He looks at you, a smirk still on his face despite his injuries.
"It's 'kay, miss, I've been through worse"
You nod at him reassuringly, then start cleaning his wounds. You grimace at his injuries, your head filled with the metallic, sharp smell of blood. He winces as you clean the source of the blood, but stays shut. You apply an ointment to the wound, bandage it, then go to the next person.
This process keeps repeating, and you finally reach the last fallen members. Thank god that the people didn't hang around the fallen except for the fallen themselves, or your job would have been much harder.
You take care of the last member and wipe the sweat from your forehead and look up at the giant heap of metal, on top of which you spot the Toman leader, Manjiro Sano, getting beat up by Hanemiya. You wince as he takes a punch to his stomach and says nothing. Feeling bad for the poor guy, you decide to step up and stop Hanemiya. After all, Mikey's around the same age as the others, and has his own limits as well. Your habits kick in, and you rush to the small group on the metal heap, when you feel that something's off. You turn around, but it was already too late. You feel the cold serrated edge of a knife dig into your back.
You gasp and cough out blood, too shocked to register anything. You spot long black hair, and a smirk on your attacker's face.
"Never bring a knife to a gun fight", he says.
You touch the spot where he stabbed you and bring it to your face, staring, disbelieving, at the blood coating your palm.
"And never remove your focus from the enemy's hands", you manage to cough out, before hitting him with your first aid kit, hard, in the groin. Funny how a thing used for removing pain can also be used to cause it. He yells, sinking to his knees, before turning his attention back to you, the knife still protruding from your back.
"You fucking woman!", he yells at you. A grin adorns your face, before you fall on your side, your back facing him. Big mistake. He raises his fist and slams it on the hilt of the knife, sending the blade deeper into your body. You gasp and cough out more blood, groaning. What a nice way to spend your anniversary, getting stabbed in the back in the middle of a gang fight. He gets up and stands over you, his legs trapping you in place. He leans down and grabs hold of your neck, choking you. You open your mouth wide, trying to get as much air as you can. Your vision becomes, blurry, black spots swimming in your vision, then-
The man gets kicked of your body, and you gasp for oxygen. You try to see who saved you, and you're immediately met with the sight of Shuji kicking the man's already hurt crotch, his earrings dangling.
"Dont." Kick. "You." Kick. "Fucking." Kick. "Touch." Kick. "What's." Kick. "Mine." Kick.
You chuckle, though the sound comes out more as a wheeze. Shuji gives the man one last punch to his jaw before turning to face you, his face stained with blood you doubted was his. He runs to you, every part of his face etched with concern and worry.
"Oh, god. Come on, [deleted], stay with me. Come on, come on..."
He gently cups your face, slapping your cheek lightly.
"It's alright, you're gonna be fine... we'll take you to the hospital, and they're gonna fix you up, huh? You'll be fine in no time at all. Come on, pet, don't do this..."
You struggle to stay awake, and notice a drop of water on your cheek. You wheeze out a laugh, the sound paining your chest.
He wipes a tear from his face.
"No, you idiot... I'm crying for you..."
You smile. The concept of Shuji Hanma having the capability to cry was unknown to you. Yet, here you were. He loops his arms around your body and lifts you, hugging you tightly.
"Don't do this to me. Don't leave me..."
You cup his face in your hand, your arm straining from the effort. You manage to smile at him, and wipe away his tears.
"Shuji...", you call him gently, slowly, as if trying to spell his name for the first time. He grips you tighter.
You gaze into his eyes, taking in the hues and trying to memorize them, as if it's the last time you'll ever see him, which it is.
"_______________________"
He sucks in a breath as you close your eyes, slapping your face, harder this time.
"No, no, no... [deleted], don't do this. Come on, [deleted], don't do this. This can't be happening right now... Come on, don't do this!", he yells at you, your body limp in his arms. He knows it's no use, that you're already gone, but he can't help it. Not when today is such an important day for the two of you. Not when he remembers all the memories he had with you were anything but sad and unhappy.
Not when you were the only ray of sunlight in his damp, dark soul.
Not when you were the only thing anchoring him to the world.
Not when you were the only thing keeping him sane.
So he yells, yells like his life depends on it, at the near-dead person who stabbed you, at the knife which was used to stab you, at god, and most of all, at himself for being careless enough to not notice that someone had a knife. At himself for being so careless.
Because now, you were gone, and he could do nothing to stop it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Twelve years later, he decides that it's finally time to let you go. He pushes back his round glasses on his nose, his normally well-kept long black hair with yellow streaks now falling loosely on his face. he plays with his earring a little, his slender fingers twirling around the metal. He grabs everything he had related to you, the files, the cards, and all the little gifts you gave him. He tosses them all into the fire, the flame burning everything up merrily in a matter of seconds.
'No one', he decides, 'will know of you or anything about you'. He would not allow your memory to be used as a weakness against him. He had taken care of your family too- their bodies laid in a heap in the building behind him you once called home.
He carefully takes out the last thing he has of you- a photo the two of you took together, with your name written in pencil in the back. He turns the picture around.
He smiles, a soft, pained expression, and puts the photo in his shirt's breast pocket. This one thing, he would keep close to his heart, and cherish it forever.
He takes out his phone and glances at the date. It was thirteen years from the day you two first met. He sighs at the bitter memory of what happened twelve years ago, your last words etched into his memory.
He gets up and walks away from the fire, the house, and your past, replaying what you last said to him in his mind over and over again.
"I love you, Shuji Hanma."
