when you catch them cuddling your shirt after an argument ♡
featuring ᥫ᭡ sae, rin, isagi
sae's temper always seemed to worsen whenever he travelled.
he was in a sour mood after a series of bad games, delayed flights, and shitty airplane food, grumbling an angry, "stop fucking bothering me." when you asked him if he wanted to talk about it.
he didn't say much when you stormed off to sleep on the couch that night, only muttering a low, "whatever. goodnight." as he watched you grab a spare blanket from the closet.
the empty space beside him felt like it weighed tons even though nothing was there. why hadn't he gotten used to sleeping alone? that's how it had always been in spain, only this time, you were a mere room away.
it was past midnight now. with the little energy he had left, he forced himself off the bed in search for something to help him sleep. a red hard rock cafe sweater caught his eye. your red hard rock cafe sweater.
it sat on your desk neatly folded, unwashed and untouched. he crawled into bed with it, holding it close to his chest. he closed his eyes and let his imagination steer, pretending it was you instead of the bundle of fabric in his arms.
sae was so deep in thought that he hadn't even registered the sound of the door creaking. "have you seen my—oh.."
his eyelids flew open. "oh. hi.." this is so embarassing. he locked eyes with your puzzled gaze, holding up the sweater. "found it."
"sae.. do you want me to come back to bed?" you watched as he tucked himself into the sheets with his back facing you, grumbling a barely audible, "if you want."
the mattress dipped, and a moment later your arms wrapped around his chest. he turned toward you before engulfing you into a warm, trembling embrace.
"i'm sorry." he whispered, the words catching in his throat. "i made a mistake.. i was tired. frustrated. but that's no excuse."
his chin rested on your head as he took in a deep, shaky breath. "please don't pull away from me." sae's arms were locked around you so impossibly tight. he was afraid you'd slip out of his grasp if he didn't. "i won't, sae."
just like that, the fight you had earlier dissolved into nothing but quiet apologies, reassurance, and the warmth of holding each other again.
he buried his nose in your scalp, letting the all too familiar scent of your shampoo lull him to sleep. "i love you, amor."
rin had lost count of how many sheep he'd counted. fuck them, and fuck him. it was all his fault that you left the house. he should have been more present.
the scene of you slamming the front door shut and yelling, "i hope you win tomorrow. since that's all you fuckin' care about." replayed in his mind over and over again like a mantra.
your hoodie proved to be the hero tonight. he had ransacked your entire wardrobe to retrieve it, but it didn't matter. you were already mad at him anyway.
rin's mind wandered to where you might've been. whether you were safe. whether you were still mad at him. "shit. she's still not answering." his thumb hovered over the call button, but there was no point. there were already eight missed calls.
he buried his face into the soft fabric, letting himself get high off your scent before drifting off to sleep to the thought of you. it felt like you were there with him. even if you weren't really there, this was good enough for now.
you walked back into your bedroom to find rin curled up in a fetal position. all the pillows and blankets had been discarded onto the floor, leaving only your hoodie and his sleeping figure on the mattress.
"rin. rinnie.. wake up, baby." you gently carressed his cheek, and to your surprise, it was damp to the touch. rin had been crying.
he stirred awake almost immediately, sitting up in bed to grab your hands as if they were the only thing anchoring him. "i-i'm sorry. i'm sorry.." he whispered, breath hot against your hands as his voice cracked.
rin was usually so composed, yet here you were seeing him unravel in front of you. completely vulnerable. nothing but raw emotion and guilt. "rinnie.."
you climbed into bed and scooped his limp figure into your arms. "i'm not going anywhere anymore." you murmured, gently raking your fingers through his hair. "i forgive you."
"i won't do it again. you're the most important thing in my life." he sniffled. the tremors in his muscles eased with each breath he took, and for the first time that night, he could breathe again. "i can't lose you."
isagi's only flaw was his ill temper. that, and his bad habit of taking it out on the people he loved most. this afternoon was no exception.
"just shut the fuck up, you're not helping!" the words rang sharp in the air. he didn't even realise what he said until you stepped away from him, tears running down your face as you pointed toward the bedroom door. "get out."
and so he did. the couch wasn't the most comfortable place on earth, but he had bigger fish to fry. he was grumpy all evening as he processed his thoughts and worked on compartmentalising his feelings.
meanwhile, you were only leaving the room in desperate situations. to take a piss. get a snack. water to survive. the whole nine yards.
isagi knew you'd be okay again, but god, were the hours apart from you driving him to the brink of insanity. the clock struck midnight and you showed no signs of wanting to talk it out yet.
he settled with a hello-kitty shirt of yours that he'd dug up from the dirty pile of laundry. disgusting, i know, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
he pulled it close, letting your familiar scent ground him as he curled up into a ball and buried himself into the cushions. his shoulders shook, breath hitching as quiet sobs filled the awfully silent atmosphere.
when you padded into the living room for a glass of water, you nearly gasped. there he was—curled up on the couch with your shirt clutched tight to his chest.
"yoichi.. are you.." your voice cut through the air like a blade. his head snapped up, eyes red with a mixture of sorrow and embarrassment. "i-i'm.. i'm sorry."
"i just.. get so mad at myself—and.. at other things.." you slipped beside him, prying the wrinkled shirt from his hands before replacing it with yourself. "i took it out on you, and that's the one thing i swore i'd never do."
"y'so stupid, 'ichi." you muttered, making him melt from the nickname alone. you ruffled his already messy hair as he choked out a broken laugh. "i love you. i love you so much and i miss you."
you let him cry on your shoulder, listening to him mumble raspy, i'm sorry's and i love you's as his arms wrapped around you like a blanket. it felt wrong to think about at the time, but sad yoichi was undeniably adorable.
