whats my favourite weapon in far cry 5 you may ask?
i wholly was not expecting this and i am actually crying
Redesigned my ottsona~
You know, as gun rights advocates we’ve really got to stop entertaining the argument that the US has a high gun crime rate compared to “other countries”
It’s flat out not an accurate comparison, because while the US’s aggregate gun death rate might be higher than those nation’s, America is fundamentally different in that we are a country comprised of dozens and dozens of states, and counties within those states, that function as their own little countries.
If I compared the gun death rate of Kennesaw, GA to one of these “developed countries”, even adjusting for population, it would always come out on top even though Kennesaw GA requires every citizen to own a pistol and keep ammunition in the house.
Over 50 percent of murders occur in 2 percent of the nation’s 3,142 counties. Moreover, gun-related homicides are heavily concentrated in certain neighborhoods within those counties: 54 percent of U.S. counties had zero murders in 2014.
It’s time to cut the bullshit.
Plus, doesn’t America have a shit ton more people than other countries so that would also explain the differences?
Population density plays a huge roll, absolutely.
In cities with populations over 200,000, the majority of crime, suicides, and specifically gun deaths (both suicides and crime related) occur at rates far exceeding the majority of the country.
The US has well over 150 of such cities, while most of the countries it’s compared have a much, much smaller number of them.
And that’s mostly because denser populations lead to more organized crime. 80-90% of all gun violence in any given year on record is gang-related. But ongoing gang violence that’s been happening for decades and nobody really does anything to stop makes for a terrible news story, so the tiny minority of murderers that work independently get a disproportionate amount of screen time.
So while the U.S. does have more major cities than other countries, it’s overall population density is significantly lower. Since these comparisons are of rates and not of total numbers of deaths, you should actually expect the rate of gun deaths in the U.S. to be lower than say France or England given that their overall population density is much higher, all else being equal. This is true even with some of our more densely populated states (the U.S. nearly everywhere has a lower average population density than most western European countries).
Also, while population density does generate higher levels of interaction (including hostile interactions), population density by itself doesn’t explain the formation of Gangs. They probably have a more socioeconomic and policy related explanation (there are lots of poor disaffected people in cities and the war on drugs creats lots of opportunities for gangs to form and operate). Similar issue with suicides: why would population density increase the rate of suicides? Obviously if there were more people in an area the raw number of them will go up, but it doesn’t explain why there would be more or less of them on average.
Regarding your first point, re-read the OP and you’ll see that you’re just re-iterating it by pointing out that the majority of America is rural, and relatively low crime even compared to European countries, and a tiny handful of counties - not even whole states, but just counties in those states - have disproportionately high crime rates that skew the overall crime rate.
Suicides increase dramatically in high-density metropolitan areas m, exponentially so, because rates of drepression also skyrocket in these places - and 60% of all gun death stats are suicides. That’s why density and context matters.

That awkward moment when you arrive to participate in the Democratic Presidential Debate and all the other candidates are wearing the same outfit.
No shame.

Shame her from office!
Lmao
So this happened! Look I’m gay. And I eat at chick-fil-a.
The owner donates to Christian organizations. We know some of those organizations are not LGBTQ friendly or even anti LGBTQ.
My problem is my city council didn’t need to give a reason to not put them in the airport. They didn’t need to make public, again, donations from two years ago. We know what chick-fil-a is about.
But they are not a company that gives off a message of hate. That’s my opinion. If I remember correctly they helped during The Pulse shooting. Providing food and drinks for those donating blood.
The company is ran by a Christian man who has his beliefs and has his business closed on Sundays. While I don’t agree with his beliefs he’s allowed to have them like I am mine. But to me the restaurant has never been a symbol of hate or discrimination.
I’m curious what some of y’all think. Everyone in the comments on my local news post is kinda down the middle. What do you think?
I’m mainly curious as to what groups they are labeling anti-LGBT. I’ll form an opinion once I do some googling and see what’s up.
Could be places that support practices like conversion therapy or like Salvation Army which tends to be pretty hostile to LGBT people, but just labeling every christian organization as anti lgbt is prett disingenuous
or every organization that advocates for a “traditional” family structure.
disapproval isn’t hatred.

ok… wig
Scientists invented fabric that makes electricity from motion and sunlight. To create the fabric, researchers at Georgia Tech wove together solar cell fibers with materials that generate power from movement. It could be used in “tents, curtains, or wearable garments,” meaning we’d virtually never be without power. Source
Y'all are fucking idiots. Clean energy will NEVER be enough to replace the energy we have now. We’d have to tear down DOZENS of forests just to fit enough windmills and solar panels to get even a QUARTER (probably less, tbh) of the energy we can produce now.
Yeah, sure, when they’ve already calculated that a few square miles of panels in the empty ass Arizona desert could power the whole nation. But ok, fracking and the diminishing petroleum supply is worlds better.
Nevermind that windmills are often most efficient off the coast. There they take up no land, impact no trees, don’t pollute the water, and are conveniently located where winds are often strongest anyway.
And solar panels can literally be built into roofs of buildings and in empty areas like deserts. The sun strikes the Earth with the same amount of energy in an hour that our civilization uses in a year.
But yeah, it would be impossible for us to ever have enough energy from clean sources.
Durr hurr technology is bad and I would rather light shit on fire than have clean energy
I can also testify to the Arizona desert being empty ass. And the California desert. And the Nevada desert.
also…no forests were cleared to make space for Denmark’s windmills and yet they regularly produce so much power that it covers almost all of the country’s power needs. Oh, and then there’s the times when the windmills generate 140% of Denmark’s power needs. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jul/10/denmark-wind-windfarm-power-exceed-electricity-demand
Friendly reminder that oil pipelines are a scam.
The fact that anyone can believe a limited amount of dinosaur oil is more plentiful and efficient than moving air or fucking sunlight is proof that entire populations can be completely brainwashed.
And don’t forget wave and geothermal power.
The best place to install solar? Parking lots! Here’s the Community Mercantile in LFK:
Not only can it supply almost all the power needed for stores that build these, it also reduces ambient heating from the roasting pavement and keeps cars covered from the elements.
Everyone wins!
The ways we can produce sustainable, renewable energy grow by the year. There is zero reason to keep maintaining oil and natural gas industries!
only concern i find with clean energy is it’ll be a bitch and a half to keep up with maintenance because where i live we get hail alot, and solar panels will get destroyed.
And there is almost always a way to counter stuff like that. In the case of hail i would simply have a layer of plexiglass that is suspended like an inch above it.
In the case of regular snow i would argue that it would be a relatively simple feat of engineering to design a wiper to periodically clear it off into a gutter system. And perhaps have a defroster on the plexiglass (though that would eat into the power generation a bit.)
