Things i scripted about South Africa (and Africa) that just makes sense
Im a proud xhosa girl in most of my drs and I absolutely adore my country, however, there are things (many things) about the country that I've changed coz I wanna have a better experience being a south african in my drs :)
South Africa's economy and government
⋆ The country is run by a woman president and most members of Parliament are made up of women and members of the lgbtqia+ community. All politicians and members of the government are good people. And of course this is beneficial for the country.
⋆ There's absolutely no history of corruption in the government after apartheid ended, all of them were good presidents and led the country well.
⋆ Apartheid and segregation ended waaaaay earlier.
⋆ Free everything: healthcare, education, water, electricity etc.
⋆ No one is homeless and no one lives in shacks, everyone has a proper roof over their heads.
⋆ South Africa is the richest countries in Africa and one of the richest in the world. Our currency is very strong. The Rand is worth three American Dollars (because why not).
⋆ The average height in South Africa has increased, we need to be taller abeg.
⋆ No potholes, no landfills, no pollution, no abandoned infrastructure. South Africa is clean and cared for all over.
⋆ Very low crime rate, the police do their jobs exceptionally well. Everyone who wears that uniform takes their job seriously.
⋆ no GBV and unemployment crises.
⋆ We're not getting gentrified by digital nomads and our tourism department is forced to benefit the locals and citizens of this country over all else.
⋆ Cape Town isn't the only place tourists visit, there's soooo many beautiful provinces to visit. South Africa is huge and it's well explored.
⋆ South African Vogue (enough said).
⋆ All South African tribes respect, embrace and appreciate each other's differences and similarities and live in harmony.
⋆ South African tribal culture, and in Africa generally, is still very rife and appreciated and practiced without it being looked down on or watered down by western culture or white culture. Very few "coconuts" exist in the country, and continent, as a result because of this and the ones that do exist aren't looked down upon and aren't seen as less than. All south african traditional holidays and ceremonies are widely recognised and respected. Our culture is so rich, it'll never die down or be white washed. We're serious and we make sure to implement our culture in everything.
⋆ All African tribes and cultures are matriarchies and progressive in being accepting of lgbtqia+ individuals, having had queer people among us for millenia, being socialist in general and that's why we thrive.
⋆ Black south africans are called Azanian/Azani.
⋆ Wearing traditional attire casually is the norm.
⋆ All of our african history is well documented by our people, the victors wrote the history books, us. Our oral traditions from ancient times were able to be recorded and passed down through generations because we are so advanced as Africans so theres no missing history that we don't know of.
⋆ We know how to take care of our hair properly and grow it long and healthily without needing to make it look westernised.
⋆ We know how to style and care for our hair properly and healthily in ways that help it grow long and strong.
⋆ White south africans are cool and calm in general, they mind their business for the most part. Most of them even know our languages fluently and pronounce our names like natives and that's been the standard for a long time so it's not novel to Azanians to hear them speak in Azanian languages.
⋆ Our traditional African religions and spiritual practices take precedence over Christianity.
⋆ The F1 track venue in East London never closed and they still host the East London Grand Prix there today (i need my hometown to be relevant somehow).
⋆ South African hip hop, gqom, amapiano, kwaito, pop, house etc is widely recognised and revered as some of the best music in Africa (and the world, honeslty) and South African artists get their tens.
⋆ Africa is the wealthiest continent in the whole world and it is fiercely protected from any other colonial powers trying to exploit it
⋆ We have one of the strongest United armies in the world to fight off colonial powers trying to take over again. Our minerals are cultivated in Africa and produced and distributed in Africa and then exported to the rest of the world. Africa is a large contributor to the world at large in many aspects but we aren't exploited at all. In fact, Africa is so very protected from exploitation that potential colonialists will be detained immediately and sentenced for a long time in prison. Africa is the motherland and it is treated as such.
⋆ There are also no strict borders for African citizens so one can travel all over the continent without the need of a visa
⋆ We have a united currency that we use (like the Euro) and this currency is the strongest in the world
⋆ No conflict amongst any tribes and countries in Africa. We are the most harmonious and happy place on earth. Everyone is proud to be African, from the North, East, West and South
⋆ We prioritise African made art of all kinds (fashion, music, film etc) over those of the west. African innovation comes first
⋆ We have the best universities in the world
