And it was not, âone person left for work at 4 am, worked two jobs, returned home after 8pm entirely exhausted.â
No, it was âone person went to work at 8 or 9, came home at 5 or 6; ate food, paid bills, watched tv, celebrated birthdays with parties, and so on.â
And a couple-few times a year, they all went on a modest vacation, like a weekend visit to relatives in a nearby state and visited an amusement park while they were there. Also, in summer they went to the state fair - all 5 of them - maybe a couple of times. The went out to movies a couple times a month, but maybe not all 5 at once, because everyone wanted to see different movies.â
That wasnât the exotic âlivinâ the dreamâ lifestyle. That was the boring-humdrum what-everyone-does lifestyle.
(It was never âeveryone.â But it wasnât the rare 1%, either.) It was what showed up on all the tv sitcoms and drama shows because it was so common, you could use it as a backdrop without explaining anything.
when i start saying weird shit to you thats the equivalent of a cat exposing its tummy

A part of being an adult is living with regret and not allowing it to consume you. The older you get, the more mistakes youâve made, opportunities youâve missed, people youâve disappointed. And every day you have to remind yourself to be kind and forgiving of yourself. You accept and love the you from the past and understand that itâs all a part of the process. Then you move on and live your best life, knowing now as old as you feel today, youâll never be this young again.
Firefighter demonstrates how to put out a kitchen fire
Reblog to actually save a life
To explain. The latter works because youâre cutting off the supply of oxygen to the fire and suffocating it
as opposed to slapping oxygen inside the pan with the downward motion
Reblogging, because this is so important. When I was learning how to cook for myself in my tweens, I had at least a five years of fire safety seminars from school drilling this into my head, and I STILL had that instinctive put-the-fire-out-with-water reflex. Didnât even think. I saw our oily burner catch fire after frying eggs, whipped around towards the sink for water, and my brain immediately screamed NO!!! NO WATER! I mean that fire safety stuff straight up bitchslapped me out of REFLEXIVELY setting my house on fire. I found a pot lid and inched it over the burner before turning off the heat. Even if you think you know this stuff, panic is powerful shit. Make knowledge more powerful.
Cannot overstate how important this is. Baking soda also does a good trick, but this is still just so, so important!!
I wonder if that is really what is going on, or if something else is at work? âpushing more air down into itâ seems like it should only extend the life of the fire by a few seconds or so, or thatâs what I would guess.
my guess is when you slap down it doesnât make an air proof seal, you have hot air pushing up against the downward force.
