zoey getting up in the morning and stretching causing her shirt to ride up and almost immediately rumi launches towards her and latches her fangs onto the patch of skin that’s showing now
This is really just self-indulgent for me :). Sources on animal details will be at the end of the post!!!
But I know Zoey & Rumi would be a Turtle & Tiger
But is there like — a somewhat general consensus on what Mira’s “spirit animal” could/would be?
I’ve taken a Vertebrate Biology class before & based on my own personal research on these animals—
Personally I feel like Rumi is more like a Sea Otter 🦦 than a Tiger 🐯— but I understand the “pattern symbolism” in a way, soo…
Mira-wise, I feel like she would be an Octopus 🐙!
————————————————————————
First, headcanons & Aphantasia Rumi rantings
(Maybe I’ll turn it into a fic one day if I ever sit down long enough to figure out how to write it 😭. Includes a couple of my own personal headcanons).
1) Rumi’s half-demon physiology greatly accelerates her metabolism—
——> Rumi’s “eating habits” help fuel her metabolism.
2) I LOVEEEE the idea of Zoey feeling homesick over her home in California. Except… Zoey can’t really call it a home anymore… so she hides her homesickness and doesn’t want to tell Mira or Rumi because she doesn’t want it to come off like she doesn’t want to be with them 😞.
——> The California Sea Otter population is listed as threatened under the ‘Endangered Species Act.’”
——> Not AS related but I feel like Zoey would know this bcus of the connection to California.
3) Aphantasiac Rumi — and tbh I think Rumi would have night terrors so… just the idea of Rumi having a night terror where she only has “the sense of knowing” — she can’t control her actions or fully see what’s happening, but she can feel overwhelming emotions and all her mind can focus on is Mira and Zoey…
——> This will make you hyper aware of your imagination but I think the concept of Aphantasia (“without imagination”) is interesting!!! I think I have it. It’s the idea that some people can’t create “mental images” of the things they’re imagining. Close your eyes and try to visualize a horse. Now, what do you see? A brief image of a horse? I don’t see anything but I think of the idea of a horse — I assume it’s brown bcus that’s the color I most associate with horses.
Now think of a beach, do you see a beach(?) can you imagine the sound of the waves? I don’t see anything but I think of the concept of a beach. I don’t even have “involuntary flashes” of things.
The first Reddit link is to someone who I think described it well!! They have “involuntary flashes” of things but can’t hold the mental image. They also have vivid dreams. The second link has a drawing and comments in it help!! If you want to read more:

IMO It’s almost like the reverse of Eleven/Jane from Stranger Things. She can “project” imagery onto her “mental void” and enter others’ minds/“mental voids.” But Jane (at first) just sees a void until she forces herself to project her mind.
This is just my own theory, but maybe Aphantasia is connected to the idea of a “photographic memory?” I used to think I had one and could read something multiple times to memorize it. Now I can “trace” the image of a infographic with my finger to help me remember what some of it said, but I don’t have the “mental image” of the table. So maybe Aphantasia is the idea of your mind pushing the “same things around you” into long term memory?
————————————————————————
Okay I’m done talking & theorizing about Aphantasia. Time for the actual snippet!!!
So, Zoey is such a huge animal and biology nerd to me (I might be projecting some). I have so many headcanons and cute ideas linked to this.
But I think the idea of Zoey teasing Mira over this would be cute!!!
I feel like Zoey would know all of these different facts about marine animals bcus of her heavy interest in turtles too — I love ZoeRumi but also Implied Polytrix 🥹
When Zoey teases her, Mira would probably be confused at first.
Because she’s thinking:
“Seriously?? An octopus 🐙 ?? Why out of all animals is she comparing me to an Octopus??
Then later that night Mira
would spend her time furiously researching a bunch of different marine animals to understand “Why?”.
First she’d research octopuses, then turtles, then sea otters, then somehow— it would lead to research into different breeds of sharks.
I feel like Mira would “obsess”— over the concept of sharks and how they live. Their senses, “aggression,” etc. But she would be devastated by the fact that sometimes new born baby Sharks eat each other 😞
So the next day, when Zoey ends up casually mentioning turtles,
Mira chirps in after listening to whatever Zoey was saying and says to Zoey:
(with a grin on her face)
“I would be a shark.”
(Mira agrees with Zoey’s ‘Octopus assessment’ after reading about their traits. But she’s not going to admit that she spent her entire night’s sleep researching marine animals because of what Zoey said)
And all Zoey can feel is amazed and like she’s special.
Because she’d be thinking:
“Wow… Mira took the time to look up the things I like.”
Zoey isn’t surprised — after all this time, she knows Mira. But it still makes her flustered & feel special to know, feel, and think about the fact that Mira dedicated time in her day to learning about her interests.
People from before wouldn’t have done that for her…
But Zoey doesn’t directly voice any of that — it’d feel too embarassing & she doesn’t want to talk about “things from back ‘home.’” Those memories hurt too much & she feels guilty for even thinking about her childhood ‘home.’
And she feels happy right now, so how can she even want to think of those memories?
Zoey just ends up acting visibly flustered & embarassed.
Then Mira follows up with an even bigger grin
“I feel like Rumi would be a Sea Otter.”
And Rumi, who’s been intently listening to their exchange the entire time on the side, just gawks at that statement.
She doesn’t really know much if anything about Sea Otters. It’s not that she “doesn’t care.” Rumi just always put her responsibilities first — even above herself. She doesn’t know too much about any of these animals.
Rumi doesn’t respond, she just hangs her head & hunches slightly over where she’s standing because she feels embarassed that she doesn’t understand what they’re talking about.
Zoey immediately notices Rumi’s expression and stance. (Mira’s back was turned to Rumi during the convo)
Zoey smiles at Rumi and just starts explaining why she agrees that “Yes Rumi *would* be a Sea Otter…”
Because:
- “They are very sensitive to habitat disturbances unless populations living near humans have been naturally & heavily habituated by human presence over time.”
—> Sea Otters are extremely protective of their ‘home’ & young (pups). They visibly present as “soft” but can act fiercely defensive if they feel threatened.
- “They are ‘keystone species’ and naturally help support the other organisms in their ecosystems”
—> Rumi is the first half-demon. She is arguably the most connected to the Honmoon. Zoey & Mira ‘need’ Rumi to stay aligned with them, but really they just deeply care about her.
- “They have an average body temp. of 100 F (~37.8 C) bcus of their accelerated metabolism & consumption of ‘about a quarter of their body weight each day.’”
The *California* Sea Otter population is listed as threatened under the ‘Endangered Species Act.’”
—> Not AS related but I feel like Zoey would know this bcus of the connection to California.
And that’s what clues them in on Zoey’s buried “homesickness.’”
But the realization doesn’t happen until later. When Rumi has retreated to her own room and starts thinking back on everything she did with Mira and Zoey that day.
And it’s almost tragic to Mira and Rumi.
They know and feel like Zoey cares about them.
But they don’t want Zoey to feel like she has to give up “the happy memories” of her ‘home’ for them.
During the actual conversation —
Rumi just becomes more & more flustered. It’s so much to process at once but she’s making the connections in her head as she listens to Zoey talk—
Zoey’s overload of word and explanation fills Rumi’s head and it flusters her because her brain isn’t working fast enough. Zoey can see that Rumi is overwhelmed.
So, knowing that Rumi is usually okay with it in these moments, Zoey softly smiles and walks up to her (in her down-cast line of sight) and gently eases Rumi into a hug.
—> Clinging to the things they need/want to survive
- “They use their arms to ‘walk’ on seafloor”
- “Blood blue in color”
—> “Unique” existence
- “Three functioning hearts”
—> “Unique” existence
——> Kind at heart (my bs tbh)
- “Solitary creatures & ‘experts’ at camouflage
—> Self isolation & concealing their ‘true self’
- “Believed to be quite intelligent—capable of learning, using tools, & remembering locations.”
—> Amazing intelligence & ‘pattern recognition’ towards Rumi & Zoey’s actions & behaviors in the movie. Even when they “can’t”/“don’t” directly say how they’re feeling.
- Which leads to arguments & incorrect assumptions. Like the confrontation on the train.
Mira's heart was pounding, the halls of her home blurring as she followed behind Rumi and Zoey to Celine's room. Voices muffled and concerned, Mira couldn't make out what they were saying, her mind on a singular focus.
Rumi.
Protect Rumi.
Eyes followed Rumi intensely while Zoey still held onto her hand as they kneeled by Celine’s side on the floor. Listless on ground and Mira felt her weapon in her grip and jaw tight trying to hold back from rushing after Miyeong now.
Mira could feel the change within her and felt the lines connecting her to Zoey and Rumi pulling taught. Desperate to have them closer to form a shield around this tower and to destroy anything that even considered harming them.
"Mira? Mira, are you ok?" Rumi's voice sounds so distant as she is just a metre away.
“No, we just got attacked by a ghost,” Mira replies, her heart pounding eyes scanning the room keeping a wide protective stance.
“A vampire,” Zoey corrects bitterly.
Celine lets out a shaky gasp and Mira faces her as she mumbles Miyeong's name, looking dazed and confused.
Mira meets her eyes and the clouded edges of the world snap back into focus. “Did you know?” Mira asks, voice low like a growl.
Celine lets out a breath as her eyes go wide and she shakes her head.
“I watched as she took her last breath,” Celine responds, attempting to rise, but her legs betray her, sending her stumbling onto her knees.
Rumi places a gentle hand on Celine’s shoulder, “Be careful. You hit your head, it’s bleeding,”
“I’m fine, Rumi,” Celine paused letting out a choked sob as she placed her hands on Rumi’s cheek, “Tell me what happened? What did she want?”
“Rumi.” Zoey said through staggered breaths beside them. “She wants Rumi.”
“She won’t touch her,” Mira said, eyes dark, voice low as she pivoted around them.
Eyes scanning the room for any movement readying to strike.
“Mira don’t, let me talk to her,” Celine says, surging to her feet with Zoey and Rumi, holding out their hands in case she tumbles back down.
“Talk? Sure what should we discuss first how she sold her soul or almost killed us,” Mira said as her throat tightened and her words hoarse.
“Don’t let your anger control you,” Celine said with a haunted look in her eyes.
Mira wants to scream but her throat only tightens strangled by her own guilt and frustration and she can only huff a laugh. "The one time I need you to be the ruthless hunter,” Mira said.
"Mira?” Rumi asks as her voice breaks.
“You understand what she did? Sabotaged Rumi’s chances to hunt until she was near death, had no choice but to drink from me,”
A silence falls and Mira can still feel the ‘but’., She knows what that argument is, and what will shut it down.
“Set a siren on us… Zoey almost died,” Mira's voice trembled, near breaking.
Rumi stiffened up and rose to her feet, her eyes went to Zoey then back to Mira “… If I hadn’t left, Molly never would have-” Rumi said as a guilt burned in her eyes.
"This wasn’t your fault,” Mira said firmly.
“It is my fault! You got hurt because I ran, because I couldn’t face what I am!” Rumi said, patterns blazing and claws out, trembling.
Mira’s shoulders slumped, she should have known there was no need to be mad at Rumi, to punish her, she would do that herself.
“No Rumi, Miyeong didn’t give you a chance, she just pushed you until you broke instead of giving you time… We were just giving you time,” Zoey argued, one hand still wrapped around Rumi’s wrist.
“You think Miyeong did all this… To force Rumi to bite you! Why?” Celine asked, eyes wide horrified and they only responded with a nod of their heads. “She died getting drained of blood, why would she-”
Celine’s words broke off her face contorted in agony and Mira still had her weapon in hand, not ready to let up. Stepping closer, she noticed something determined in Rumi’s eyes. Something dangerous. “What are you thinking?” Mira asked.
“Celine, how did she die, exactly?” Rumi asked, a look in her eyes. Mira couldn’t quite register it was almost hopeful.
“What… Rumi?” Celiens scoffed as if the question was in poor taste.
“You said you found her bleeding, that my father had bitten her?” Rumi asked, her eyes lost deep in thought. “That he couldn’t control his thirst?" Rumi asked her eyes looking back at Mira and then Zoey.
“He was draining her blood, biting all over like a feral animal,” Celine said but her voice sounded unsure.
Mira inhaled deep then caught on to Rumi’s thinking and met Celine’s eyes.
“That doesn’t make sense though. You told me you were friends with him, that even you had grown to trust him,” Mira said her heart sank as the truth revealed itself.
“What if he was trying to heal Miyeong, when Celine killed him,” Zoey said with a gasp looking up to Rumi. “Maybye he never lost control,”
“No. No. I saw it, he was killing her… I saw it, I stopped him,” Celine said her voice faded to a whisper.
“Other demons attacked them, she might have been injured in the fight,” Rumi said before pausing and then her eyes were searching, “Maybe that’s what she wanted to talk about?”
“Rumi I don’t- I can still fix it,” Celine said in a daze as she tried to stand but slunk back down to the ground.
“Fix?” Zoey huffed “You still don’t understand, this isn’t something you fix Celine,” she said shaking her head.
Rumi was quiet, her eyes distant and Mira could see her thinking over everything with a fresh set of eyes. All the times she pulled away or suppressed her needs thinking, she would lose control. “I have to talk to her to know for sure,”
Mira's hand was cupping the side of Rumi’s cheek instantly pulling her back to the present.
“You can’t just give her what she wants,” Mira voices, breaking as her jaw tightens and unwillingness to yield starts to burn her up inside, “I can’t let you do this. Not alone, Rumi. Wherever you go, we follow, and I won’t lose you again.”
“You won’t, I’m not going to let that happen. No one, nothing, is going to pull us apart now,” Rumi said, her smile fully reaching her eyes in that rare way that always made Mira’s heart skip a beat.
“You can’t promise that,” Mira said, shaking her head.
“Don’t you see? I’m yours, Mira. I literally couldn’t survive without you and Zoey. She knows that, so she won’t separate us. It’s just empty threats,”
“Rumi, how can you be sure?” Mira asked, trying to mask the desperation in her voice.
“You feel it, don’t you?” Rumi said, putting her hand over Mira’s heart and a soothing warmth flowed over her. “I’ll always find you,”
“I don’t want you to have to,” Zoey said, wrapping her arms around Rumi’s waist.
“I know,” Rumi said with a sigh, her hand cradling Zoey’s head.
Mira's heart eased ever so slightly but it wasn’t enough she couldn’t turn off the crippling fear her hairs still stood on end and her anger remained. “I don’t understand how a hunter could ever make a deal with Gwi-Ma,” Mira said but the words prickled under her skin because she knew exactly what would make a person that desperate. Make her that desperate.
"There are many things you do not understand,” Celine said, her eyes snapped up onto Rumi intently.
Putting her hand away from Mira, Rumi shrunk away from the attention like she wasn’t aware of how fiercely they all loved her. “I’ll get the medical kit,” Rumi said.
Rumi stepped away while Zoey still held her hand and they walked into the bathroom reaching for the tattered tin box kept under the sink.
Mira could feel her muscles ease and hands loosen their grip on her gok-do while Rumi inspected the back of Celine’s head. Despite a weak attempt to brush away Rumi’s hand, Celine’s expression softened at Rumi’s touch.
Rumi worked like a veteran nurse cleaning and applying wound cream and a bandage with careful attention to detail. All the while Zoey didn’t let go and Rumi finished the entire process, one handed without complaint.
“I could have done that myself,” Celine said, after Rumi was done.
Rumi made an amused sound in her throat “You could have just said thanks,”
Celine smiled then raw and loving as she looked up to Rumi proudly, but it was the eyes of a woman who didn’t think she deserved such tender care. Rumi just shook her head and wrapped her arm around Celine holding her close for a moment, before Zoey moved in and embraced her as well.
“Come here Mira,” Rumi encouraged.
Holding up her gok do in one hand, Mira moved closer wrapping her arm, loosely around all three of them. They just held each other for a minute, tears streaming and steady breaths until Rumi stepped back. “I’m sorry.”
“We know,” Zoey chuckled lightly.
“You can keep apologising though,” Mira said, feeling her smile return for a moment.
“I’m going to bed. You girls should do the same,” Celine said, her eyes on them intently.
“I'll do a perimeter sweep first and check the doors are locked,” Mira said feeling a tenseness and a need to do something, took over all rational thought.
“Mira, she can teleport,” Rumi said quietly.
Mira groaned, Rumi’s words causing a whole new spiral in her brain. She just couldn’t rest with danger still looming over them.
“You're tired,” Rumi said, a smile edged into the corners of her lips as she brushed a bit of hair covering Mira's eyes.
“I’m not,” Zoey beamed.
“Zoey,” Rumi warned, her ministrations quickly diverting back to the maknae. “How are you feeling? You’re positive everything is all back to normal? There’s no lurking pain, no inflexibility anywhere? No drowsiness, lightheadedness, is there any-””
“Rumi, I’m healed. I’m not high, you really did it,” Zoey said as she tugged Rumi forward and out of Celine’s room and Mira followed behind them.
They walked out of the room, letting Celine have some time to herself and moved as a group down to Rumi’s bedroom.
“I still think we should take you to a doctor. Both of you,” Rumi said, her eyes wide, distant. “Just to be sure. Run some tests.”
“Ok, but then you have to drop it,” Mira said.
Rumi clearly meant to argue, but her voice croaked as her mouth formed a yawn. Sighing, she huffed quietly. “I will, if they can confirm there are no side effects,”
“We’ll go tomorrow,” Zoey added, her gaze falling deliberately to Rumi’s bed..
Rumi stilled, as if she only just then realised they were in her room. Mira heard her gulp nervously.
“Something wrong?” Zoey asked, stilling herself, as if Rumi were a frightened animal.
“I don’t—I don’t want to sleep alone anymore.” Rumi bit her lip, nervously glancing at her two lovers. “Can you stay?”
“We don’t either,” Mira said meeting Zoey’s eyes she knew they both had the same thought.
“I’m never letting you go again,” Zoey said with a smile at the corner of her lips, but her eyes revealed how desperate she was to keep that vow.
Mira sighed realizing this was going to be the kind of healing that took time but at least they were really healing now. It was calmer than things had ever been despite their uninvited guest tonight as they freshened up and got ready for sleep.
Now it was back to shared wistful looks and small smiles every time their eyes met or hands touched skin. When Mira noted a thoughtful restrained look in Rumi’s expression as she sat on the edge of her bed beside Zoey, “Rumi, what’s on your mind?”
“I want to go to the studio tomorrow, see Bobby,” Rumi said quickly.
“Rumi?” Mira said her tone already passed warning and her hands already clenched and saw Zoey about to speak before Rumi interrupted.
“I have to do damage control. We were supposed to be recording a new song, remember? Instead I’ve been missing for a week. What did you tell people?”
“That you are taking a break,” Zoey explained. Bobby’s on top of it, been telling everyone you’re under the weather.”
“Good. We’ll tell him I’m all better and we can see him in the afternoon,” Rumi said plainly.
Mira huffed wondering if she read everything wrong, “What about finding Miyeong, what if she-”
“What is she going to stroll into Sunlight Entertainment, with her face plastered on the walls might be hard to stay under the radar,” Rumi smiled in a weak attempt to ease them to which Zoey slapped her palm on her forehead and Mira just let out a frustrated huff.
“Trust me, this will be good for us,” Rumi asserted with a look in her eyes that was different then the blind determination she usually had.
“Okay we will go. But we stay together and at the first sign of trouble we leave,” Mira said and Rumi nodded,”I mean it no questions, we just go,” She reiterated.
“Wow that was easy, I thought you were going to say no for sure,” Rumi teases, smiling wider.
“You're lucky you're so hot,” Mira said and couldn't help but smile back as she joined them on the bed.
Every kiss felt like there first there last with the way Mira’s hairs stood on end in anticipation and when their lips met she still felt an intense buzz of pleasure. Slow for only a moment before teeth were clicking and their breaths quickly became ragged. Then Zoey’s lips were on her jaw and her tongue slipped into her mouth. While Rumi’s lips didn’t leave Mira’s skin, making a trail of kisses down her neck. Mira felt the distinct sensation of fangs skimming along her skin and Rumi sighed satisfied.
This was usually where she halted and pulled back but she didn’t. Rumi didn’t bite her either but just kept kissing and nipped a tiny bit. Then she was gone and Mira heard Zoey moan into her mouth and Mira knew it was because Rumi was kissing her neck now.
“Fuck. Rumi,” Zoey gasped breathlessly, pulling back just enough to talk.
“Is that ok? Do you like-”
“I loved that,” Mira replied with a smile, her hand sliding down Rumi cheek to her mouth, the pad of her thumb brushing on the bottom left fang.
“Yeah, do that again,” Zoey said, grinning.
“Another time, we need to sleep,” Mira said, looking at the clock and realizing that she had been up for the last thirty hours.
Zoey nodded while Mira and Rumi moved up the bed and lay down. It was so effortless and normal. Mira lay on her side an arm wrapped around Rumi as she pressed up against her side lightly. Rumi looked up at Zoey then as she was on her feet now standing over them hand still entwined with Rumi’s.
“I’ll keep watch,” Zoey said.
Rumi froze, guilt immediately finding her eyes, “No, it’s fi-”
“Rumi, I don't want to argue,” Zoey said with a pleading smile.
“You’ll wake us if you get tired,” Mira ordered, despite the drowsiness already taking its toll on her as she lay on her side, arms curling around Rumi.
“I don’t think I’ll ever feel tired again,” Zoey replied as she looked over them with loving eyes.
“Sounds kind of like a threat to me,” Mira teased as the reality of sleeping with Rumi in her arms was enough to dampen her anxiety.
“Both of you, on the bed. Now.” Zoey ordered—gently—as she guided Rumi closer.
“Bossy,” Rumi chuckled.
Zoey grinned with a gleam in her eyes suggesting she enjoyed the control being the one who didn’t need looking after for once. In fact the smile didn’t leave her face as she drew the blanket over them but her hand was still holding Rumi’s.
Meeting her eyes softly Mira took Rumi’s hand from Zoey's as they moved to lay down and she let go slowly. “I got her,” Mira said with a small smile.
Zoey exhaled, glancing over the room once. “I’m getting you water and plushies, Rumi has none in here.”
“Make sure you get one from your room,” Rumi instructed.
“Why?” Zoey asked, confused.
“I need your… your scent,” Rumi said her cheeks flushed.
Zoey doesn't say anything to that but lets out a shaky breath, her eyes glistening.
“Wake me when you want a cuddle, I can keep watch,” Mira added, letting out a sigh.
“I’ll be fine, you two watched over me for so long today. Now it’s your turn to rest,” Zoey said with her best pushy voice, and Mira couldn’t help but smile fondly at her as Rumi nestled in closer.
“I like assertive Zoey,” Mira said as she closed her eyes, quickly drifting off to a peaceful sleep.
Mira didn’t hear anyone else speak but felt the blanket tuck in around her firm and Zoey’s lips kissing her temple.
–-
With a yawn and her thoughts on getting some caffeine Mira makes her way to the kitchen and spots Zoey staring blankly at the window. Not out at the view but at all the papers still strewn across it and then she suddenly starts tearing it all down.
“What’s going on?” Mira asks, rushing over.
“I never would have figured it out,” Zoey sighs defeated. “That Rumi was trapped on the other side of the Honmoon,”
“Zoey, you are not beating yourself up about this,” Mira said as a red hot anxiety washed over her still present from their fight.
“I’m sorry Mira. I was so afraid of being alone. I got lost in this, alone in my fixation,”
“Zoey, you don’t have to apologise. I do. I left you, again,” Mira said, her voice faded to a whisper as her heart seized up, at the memory of walking away from Zoey after the idol awards.
Moving closer Zoey shook her head with nothing but love and understanding in her eyes.
“The siren pushed you to that point,” she said, slowly wrapping Mira’s waist in a tight hug. “And Rumi, and me. But there was something for her to grasp at.”
“Our love for each other, our insecurities, beating us down for weeks with mind games,” Mira said, her anger like fire in her veins.
“I was just so afraid of losing you both,” her raven haired lover continued, her dark brown eyes pouting up at Mira. “And wanted to be the reliable one, for once,”
Mira smiled at Zoey’s unwavering need to find the positive in everything and nodded “You are reliable. You’re so strong Zoey. You never gave up, When I-” She finished barely managing to look Zoey in the eyes.
“Neither did you Mira,” Zoey said with a small scoff and Mira shook her head.
Felt guilt burning in her throat barely able to confess what she’d done, “You don’t know what happened, I let her… I kissed the siren, I knew it wasn’t Rumi but I wanted it-Rumi so badly,”
“We both let Molly get into our head, I did bite her tongue off though,” Zoey said letting out an amused huff.
“Wish I could have seen that,” Mira said with a smile, picturing it in her mind.
Zoey raised her eyebrows, “You got to drive your gok-do through her chest, how did that feel?”
“I was too angry to even enjoy it… I thought I’d lost you both,” Mira croaked out and Zoey pressed in closer to Mira chest.
“Where right here,” Zoey said, letting out a relaxed sigh. They stayed like that for a few peaceful moments before Zoey pulled her head back looking around, “Wait, where is Rumi?”
“With Celine,” Mira paused as anxiety washed over her at Zoey’s concerned expression, “She’s ok,”
“She better be,” Zoey said as her body turned eyes on the opening in the hall that led to Celine’s room.
“Please just, take it easy, you can’t watch her every second,” Mira said, seeing the fear in Zoey’s eyes whenever they weren't on Rumi.
Zoey shook her head as tears started to fall down her cheeks in a silent sob, making Mira just squeeze tighter. Assuring her girl that she’s not going anywhere, cooing and whispering little assurances as they stood there for a time.
“I want to take it down. Go through what we found with Rumi, she needs to know everything,” Zoey said before she finally let go.
“Ok,” Mira nodded and they started peeling off the papers taped onto the glass and Mira’s frustration rose when a picture of Molly wouldn’t budge. Pulling a little too aggressively she felt a sharp pain on her fingertip and let out a hiss pulling her hand back quickly.
A brush of cool air blew over Mira “What happened?” Rumi said suddenly standing in front of her.
“Nothing, we're just cleaning up a little,” Mira said, a smile curved on her lips automatically at Rumi’s casual display of her demon traits. .
Sniffing the air Rumi steps closer, then takes Mira’s wrist and she pulls her hand up to her face.
It’s then Mira realizes there is a small cut on the tip of her finger, having sliced it on the paper and her eyes go wide, “Rumi, are you ok?”
“I could smell your blood, I felt.. I thought you were hurt,”
“And so you rushed to rescue me?” Mira smiled, feeling a warmth rush through her body.
“Always,” Rumi said, inspecting the tiny cut intensely.
Zoey stepped closer than tentative and Rumi turned to her smiling “You know you can’t sneak up on me anymore.”
“I just didn’t want to scare you… Rumi, are you ok?”
“I’ve patched up your wounds a million times,”
“Of course, but that was before,” Mira said, eyes on Zoey. She wanted to pull her hand back afraid that Rumi would get overwhelmed. That she’d run again.
“I’ll heal it,” Rumi said plainly.
Mira huffed out a laugh at that “Rumi it’s a paper cut, I’ll live,”
“I know but if I can heal you I should,” Rumi said as her gaze locked onto Mira’s patterns pulsing with a lavender hue.
Mira brian short circuited couldn’t find the words to protest because, why would she when Rumi held her hand softly. The touch alone was comforting and the pain was already a distant thought in her mind. Two fangs had already descended just a little and Mira had never had stared at them for so long. Rumi always hid them, by closing her mouth or even using her hand.
“Cool,” Mira said.
“I mean if it's ok,” Rumi said, her eyes wide and she pulled back just a little.
“Oh no, I think I might come down with a sudden case of paper cuts,”
“Ok then,” Rumi huffed a laugh, her breath warm on Mira’s skin, a sensation that went straight to her core.
Rumi slowly leant forward her thumb against Mira palm and fingers along her knuckles; she could smell the venom pooling in Rumi’s mouth. Their leader's eyes focus as if she is performing surgery she wraps her lips around the tip of Mira’s finger. Mira can’t suppress the whine that escapes her mouth when she feels her tongue lap up the tiny bit of blood. Sucking lightly before a quick consoling lick.
“Fuck, I thought first aid was hot in K-dramas, but this is…” Zoey whistled, arching her eyebrows seductively. .
Rumi pulled Mira’s finger back out then and inspected it closely to which Mira rolled her eyes, “What’s the verdict? Amputation?”
“I don’t know. There's no more blood,” Rumi answered as if it were a serious question.
“Let me see?” Zoey asked moving closer her lips around Mira finger she sucked before drawing back, “Tastes like Rumi,” she smiled.
“You're still feeling ok? No nausea or headache?” Rumi asked, her eyes wide with concern.
“I feel good Rumi, physically at least,”
“I’m making breakfast,” Mira said as she walked over to the kitchen a warmth rose within her as the mundane peacefulness of the morning routine was edging nearer.
“To go. I set up a meeting with Bobby,” Rumi said quickly.
“Seriously? That's what you were doing with Celine,” Zoey huffed frustrated.
“We talked about a lot of things, but I want to get this moving,” Rumi said, her serious work mode expression already overtaking her demeanor.
“You couldn’t at least rest for a few more days?” Mira said, pulling open the fridge tensely. She didn’t even want to eat just needed to do something.
Rumi’s hand was on her wrist gently. “I know you’re still mad, and scared but I promise this isn’t what you think.”
--
It really wasn’t what Mira thought.
Mira couldn’t believe she was sitting beside Rumi at Sunlight Entertainment offices and heard what she’d said. Zoey seemed to have a dramatically similar reaction, her jaw dropping open without thought. Even Bobby looks a little thrown. Hadn’t even touched his coffee.
Rumi’s plan was to take time off from touring, from any public appearances and recording. Not for a week, or a month, or a season—a whole year.
Bobby looked so confused but even with this unexpected announcement, he seemed calm. Even happy? Like he knew this was the right call, the right decision for them.
Rumi was sitting hands folded neatly in her lap sitting up straightly “This isn’t the end of Huntrix we will be back, I can promise that,” she said turning to Mira with an encouraging smile then to Zoey, “And I can only speak for myself, if you two want to keep working you should,”
Mira, while still shaken from the scene she was part of, managed to find her voice quickly. “If you're taking a break, I’m definitely taking a break."
Could see out of the corner of her eye Zoey had started squirming but Rumi placed her hand on her leg and she stopped. Rumi asked, “What about you Zoey?” gently, eyelashes fluttering as she seemed to try and read the room.
“Oh my god I’ll finally have time to take you guys on a tour of my second home!” Zoey quite nearly shrieked in excitement. Mira could see her mind was already racing through ideas.
“So, you’re ok with this?” Rumi asked, turning back to Mira.
“I have been begging you to take a break for years,” Mira reminded her dryly.
“Right,” Rumi sighed, relieved. She beamed at the two girls, clearly expecting this to go worse. “Good.”
Zoey rested her head on Rumi’s shoulder and Mira followed suit wrapping her arm around them. Resting her chin on the top of Rumi’s head.
“I’m just worried about the fans,” Bobby said with a gulp.
“We’ll release a statement, they’ll understand. They’ll have too,” Rumi stated before standing with Zoey and Mira to either side of her. .
Bobby let out a contented sigh and didn’t move from his seat. Was he happy about this?
“Is something wrong?” Rumi asked.
“I’m just surprised,” he told her, chuckling to himself. “You really have changed, being sick seems to have been good for you Rumi.”
“It’s been a hell of a week” Mira added her tone dry but something more bitter simmered underneath.
Bobby didn’t know what Rumi had been through, what she and Zoey had been through in the past week. It wasn’t his fault he was ignorant when they kept the truth to themselves. Still it hurt, like salt in the wound.
Just the idea that anything Miyeong did to Rumi had helped her, in any way had Mira feeling nauseous. A despair that Rumi seemed to sense because suddenly her hand was in Mira’s squeezing it tight.
“Thanks Bobby, we appreciate your understanding and support,” Rumi said and she led Mira out to the hall.
Zoey followed behind after a moment and looked around at everyone who passed them with scrutiny standing like she was mid battle.
“So are you two going to be on scary dog security guard duty forever…?” Rumi asked, pulling at Mira’s shirt as she tried to rein in her girls.
“Yes,” Mira deadpanned eyes scanning ahead with Zoey watching their back.
“We are at work, we’re safe here,” Rumi said, slowing her pace a little and Mira just moved in front, tugging her forward.
“Rumi, we don’t know who we can trust… What if there are more sirens?” Zoey said, flanking from behind her eyes, scanning the faces in the halls with scrutiny.
Rumi's lips twitched as if she was about to argue but she just nodded and said “Ok, we can go home,”
Moving through the halls quickly and ignoring any potential interactions with colleagues they quickly exited into the underground carpark. The air was cold and their footsteps echoed through the empty space while they walked in formation. Zoey on the left, Rumi in the middle and Mira on her right, they stayed close as if going into battle.
Suddenly Rumi stiffens at Mira's side, her eyes narrow as she inhales and turns to Zoey who lifted her arms, bracing for a fight. "What's wrong?" Zoey asks.
"I know you're there. Show yourself," Rumi demanded, her eyes sharply focused on the shadows but Mira couldn't see anyone.
Miyeong stepped into the light and Mira’s heart jumped, "Good. You're already getting stronger, more aware of your surroundings,"
"I didn’t need your help,” Rumi said with a growl.
Miyeong smiled fondly moving more into the light, "You know that's not true,"
"Get out of here, someone will recognize you," Mira said, eyes darting around the car park but they were alone.
"I just came to make sure," Miyeong said, her tone edged with a burning jealousy.
"Sure of what?" Rumi asked with a slight frown.
Pausing she let out a breath and stepped closer and when neither of them moved away, she smiled pleased. "That Rumi will feed. It is almost time."
"What? It's only been a day since I last drank. I'm fine," Rumi huffed.
"I told you Rumi, everything you know is wrong, you need blood more often than you think, to bite every few days. Even more when you're hunting, performing," Miyeong said tilting her head up.
"I know when I need it," Rumi responded but Mira felt a fear wash over her and saw it in Rumi’s eyes. She had no idea what she needed to survive.
"Do you?” Miyeong asked mockingly.
A silence slipped in and Miyeong moved as if testing how close she could get and placed her hand on Rumi’s cheek delicately.
Rumi flinched back from her touch and she looked so devastated, Mira almost felt sorry for Miyeong, seeing her face crumble. Still Miyeong quickly recovered from this rejection, letting out a deep breath and her face hardened and she looked up to Mira then Zoey. “If Rumi misses one more feed, if she has even a dizzy spell… I'll be there,"
"So will we," Zoey said through gritted teeth
While her holding body tensed and hands curl into fists until Mira felt the Honmoon react like a drawstring pulled tight. Readying to strike at any moment.
“What do you want from me?!” Rumi screamed and her patterns burned red “Why are you here?”
“I’m here because I want to be with you,” Miyeong said, her smug expression cracked revealing her desperation to be accepted. Forgiven.
Mira stepped closer while Zoey pulled Rumi closer and hand gripped onto the back of her hoodie tensely. “We don’t need your help, I’ll drink when I need it,”
"Rumi, you don't wait until you're starving before you eat a meal, or about to collapse before you lay down to rest and you don't wait until you're weak and frail before you drink blood," Miyeong said firmly.
Rumi stepped forward a little, her arms out protectively and Zoey moved with her like a shadow.
"We won't let her starve," Zoey said firmly.
“But there is still so much you don’t understand, let me help you!” Miyoeng said her voice lowered, unable to keep up her stoic demeanor. Revealing a desperate woman underneath and Mira wasn’t sure what scared her more.
“You’ve helped enough,” Rumi spat, taking Zoey’s hand and Mira’s leading them to their car she pulled the door open.
With even a glance back at Miyeong, Rumi got into the front seat and Zoey climbed into the back. Mira slowly walked around to the other side and watched Miyeong’s pained eyes on Rumi.
"You can go now," Mira said firmly, resisting the urge to make sure she never returned.
To Mira’s surprise when Miyeong's gaze flicked to her she wasn’t glaring, but she saw a glimpse of what seemed to be affection towards her. Then Miyeong stepped back into the shadows and seemingly vanished with nothing but the echo of a laugh.
–-
Rumi gripped the steering wheel with a fire in her eyes as she drove them home, already making a plan of action for the next year and Mira couldn’t help but smile. Should have known that Rumi couldn’t actually take a break. Instead just move her focus from being a demon hunting idol, to being the best vampire she could.
If Rumi was going to embrace this side of herself, she was going to be perfect.
At least this new project was focused on Rumi’s wellbeing, on understanding herself, the abilities and limits of her demon half. Although it was when Rumi mentioned running drills that sounded more like torture experiments that Zoey and Mira had reservations. They walked back into the tower and Rumi had planted herself on the couch in front of the scattered papers they took off the windows. All of Zoey’s research and started categorizing it and making notes.
Long wavey hair down over her shoulders as Rumi crouched on the couch solely focused on her task. Mira’s love for Rumi was constant with every breath because she was so utterly gorgeous and completely infuriating.
That was ok though, that's why Rumi had them. Mira was sure now of her strength, to love, to push Rumi, remind her, to take care of herself and she marched forward.
“Rumi, you need to actually take a break on your break,” Mira said, planting herself in front of Rumi, arms folded.
“Sit with me,” Rumi said, holding out her arms for Mira to climb into her lap.
Rumi had her loving arms open for her and as much as Mira wanted to jump into her lap, she didn’t budge. Not willing to let this go, Mira just folded her arms and raised her eyebrows pointedly.
“We need to talk about Miyeong,” Zoey said, walking over from the kitchen, arms overflowing with snacks.
“I know, we will and I do plan to relax, and we can talk about whatever you want, feeding schedules, my dead eomma, being undead, or you could explain to me why Zoey has written down, ask Rumi if she can turn into a bat?” Rumi finished with a chuckle while shaking her head at Zoey.
“All equally important topics,” Mira deadpanned.
“Mira, why don’t you tell Rumi what happened with uh -” Zoey frowned trying to recall something then her eyes lit up, “Noah,” she said, sitting down next to Rumi.
“Who’s Noah?” Rumi asked, her eyes narrowed sitting up straighter.
“Mira went and found that vampire that attacked her, alone,” Zoey said, eyebrows raised pointedly.
Mira let out a deep breath and could feel the edge to Zoey’s comment, still pissed that Mira took on the demon without backup. “He said that I, that me and Zoey had to claim you,”
“You already have,” Rumi said, a little confused but clearly teasing as Zoey came dropping an overflowing amount of snacks she carried in her arms on the table.
“I’m being serious. This, Noah, he must have been working with Miyeong as well, he said we could call Rumi to us, if we needed,” Mira said quietly feeling uncomfortable by the implications alone.
“Really, huh that explains it,” Rumi said, eyes wide as if she just put pieces together.
“What does?” Zoey said with an amused huff.
“I’ve always felt this light tug, but it's gotten stronger now that I'm back, now that I’ve… Bitten you both,” Rumi said like a confession.
Zoey looked up at Mira with a confused and somewhat questioning look.
“I haven't felt any different,” Mira said confused.
“Its a natural pull, you control it about as much as you control your heartbeat, our connection is constant energy flowing… Keeping me alive,”
“What happens if this connection breaks, if you can't drink from us,” Zoey said, hand gripping Rumi’s forearm tensely.
“I’ll die,” Rumi said, meeting her eyes.
“Yesterday when you said you couldn't survive without us, I thought you were just exaggerating," Zoey said, mouth gaped open in horror.
“No, it’s only you two I can feed off now, a bond that can’t be broken,” Rumi explained, smiling as if that could ease their concerns.
“So you weren't being dramatic, you were being honest," Mira said, realizing that they would have to get used to this new side to Rumi.
Rumi reached out her hand and this time Mira stepped closer taking a seat by her side. “Sorry I thought you understood, that's why I know Miyeong won’t actually separate us,”
“Rumi wait, this is huge,” Zoey got to her feet, mouth gaped open.
“Is it?” Rumi frowned nestling further into the couch cushions.
“What if something happens to us, then you’ll-” Zoey's voice broke off.
“You say that like I’d want to live without you,” Rumi said hand on Zoey cheek thumb brushing her skin tenderly.
“Rumi… People think that but this is different,” Mira said the words and her stomach dropped, her chest heaving as the weight of it sank in.
“Don’t worry nothing is going to happen to you, I won’t let it,” Rumi insisted, squeezing Mira’s hand lightly and a rush of calm washed over her.
“Thats not, It’s just a lot. That your survival depends on us,” Zoey said, wide eyed and Rumi’s arm wrapped around her pulling her into her chest.
Mira couldn’t even take in a full breath her chest heaving and she felt Rumi’s grip on her hand loosened, “Mira, please breathe,” Rumi said, moving her hand over Mira’s heart as if she could make it to obey her.
Zoey had the same look in her eyes, when Celine first told them about the Honmoon. This fear was even more visceral. Then realizing that they were all that stood between the world and the demons that wanted to consume every soul.
“I’m sorry, this is a lot that's why I didn’t want to do this, I knew that I'd have to rely on you, that it wasn’t fair,” Rumi said with her shame clear on her face but she didn’t pull back, only leaning in closer.
“So you starved yourself instead,” Mira said and caught the warning look in Zoey’s eyes and flinched back.
“Mira I-” Rumi stuttered.
“I’m sorry.. I’m not trying to make you feel bad. But I do need to know is what Miyeong said today true, about needing blood every few days,”
“I don’t know, to be honest I don’t know what I need, but I’m not going to wait until I’m starving, I promise,”
Mira raised her eyebrows showing her disbelief and Rumi nodded “You have no reason to trust me, but I’m never going to put you in that position again, that you can believe, right,”
“Ok,” Mira nodded.
A sigh of relief was evident in the air. They all settled into something calmer that they were able to talk like this, to be really honest.
“I just don’t want to take more than I need, you're my girlfriend’s.. Use you like a blood bag,” Rumi said with disgust.
“You know that’s kind of insulting,” Zoey said with only a little teasing in her tone as she leaned in closer facing Rumi.
“How?” Rumi said clearly bewildered.
“You think we have no free will, we gave you our consent, we know what we want,” Zoey said before resting her head on Rumi’s shoulder.
Rumi hummed happily, “I never imagined it would be like this, didn’t think I was capable of-
“Of what?” Mira asked when Rumi didn't finish her thought.
“To love, for that part of myself, the demon thirsting for blood, to be… tender or gentle, to heal," Rumi said, letting out a small awed sigh.
“You’ve always loved so hard, that's why it was so confusing when you’d hide from us, keep your distance,” Mira said as her mind felt more at ease.
All those times Rumi shut down, was suddenly quiet and would slip into her room alone for the night. The private change room and the secret trips with Celine, she wasn’t rejecting Mira or Zoey, only herself. The truth was healing but also devastating to know how long Rumi suffered alone.
“I’m sorry,” Rumi said again and the words were starting to feel like too much and she could no longer stand to hear Rumi so
“I wasn’t trying to- I just letting you know we understand that you were pulling away to protect us because you love us,”
“Yeah Rumi you love so hard, really it's embarrassing,” Zoey teased before she started kissing her neck.
“Oh I can stop if you want?” Rumi said with a teasing chuckle, “Tone it down a little,
“No never,” Mira said seriously, wrapping her arms around them both.
--
Lungs burning, sweat dripping off her forehead while her muscles ached and Mira felt better than she had in weeks as the beat from the speakers pounded in her chest. Completely lost in the movement her mind was playing moments of the last few weeks over in her mind. A cathartic feeling washed over Mira with every tight precise spin or sway of her hips.
Others like to punch things or talk it out and those outlets definitely helped Mira, but dance was always where she was able to dig deep into her feelings. Let all her fears, doubts and the love that drove it, all be expressed freely.
They had been in the studio all afternoon and Mira could see out of the corner of her eyes Rumi and Zoey were slowing down. Starting to lose focus and missed steps, while making silly faces at each other.
Just as Mira was about to take a break, she heard a squeak, the sound of rubber shoes sliding on the floor followed by a tumble, then a thud. Inhaling a sharp breath Mira spun around as Zoey let out a cheeky chuckle.
“Zoey, you did that on purpose,” Rumi grumbled playfully, laying on top of Zoey who was on her back under Rumi.
“I tripped,” Zoey said with a faux sense of offense.
“Time for a break,” Mira said, leaning down and offering Rumi a hand not able to quiet the part of her mind that wondered how Rumi fell.
“... Why don’t we spar a little,” Zoey said with a grin.
Mira sighed knowing that even if Zoey had purposely swept Rumi off her feet, she should have gotten up by now. Instead Mira offered her a hand and Rumi took it shakily getting back up on her feet. “Tommorow, we are done for today,” Mira said meeting Zoey’s eyes and she tilted her head pointedly and Mira only hoped she understood.
“Oh right, we need to fuel up,” Zoey said with an acknowledging nod.
Rumi nodded with only a small note of confusion on her features but she didn’t pry, just turned and walked to the door.
Eyes watching Rumi closely as they made their way back up to the main house, her bare arms were still a sight to get used to. Toned and her patterns pale, no clear signs of fatigue in her stance. Mira only felt a rising desire to stroke her hand along every curve.
A desire rising in her that felt like a physical pull towards Rumi and Mira leaned into it, sure that it was another indication of Rumi’s hunger. Every breath was driving her higher, pumping her veins full of adrenaline.
“Why don’t I make a snack, I feel like noodles,” Zoey said, not taking her eyes off Rumi as she walked backwards into the kitchen.
“Yes, best post workout food,” Rumi said, letting out an exhausted breath. Seemingly oblivious as Zoey dramatically wiped her sweat from her forehead and fanned her neck with her hand.
Mira huffed amused but her anxiety was rising while Zoey practically dished herself up on a plate for Rumi and she hadn’t even noticed. Rumi lifted her water bottle to her lips, gulping it down as Zoey took out three noodle cups and placed them on the bench. Mira turned to Rumi sharing a smile and she could see the same memory in her playing back in her eyes.
Their first date.
It was so perfect and Mira still couldn’t believe they were going to have countless more moments just like that. Smirking at each other, Rumi fingers interlocked with Mira’s as they leaned on the bench eagerly awaiting their snack.
“Don’t forget to add chilli oil,” Rumi said, watching Zoey with an amused smile that devolved into something hungrier.
Rumi’s eyes followed Zoey closely as she leaned in over the bench. Mira could see the vein in Rumi’s neck pulsing and her eyes dilated. In her sports bra and shorts Zoey was a beautiful sight and Rumi let out a small growl, "Rumi?" Mira chuckled, “You going to pounce on her,”
Rumi eyes went wide and her cheeks reddened "I’m a little um, I think I need some-”
Mira nodded and her eyes met Zoey’s intently. “Tell us what you need Rumi,” She said, feeling a wash of relief flood through her veins.
“I mean, I need to drink,” Rumi stuttered out. “Drink blood,”
"You don't need to be shy, we want to do this for you," Zoey said with a wide smile flicking the kettle off.
"I know, it's ok. I'm ok," Rumi said too fast.
"Should we sit?" Mira said, trying to mask how intensely her heart was pounding.
"Right now?" Rumi asked, pointing to the noodles.
"Rumi, yes now, come on,” Mira said as her hairs stood on end wondering where they should go.
Where Rumi would feel safe.
Rumi kept her eyes on Mira walking backwards down the hall to Mira’s room and she followed her, like a moth to a flame. Standing in the doorway Mira realized they hadn't all been in here since the morning Rumi left and she felt her blood pressure drop. “Are you sure?” Mira asked.
“Yes I’m sure,” Rumi said smiling encouragingly, “I'm sorry I ruined it, our first, time.. I don’t want you to hate this room, this is your space and we shared something special here, I want to be in here with you,” Rumi said.
“You didn’t ruin anything,” Mira said, tears welling in her eyes as she directed Rumi over to sit on the edge of the bed and assumed she would be the one Rumi would bite this time.
"It’s my turn,” Zoey said, arms at her sides as she pouted in the doorway.
“What? Zoey you got bitten last time,” Mira responded, in a high pitched tone.
Zoey puts on her best sulky voice, “That didn't count, I was barely conscious,”
“Fine,” Mira huffed, too relieved that Rumi was willing to bite and drink. She let it go. For now.
“You are fighting over whose turn it is?” Rumi said teasingly as she shuffled back on the bed dangling her legs off the edge.
“Sorry, Rumi,” Zoey said, not at all apologetic, “Where do you want me?”
Zoey stepped closer quickly. Too quickly it seemed because Rumi flinched back slightly. They all froze then, as Rumi closed her eyes taking a few deep breaths. “It's ok, I just don't know what to do, this is just so weird right?”
"It's fine, take your time," Mira said, her hand wrapping around Rumi’s softly.
“Tell us what you need, how can we make it easier for you?” Zoey said, stepping further back.
“What do I need?” Rumi asked her eyes lost in thought for a moment, “I never thought about that,”
“We can keep as much distance as you want,” Zoey said.
“No, no I want you close,” Rumi said sitting up and she reached out her other hand to Zoey who took it and she was pulled onto the bed, beside Rumi. “Both of you,”
“We can turn the lights on, or leave them off? Anything you want?” Mira said, feeling a wash of heat pulsing through her, as the atmosphere changed.
More electric, playful and Rumi’s eyes darkened slightly.
“It helped, the first time, when you held me and talked to me, it calmed me, can you do that again?”
“Sure,” Zoey leaned in tentatively and rubbed her thumb on her forearm “How's that?”
Rumi let out a shaky breath and purred a sound that seemed to surprise herself. Mira hummed happily, “You really do like that, what about this?” She said brushing her knuckle against Rumi's throat and she leaned into it while tilting her head, to give Mira more access.
“More,” Rumi gasped and put her hand on Mira’s wrist gently “Can I?”
“Of course, wherever you want me,” Mira sighed, still running her free hand along Rumi’s neck.
Rumi smiled subtly, directing Mira's other hand around her waist to her back and up her shirt. Mira’s hand touched hot skin. Could feel the trembling stop as soon as she began rubbing circles on Rumi’s back. Then a glowing purple light flickered along Rumi’s patterns as a calming scent filled the air.
Zoey was tugged closer by Rumi by her shirt and Mira expected them to start kissing but Rumi just inhaled deep. A breath that was staggered, controlled.
Restrained.
“Let go, baby,” Mira crooned
Zoey drew her nails through Rumi’s hair and she reacted immediately leaning into the light scratching, almost like a cat. Mira felt the urge to move forward and kiss her lips but focused on rubbing calming circles along her back. One hand still stroking along Rumi’s neck and cheek softly.
Rumi closed her eyes and after a moment purred again, longer and more pronounced.
“Rumi, you're a kitty,” Zoey beamed excitedly.
“Tiger,” Mira stated as the heat pooled in her gut and her core was starting to throb.
Rumi nodded as Zoey shuffled closer to her hand in constant movement as she found Rumi’s thigh and she rested it there. At this touch Rumi let out a stuttered breath, as her eyes shot open and Zoey drew her hand back abruptly.
“No, no it's ok, that was-” Rumi's words faded to a pleased sigh.
“Ok,” Zoey smiles, placing her hand back on Rumi’s leg.
“Maybe you should lie back Zoey?” Mira added, as she felt desire ripple through her at the thought.
“Would that be easier Rumi? If we lay down?” Zoey asked just as Rumi's hand went to her right shoulder and she turned pushing Zoey back onto the bed. While Mira’s touch didn’t leave Rumi, rubbing slow circles on her back.
Letting out a shaky breath, Mira gulped, desperate to be the one Rumi was about to dig her fangs into. Wanting more touching, a fierce drive to hear Rumi purr again.
Rumi’s eyes were fully dilated and squarely focused on the beads of sweat trickling down Zoey’s neck as she crawled up over her. Then she just hovered there, panting with a hand at the side of Zoey’s head. “Where do you want to bite?” Zoey asked breathlessly.
“Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” Rumi said with an awkward smile.
“Up to you, it heals anyway,” Zoey said sadly.
“You say that like you want me to leave a mark on you,” Rumi said, huffing out a laugh.
“Can you?” Zoey smiled eyes wide, her hands gripping Rumi’s waist tugging her closer.
“I don’t know, let's just see if this works first,” Rumi said shakily.
“Whenever you're ready,” Mira said, restraining the urge to just push Rumi closer to Zoey. On edge waiting for the moment that had been building over the last few days, was finally here.
The world seemed to pull taught around them and Mira held her breath automatically.
Rumi shivered while the patterns along her arms fluctuated between a faint lavender and glowing blue shimmer. Mira could smell the venom, before she saw Rumi’s fangs slip out of her lips.
Zoey squirmed in excitement which resulted in Rumi pausing and Mira could feel her last stands of patience feigning. Anxiety at its peak, her heart was pounding, “Keep still,” Mira said, not even sure if it would help but she was so afraid Rumi would stop. That this wouldn’t work.
It had to work.
Nodding her head Zoey became stiff and Rumi leant in closer, lips almost touching skin, but she didn’t bite, turning her head, a question for Zoey in her eyes. “Shoulder,” Zoey said, letting out a staggered breath.
“Are you sure?” Rumi gulped.
“Rumi,” Mira groaned, frustration burning under her skin as Rumi kept finding ways to prolong this. Mira closed her eyes then focused on slowing her racing heart.
“If I hurt you?” Rumi said and Mira slowly opened her eyes again and smiled at them.
“You haven't, and you won’t,” Zoey said with a stern sense of certainty and Rumi responded to it by tenderly brushing her forehead against Zoey’s neck.
“She’s yours,” Mira whispers in Rumi’s ear, “Now bite, like a good girl,”
Rumi hissed shakily, not territorially, just a surrender as one hand cradled Zoey’s left check and jaw softly, she bit into her right shoulder. Mira's whole body relaxes as Rumi fangs sink into Zoey’s skin and it feels so natural and right. Immediately moans of satisfaction tumble out of Zoey’s mouth while Rumi sucked and lapped up the blood.
A touch that remains gentle as Rumi’s body stiffens, holding Zoey still and Mira keeps rubbing her palm on Rumi’s back. Eyes darting around Mira expected to feel some uncomfortableness but after Zoey almost died. When Rumi’s bite was the one thing that saved her life, everything changed, and Mira felt nothing but pleasure watching over them.
Rumi pulled back slowly and carefully after only a few seconds “That’s enough. How do you feel?” Rumi said, her thumb stroking the side of Zoey’s face.
“No, you need more,” Zoey groaned as her face fell.
“I’m fine,” Rumi said too quickly, too quietly.
“Rumi? Was that really enough?” Mira asks, raising her eyebrows pointedly.
Rumi backs away with a clear hesitation in her eyes and Mira is too scared to move to stop her, afraid she’ll disappear again. But Zoey isn't; she just smiles and doesn't say a word leaning forward; she gently clasps Rumi's jaw. Looking at her fangs with infatuation and adoration she wont let Rumi pull away. “Your so beautiful,”
Rumi kept eye contact, Zoey slid her thumb along Rumi’s fangs and captured some of the venom that remained. Mira looked over her eyes at them, the fangs dripping as she was transfixed. All she wanted was to feel her digging under her skin but Zoey was letting up, moving her hands up and cupping Rumi's face. Zoey met Rumi’s lips in a tender kiss, slowly deepening it.
Rumi was completely at Zoey’s mercy letting her lick the venom from her lips before pulling back just a little and Rumi whined. “Unnie, you take more,” Zoey crooned.
Skilfully diverting Rumi’s mouth to her shoulder and Rumi obeys without hesitation. Fangs back out; she dragged them along her skin trying to find the right placement, before they dug in once again. Zoey let out a satisfied moan placing one hand behind Rumi’s head while the other reached for Mira’s hand and she squeezed it tight.
Watching them was getting Mira wet. Soaking at the sight of them, so lost in each other and feeling her love for them both only burn brighter. Mira instinctively leant closer kissing Rumi’s neck. But as lips touched her skin Rumi pulled back abruptly, as if broken out of a trance. “Mira” Zoey groaned as Rumi unlatched.
“What I-I didn’t mean to, Rumi keep going,” Mira gasped.
“Zoey, are you ok?” Rumi asked breathlessly.
“No, you barely fed, Mira got way longer,” Zoey groaned.
“Right, so you're upset I didn’t drink your blood long enough, not if it hurt or if you were feeling lightheaded?” Rumi asked, her thumb brushing Zoey’s cheek as she looked for signs of distress.
“That barely tickled, I wish you could understand how this feels Rumi,” Zoey smiled wide. “Much better then post workout ramyeon,”
“Don’t lie to me,” Rumi said, her eyes on Zoey's shoulder. It wasn't as clean as previous bites but there was no blood or redness around the small cut.
“I’m not!” Zoey frowned at the accusation, “Your venom is like a dose of joy, I can feel in my soul,”
“What does that even mean?” Rumi scoffs.
“It means, I want you to bite me, again and again,” Zoey’s serious tone dropped. She was more coy, a wolfish smile on her lips.
Rumi blushes leaning down, she licks at the bite and Zoey lets out a deflated groan while Rumi sucks and licks at her skin until she is satisfied it’s healed. “For me it feels different,” Rumi kisses Zoey’s neck before drawing back just a little, “there’s a constant flow of energy and it suddenly intensifies and-
Stopping Rumi, expression conflicted and moves to lay at Zoey's side looking up at Mira, “In that moment it burns and I want to devour, and that terrifies me,”
“Rumi,” Zoey sighs guilty.
“You don’t know your limits, we can take this as slow as you want,” Mira said, her hand reaching out to Rumi’s.
They lay still and Mira snuggles in beside Zoey still holding onto Rumi hand and the ache to be touch-bitten doesn’t fade. Her need for more and she lets out a sigh, letting herself feel it with no shame.
Mira's eyes are on Rumi’s fangs. She wants it so desperately but she can’t ask, not now they have already pushed Rumi so far. Mira could see it in her eyes, the fear, Rumi is easily spooked and Mira couldn’t handle her bolting again. “You did good Rumi,” she said with a smile that quickly faded.
“It’s not true is it though? What Zoey said before about not hurting you two,” Rumi paused fidgeting with her hands “I haven't been clear, I need to be, I think that's important,”
“Clear about what?” Mira asked, turning to Zoey she saw concern in her eyes.
“I'm not going to leave again, I can't… I mean, I don't have the strength,” Rumi said, looking between them both.
Mira raised her eyebrows somewhat relieved, but couldn’t suppress that part of her that doubted Rumi’s resolve.
Then her eyes stared into Mira’s so loving and sincere and Mira’s heart melted like wax. Rumi let out a sigh before she spoke again, “Seriously. Your stuck with me, you don’t need to walk on eggshells or-”
“Ok then, it's your turn to do the dishes,” Mira stated with a smirk as another burning slither of anxiety deep in her heart healed.
Rumi just frowned, lifting her head up, “What?”
“The dishes, no one's done them for a few days, it's your turn,” Zoey said, tracing circles along the patterns exposed on Rumi’s arm.
“That's what you want me to do? Wash up,” Rumi responded somewhat disappointed as if annoyed they could give her a more trying task.
“Yes,” Zoey said with a tender smile. “Rumi, we don’t want you to feel ashamed or guilty anymore either,”
Rumi furrowed her brows shaking her head adorably confused, “But I just disappeared, you didn't even know if I was alive, you must have been tearing yourselves apart and, what, you want me to do the dishes,”
“Rumi, you’ve suffered enough," Mira said, placing her hand on Rumi’s cheek and stroking her thumb along her skin
“It doesn’t make it, ok” Rumi responded, looking at them with wide guilty eyes.
Zoey leaned in closer to Rumi until her face was buried in her shirt and Mira thought back for a moment on all the suffering they had all been through. “I need to stop letting my fear control me too," Mira said, with a gulp thinking about Celine, how she let her fears control her and it led to tragedy.
Rumi placed her hand over Mira’s soothingly, "You need reassurance, it’s my job to give you that,"
“On second thought, come here, I think there are other ways you can make it up to us,” Mira said, sitting up a little and leaning over Zoey.
Rumi smiles leaning in kissing her intensely like she had that night right after feeding and Mira feels so loved. Venom lingers in Rumi’s mouth that Mira purposely laps it up with her tongue and the sensation hits her even faster this time. Mira whimpers out a moan as the pleasant feeling drives right through to her core. Pulling back only after her lungs started to burn needing air but the venom lingers and eases any pain in a few breaths.
"So hot," Zoey gasps her eyes dark looking up at them.
Rumi eyes go wide squaring in on Zoey with hunger in them but she pulls back, as if afraid she will lose control. "It's ok Rumi, if you want more?" Zoey said pleased.
"I do… I can feel it," Rumi said, biting her lip with her fang in a way that had Mira choking on her own breath.
Zoey shook her head smiling adoringly up at Rumi "I knew it… Go one then,” she encouraged pulling Rumi closer, legs wrapping around her in a koala-like hold.
Rumi didn’t restrain herself this time, opening her mouth wide and biting down lower on Zoey’s shoulder while she cradled Rumi’s head. Zoey looked up at Mira then a blissed out smile on her face and Mira could feel her core starting to throb.
“Fuck, my girlfriends are so hot,” Mira breathed out with a wide smile on her face.
A firm grip latched on to Mira’s shirt pulling her in close enough for her lips to meet the nap of Rumi’s neck. A buzz beneath Mira’s skin pulled her into a daze of pleasure and she closed her eyes letting touch guide her. Zoey’s fingers slid along Mira’s jaw and through her hair before running down her back.
Mira felt a rush, a love that used to terrify her, sure that it wouldn’t last, but Zoey and Rumi were still here after everything. This was real, they are Mira’s family. No doubts in her mind now as she rubbed along Rumi’s back while she drank from Zoey. Mira eventually pulled back eyes caught in a loved up daze and Zoey looked smug. A slight quirk at the corner of Zoey’s lips and Mira surged forward meeting Zoey’s lips in a searing kiss. Letting herself drown in this feeling knowing she would breathe easy from now on.
Rumi slowed to a stop after another minute, slowly pulling back before she started kissing along Zoey’s shoulder, her patterns shimmering a glow as gentle as Rumi’s bite. Mira could feel the difference in Rumi’s aurora, knowing that for the first time in her life she was truly full and satisfied. “Mhmm, that was-” Zoey voice cut off as she let out a pleased sigh, “Way better the ramyeon,”
Rumi huffed a laugh that dissolved into a chuckle as she lay back down beside Zoey, her hand curled around her waist. Neither of them moved or spoke for a moment, they didn’t need to, so much was said in this silence. Mira felt the warm buzz around them as the Honmoon formed a second layer of protection. Rumi purred as Zoey continued to stroke her long wavy hair as they curled up to each other, in their sanctuary.
Almost drifting off, Mira couldn’t quite get comfortable enough to sleep, still in her workout gear “Shower time,” Mira mumbled, before sitting up slowly after catching the smell of her own sweat.
“Together?” Zoey questioned with a grin, eyebrows raised.
Mira smiled at her reaching out her hand to them, "That's what I meant,”
--
Mira let out a burp feeling completely stuffed. She rubbed her belly in an attempt to soothe it before shaking her head as Rumi offered her another mouthful. “I’m done, I can’t eat anymore,”
“Weak,” Zoey teased with a grin.
Mira smiled a calm had settled in her as they sat on the floor after having cooked up most of the food in the fridge and eaten it. It was a soothing kind of warmth that made her drowsy, or the fact that sleep meant bed. Bed meant cuddles with them “I going to bed,”
“It’s only- oh wait it’s already past midnight,” Zoey said with a deflated huff.
“More cuddles,” Rumi mumbled with her mouth still full of kimbap.
“Cuddles, with eyes closed,” Mira said, her eyes half lidded as she dragged her feet back along to her bedroom.
Mira felt Rumi’s hand on her back before she heard her footsteps and smiled, letting her lead her to bed with her eyes couldn't stay open. Safe and whole in Rumi’s arms guided her to bed and pulled the blanket over them. Zoey lumped over the top of them only a moment later, with her arms spayed out and Mira could feel the energy as if it was radiating off Zoey. It felt nice for a minute to have her there, until she started moving again.
“Zoey,” Mira whined affectionately, when Zoey lifted the blanket and squirmed to get underneath it.
Shuffling around to rough and energetic Zoey finally stopped moving, once she had successfully wedged herself between Mira and Rumi. Eyes too tired to remain open Mira hummed pleased, moving to lay on her side, so her arm could reach around them both.
“Night,” Mira said.
“Right yes sleep time,” Zoey words tumbled out and Mira could tell even with her eyes closed Zoey was still wide awake.
“Mhm, night,” Rumi said quietly.
For a good ten seconds they lay still in silence and Mira felt herself drifting off into a peaceful sleep, until Zoey shuffled beside her, restlessly. “What now?” Mira asked dryly.
“So Rumi I was wondering, what do I taste like?” Zoey asked.
Rumi let out a nervous chuckle, “I don’t know,”
“Come on, you do,” Zoey pouted all sultry sweet, as her hand stroked Mira's under the blanket.
Rumi sighed thoughtful “It's hard to explain, more of a feeling then flavour,”
“I bet Zoey tastes like pure sugar and caffeine,” Mira said dryly.
“You probably taste sour,” Zoey shot back.
Rumi chuckled, “Mira is more of a warmth, like a subtle heat and Zoey is all tingly,”
“So you do know?” Zoey said with an excited gasp.
“It’s not exactly a flavour, just sensation, energy and love,” Rumi finished and Mira felt the blanket move as they shuffled underneath it.
“You're so corny Rumi,” Zoey said, in a sultry whisper.
“Love you too,” Rumi responded, completely sincere.
Then Mira heard them, tongues meeting and moaning as the mattress rocked slightly and Mira felt herself being pulled from her drowsy state. “Please, I need to sleep,”
Mira felt a light punch to her shoulder and smiled, her eyes still closed, “I love you both.. Now please go to sleep,”
“We’ll be quiet,” Zoey said with a light chuckle and Mira could still hear them kissing as she drifted off.
