Vumbi Pride lionesses versus C-Boy. This was snapped right after C-Boy growled at one of the cubs.
Taken in the Serengeti, Tanzania Photographed by Michael Nichols
daemon straight up having the best day of his fucking life 😭 flying his dragon to king's landing to take the throne, putting many greens to the sword, witnessing all gold cloaks return to his side and prove their loyalty to him, finding otto in the dungeons and then getting to watch his beloved queen wife behead that man using dark sister with a big ass smile on his face
not even cuz he wants to rule, either. bro is in it for the love the game (aka his wife)
What I wanted to learn about the Darkling from the books:
How and why he created the Shadow Fold
How he created the Second Army and the Little Palace and how they actually function
What he has been up to for literal centuries
What his actual political and ideological views are and how he envisioned the future for Ravka and Grisha.
What I learned about the Darkling from the books instead:
The color of his eyes. They are grey, which is stated about 250 times in case someone is still not sure what color grey looks like.
the state of his hair at any given point in time.
He has a bEaUtIfUl face. Yes, it's also repeated 250 times in case you suddenly forget that he is handsome.
His laugh sounds sexy
His bare chest is irresistibly hawt
The books are cursed with a shallow, ignorant protagonist who keeps focusing on wrong things.
No, being sexually attracted to a "bad" guy and berating herself for it doesn't make the heroine complex. Moral complexity would require her to actually engage with the political climate around her, consider the actions of her enemies and allies and their impact on objective reality instead of how they make her feel, and, most importantly, reflect on her own choices rather than judging someone else's. Emotional complexity would require her to be torn between her lingering attachment and empathy for the antagonist and her judgment of his methods and actions. The closest she gets to empathizing with him is noticing that he sometimes looks "like a boy," which is purely visual.
Salivating over the guy's chest and feeling bad because of it doesn't make her a nuanced and morally complex protagonist. It makes her a horny prude.
Sexual frustration doesn't equal complexity. Sexual attraction doesn't have anything to do with morals—it's morally neutral. It's just hormones. The fact that Alina was tempted by his body is not a moral failure. Being attracted to a handsome man is one of the things she shouldn't feel guilty about. She'd do better if she felt guilty for her bigotry; her supporting rapists, oppressors, and various hateful violent bigots; her committing a mass murder and other war crimes; or her tendency to abandon everyone and care only about herself and her dishrag friend, or at least for being a cunt towards everyone who is not the said dishrag friend.
Instead, she is shamed for having a libido and only feels guilty when Mal looks like something crawled up his ass. And we are supposed to be impressed by her virtue, purity, and humility because she a) won't fuck an evil guy and b) would rather stay powerless and miserable than use her power for the collective good.

i don’t really think it’s fair to say or imply that Loki was Mobius’ slave, or even the TVA’s. Mobius is just doin his job for one. And for another, Loki is a criminal, even if he wasn’t in his right mind when he invaded earth, he still invaded it. he does still have to pay for that, and in that light, the TVA went easy on him. Maybe their relationship shouldn’t have been presented as quite so friendly, but I think they were friends by the end of the season and saying all this awful stuff about Mobius being Loki’s jailer captor enslaver torturer and whatever…it’s too far and there’s no real canon basis for it.
ah yes, of course, bad things are fine to do if someone has done bad things. because they deserve it. got it.
Listen. I’m not sure what canon you’ve been watching but forcing someone to work with you under threat of death is bad, lying to and blaming them for future events is bad, putting someone in intentional distress and knowing they will react bad to their mother’s death and leaving the images up is bad, telling them that they were born to cause pain and suffering and death (especially when their father is Odin, their siblings are Hela and Thor) is bad, leaving someone getting beaten up and rubbing salt in their fears (even as part of ‘breaking them’) is bad, casually dehumanizing people (words like “pet” and “my/your Loki” and “the Variant”) and pruning/resetting/killing people en masse or on an individual basis once they’re of no use to you is bad, I’m not even going to continue this list because the TVA itself has such BAD vibes it’s literally an authority that’s enforcing it’s own turn of events and calling it ‘sacred’ with people like Mobius/B-15/Renslayer pushing their agenda forward because they simply believe it’s for the greater good while invalidating Loki’s questions until the point where they personally find out they were also Variants (and still express no remorse/mention of any moral argument or lives taken, they just comment on how they could’ve been happy before).
Like, buddy, pal, I don’t know how to tell you this but Mobius is very clearly psychologically torturing Loki in episode 1 in order to break him down and get him to join their side, I would even argue that he physically does so in exercising control of where Loki can move or how he reacts with the collar after riling him up. He does the same thing in episode 4 even more explicitly for everyone who missed it.
Arguing he advocates for or sees the best in Loki is something that doesn’t have a canon basis. very “that’s not how I see it,” “Is that possible? He can change?” “You could be whoever, whatever you wanna be, even someone good” is surrounded by interrogation tactics and “give my regards to Lady Sif” “What a incredible seismic narcissist” “He’s softening in the Time Cell, but while he marinates…” “Just kind of an asshole and a bad friend. Yeah, chew on that for a little bit” “And, hey, if it doesn’t work, I’ll delete him myself.”
There is explicit canon basis of these things, and whether you’d rather not acknowledge them is up to you, and I don’t blame you for thinking otherwise since the narrative frames Mobius as some kind of moral pillar of righteous goodness (he ain’t) and has he and Loki use the words “friends,” but I want it on record I don’t use words like slave or torturer or abuser lightly, and don’t recall having used slaver/enslaver/captor/jailer for Mobius like you’ve implied either, though some of the words you’ve got listed would be accurate descriptions, I’d think, since Loki’s only option was work for the TVA or die - until the end of Episode 3, after which he was accused of having ‘betrayed’ Mobius and been a ‘bad friend’.
I’m not even going to address “i don’t really think it’s fair to say or imply that Loki was Mobius’ slave, or even the TVA’s [slave]” “mobius us just doin his job” “the TVA went easy on him” or “maybe their relationship shouldn’t have been presented as quite so friendly” because I don’t think I’m capable of doing that without some strong language and a lot of caps lock and this post is already long enough I think.
I also want it noted that Loki’s hardly done anything worse than the hero characters. Just because he’s been framed as an antagonist doesn’t make his own actions worse or theirs better, so do please feel free to apply the same logic you are on what Loki deserves on them too.
Here’s relevant posts in the event you wish to read up: (on Mobius’ inherent goodness and his job) (on Mobius’ take on Frigga) (the holy grail of Loki (2021) meta masterposts) (on Loki supposedly learning to care in the show) (thor 1 loki doesn’t deserve bad treatment)
Yes to all of this. I’ll just add a few other thoughts.
1) Whether or not Loki has done bad things is utterly irrelevant to whether he is a victim of torture and enslavement. Torture is still torture no matter what the victim has done. It’s not just bad to torture or enslave an innocent person. It’s bad to torture or enslave anyone because torture and slavery are fundamentally evil. That’s why they are universally banned rather than just restricted to being used in certain cases. Because there is NEVER a case where torture or enslavement are acceptable. So what Loki has or has not done is not relevant. The only thing that’s relevant is whether what Mobius and the TVA are doing meet the definitions of torture and slavery.
2) Mobius gleefully subjects Loki to physical torture by leaving him to be repeatedly beaten in the genital area. This is a very clearcut and straight forward example of physical torture. And Mobius feels no compassion for Loki or remorse over what he has done to him. If anything he seems to find it amusing. And certainly the audience is supposed to find it amusing (which is gross and harmful messaging on Disney’s part). He also subjects Loki to psychological torture. This is a fact. There are multiple instances in the show where the TVA and Mobius subject Loki to treatment that would meet the legal definition of torture under both US law and international law. Furthermore, Mobius and the TVA are holding Loki against his will and forcing him to labor without compensation or any hope of release because they view him as belonging to a group of people (Variants) that they view as inferior and not really people. That’s a pretty textbook case of slavery. So objectively Mobius is Loki’s jailer, torturer, captor, and enslaver.
3) “Mobius is just doin his job for one” is a really harmful idea. “I was just following orders” has been used to try to excuse some truly horrific acts. But guess what? It doesn’t hold up. It didn’t hold up in Nuremberg. And in the modern day soldiers have an obligation to disobey unlawful orders; if they don’t they are responsible for any warcrimes they commit, even if they were ordered to commit these crimes. Because there is no excuse for being complicit in the types of things Mobius is complicit in. Especially given that there is no evidence that Mobius is in any way being coerced. He is cheerfully and enthusiastically complicit in the TVA’s routine acts of genocide, murder, torture, police brutality, privacy violation, trial without due process, enslavement, forced labor, summary execution, inhumane execution, and illegitimate imposition of authority.
4) If Loki did bad things, then the TVA did worse things and thus are not moral authorities. If the TVA’s actions are acceptable then so are Loki’s. If Loki was wrong to violently impose his will on a planet (let’s forget about the context with Thanos for a minute) then the TVA is wrong to violently impose its will on all of reality in order to eliminate free will. If Loki was wrong to kill a few people, then the TVA was certainly wrong to kill trillions. And thus neither Mobius nor the TVA are moral authorities when it comes to Loki because they are infinitely worse. If the actions that Mobius and the TVA took are acceptable, then there is no reason to criticize Loki because he did far less than them.
Alllllll of this ^^
Also just want to additionally note that the TVA does not arrest Loki for attacking Midgard. That is not what he is on trial for (nor could they hold him accountable for such a crime since, according to Mobius, his actions were fated by the TVA—meaning if he hadn’t invaded Earth, they would have simply reset the timeline until he did). The crime he is being charged with is… existing. That’s it, fullstop. That’s why he’s being enslaved under pain of death. Because the TVA (who, mind you, were not elected by anyone) unilaterally decided he shouldn’t exist. Any argument in their favour which claims Loki “needs to pay for his crimes” has already delegitimized itself purely by misrepresenting the very purpose of that organization.

I’m sorry but….this is hilarious to me😂. Zuko literally leaving his fighting pose to yell at his little sister is both so in character and such a sibling move.
I'm sorry, I can and I WILL shit on NATLA all day, but this part...legit I loved it.
Because a) Such an Azula thing to say and b) Such a Zuko reaction.
(If only it didn't come with the weird merger of The Chase, The Blind Bandit and Zuko Alone)
