Rumi yawned as she strolled out of her room. She could see that Zoey and Mira were already sitting down for breakfast, chatting as they ate. Zoey was still in her Pj’s while Mira was dressed for the day ahead. Huntr/x had a photoshoot coming up for a fashion designer; even though clothes would be provided for them at the shoot, Celine had always taught them that, while first impressions mattered, so did every impression after that.
“Hey Mir, Zo. How’d you sleep?” Rumi stretched again, suppressing a yawn. She arched her back and pulled her arms above her head. She felt her back cracked in a few places. She was parched from sleep, and she wanted orange juice. She reached out to open the fridge door. Her hand had just brushed the handle when she felt something heavy slam into her.
Rumi felt the air rush out of her lungs in a wheeze. She was now pinned against the fridge. An arm was pressed against her neck, but she couldn’t see what was going on, as she had her face pinned against the fridge door. What the fuck was going on? Were they under attack by demons? She hadn’t seen any, but they could have teleported inside the penthouse. Rumi tried to push back against her assailant, but she stilled as she heard the unmistakable noise of a weapon being pulled from the Honmoon. The point of the weapon was being pressed into her back.
“What the fuck Mira?” Zoey shouted, and Rumi was confused. Was Mira the one pinning her? Rumi heard a growl as her body was roughly rotated against the fridge, and she winced at the rough treatment. She could now see the identity of her assailant, and it was indeed Mira. Why the fuck was Mira attacking her?
“Did you think you could just waltz in here and pretend to be our teammate without us noticing, demon?” Rumi’s breath caught in her throat. How did she know? How had Rumi fucked this up? She was about to try to explain herself when Zoey’s voice cut through her thoughts.
“What are you talking about Mira? There haven’t been any demon attacks recently, and we have been around Rumi practically constantly since the last one. We would have noticed if a demon was pretending to be her this whole time.” Salvation. Rumi stood at the edge of a cliff, and Zoey had reached out a hand to pull her away from the edge.
“Well how do you explain this then?” Mira yanked up Rumi’s sleeve, exposing Rumi’s patterns to Zoey’s gaze. Rumi saw Zoey’s face harden. She felt as if the hand keeping her from plummeting let go, and she was left to fall endlessly into the abyss. “I saw them when it stretched. Stupid demon probably forgot it had patterns.” Rumi silently cursed her own stupidity. She must have forgotten to check whether or not her patterns had spread during the night. They hadn’t spread in so long! She had gotten complacent. “So demon, where is Rumi? And don’t try feeding me your bullshit. Rumi is the most vehement demon hater out of all of us, so we know there is no way you are ‘actually Rumi’. Now tell us where she is!” Every word of the last sentence was emphasized with an increase in pressure of the gok-do pressed against her ribs. It was nestled in the spot where the blade could pierce between her ribs and stab her heart, killing her instantly.
