More of an appreciation post than a recommendations list but these are pieces of media that I love and made me who I am, and I don't see people discussing them that often. If you enjoy any of these come back and talk to me, we are now friends. NOT FOR KIDS.

The heart she holler: You know I like my horror weird as hell. You might think this is just gross, stupid, surreal and offensive, but what it really is is a portrait of America and how truly fucked up it is (especially the south). If you liked Kuso, this is better.

Them and Them The Scare: This is another critique of America, but much more focused on the racism. If the absolutely nightmarish visuals don't get you, the true to life horrors will. I learned a lot about history while being terrified. If you wanted to see the paranormal cop movie that Longlegs advertised and didn't deliver, watch this.

Boulet Brothers Dragula: Like Drag Race, but good. More focused on Horror and filth. More inclusive, more creative. This hole was made for me.

Freaked: You can tell this was made with love and soul. An undeniable cult classic that still doesn't get enough appreciation. Practical effects! Monster transformations! Stop motion! Totally unique and one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. In Mexico this was on TV all the time back then and I swear it did something to my brain.

When black birds fly: Jimmy Screamerclauz is a pioneer in western animated horror that is ACTUALLY fucked up. I enjoy all of his work but this one seems to have the most cohesive story and it's also really funny at times that will catch you off guard. Trippy, hellish visuals.

Wounds; 6 stories from the border of hell by Nathan Ballingrud: This is an anthology book and the stories are so varied that there's something for everyone. The last story has pirates, satanists and angels and the lore is just 10/10. But if you like something less complicated, the story about the captured imp is cute. Tons gore, tons of body horror, just the way I like it. If you're a Clive Barker fan this might work on you.

Pim and Francie, the golden Bear days by Al Columbia: An art book, with bits and pieces of sinister stories that are left unfinished so your imagination has to do the rest of the work. I found this combination of cute rubberhose characters in hellish scenarios extremely unsettling.

Through the Rye by Mr. Remoraman: A webcomic about a cursed children's TV show. The art might throw you off, but stick with it for the story. Gory and odd, it strikes me as the kind of thing you might have found in the early days of the internet. Punk as fuck.

The story must be told: The absolute irreverence of this podcast. The first episode really sets the tone so if you find it abhorrent you won't like the rest of it. So surreal it's hard to explain. Every episode is a different story, couched by a weird church ran by delightful characters. Funny, gross, wholesome and creepy in equal measure.

Fede Alvarez's Calls: People making and receiving phone calls from different dimensions. Like Final destination but super weird. I'd file it as a podcast even though it was sold as a show. There are no visuals so you can just listen to it and let your imagination run wild. I binged it while sick in bed once and it was a bad time (in a good way). Cosmic horror, body horror, existential horror and more. Not your usual.

The Paper chase: This music has the atmosphere I try to capture in my comics, which is dark and mad and angry and scary, but still coherent if you follow the thread. Their albums have themes about ghosts, about religious trauma, about ways the world could end. I love that they use scissors, knives, creaking floors and slamming doors as percussion. I'd say it's a unique listening experience, but if you like Daughters and Swans, you'll love The Paper Chase.

Buttress: A mumble rapper that reads books, her lyrics are actually deep and she raps about horrors suffered by women through history, witch hunts, abortion, the whore of babylon. She's a genius and she directs her own music videos. If you like Clipping, check this out.

Supergrass - Mary: Not so scary now, but I gotta say watching this music video as a child at 3 am fucked me up and maybe that's why I'm like this today. Reminds me of the movie Ghostwatch.
