WHEN THE DEAD RISES, IT'S THE DEATH OF CIVILIZATION.
You wake up to the sounds of rustling at the door of the room you were currently resting in. As you focus you hear the scratches and soft groans at the door, a soft sigh leaving your lips. These days corpses were often better than running into the living. Only 2 years deep and the ones who live have had to either resort to drastic ways not in their character or they were always evil and this was their time to let that evil out. So it really was picking the better of two evils in this case.
Thankfully thinking ahead you pushed a dresser up against the door so no matter what was coming in, they needed a lot of strength and force to do so. But even still, you couldn't risk staying and letting the zombie give your spot away to any living near by. You quickly and quietly gather up your belongings in your backpack before making sure you had your guns, knife and police baton. The baton was such a great find, got it off an officer that was stuck under a several car pile up, seemed like he was brain damaged and dead on impact. Younger fella, around your age- maybe mid twenties? After searching his body you saw his name pin
You remember giving him a small apology along side a thank you for the weapons. You kinda got the vibe he might've died helping people, he might not know it but he really helped you even if he wasn't alive. After double checking the room for anything you might've missed, you hopped out the window onto the fire escape. Looking down at the street you noticed it was more crowded than normal. As you reached the top of the stairs you slowed your pace, somehow there was occasionally a few zombies on rooftops. As you peak over the ledge you scanned the top of the building, seeing it was clear you started to make your way across the large area. As you come to the ledge you see the next building is close, maybe a two foot gap but it's downward. You quickly drop down as your feet hit the hard roof, well partially hard. Your left foot must've hit a soft spot, going right through ceiling.
You let out a light scream, hissing at the sudden pain in your lower leg. Your right leg comes to a knee as you drop your bag and grab your baton. You take the butt of the baton and start the break the soft roof around your leg. Once you think you've made the hole big enough you start to move your leg out.
"Ahhh!! Fuck!!" You screamed as you felt something sharp scrapping and cutting the inside of your calf. You stopped, taking your flashlight to see better inside. You see a thin piece of metal in your calf, moving your leg to the left a little, moving the metal out of your leg as much as possible, you reached your hand in and bent the metal out of the way. Taking a second to catch your breath, you finally free your leg from the hole.
Hurting like a son of a bitch, you check the situation. Seeing some bruising start to purple but the only blood was coming from the cut. You could still move you foot, so that had to be a good sign. Looking in your bag you find your spare water, cleanest towel and last few bandages. You painfully wipe the wound of the excess blood with the wet cloth and quickly wrap your leg.
"You better not get infected.." you whisper to yourself, tightening the wrap. You cut off the roll, leaving a little for at least one more wrap before packing everything up. You stand up, let a little weight on the hurt leg, you winced at the pain. "Guess I'll be pimp walking for a bit." You chuckled to yourself as you slowly made your way across the thankfully short yet unstable rooftop.
Looking around there was not other rooftops, just a fire escape down to the street. Not your first or favorite option, but looking down there wasn't as many zombies on this side of the building. You sighed deeply before heading down the ladder to the stairs. Your feet hit the metal grate, looking through the large open window of the room in front of you you find yourself faced with a gun.
