Hi Mark! I wanted to ask about everyone’s new favorite otter, Tolabow. There is some interesting wording on the card and has caused me to reread your article “Ability Word To Your Mom”. I’m trying to understand the design intent of the card.

Jesse Dinks weighed in on the rules to the card, but ability words aren’t rules related.

Is Tolabow a WUBRG commander with limits of instants and sorceries 1 additional mana beyond Blue, where Mono-color X spells are legal and UX spells are legal? Would Swords be legal (White is 1 additional beyond Blue) as would Vampiric Tutor (Black is 1 additional beyond Blue) as would Simic Ascendancy (Green is 1 additional beyond blue) however Despark would not be?

I think a WUBRG commander with limits (not all the good stuff AND having to rely on only basic lands) is really clever. Was wondering what design’s intent was as the ruling people are putting a cork on fun.

You only get to choose one color beyond blue for the deck. For example, if you choose red, you just get to add red and blue/red instants and sorceries. It is not a five-color Commander.
