Iāve been thinking a lot today about Derek and Stiles being besties. Specifically, Iāve been thinking about a Derek who has realized he doesnāt want to be in a relationship, and isnāt sure heās even interested in sex. Heās not sure he ever was. Everyone just expected it of him, and he expected it of himself, and so it happened. It wasnāt all awful, but he canāt say he ever got the hype either.
And through all this exploration of himself, through all the healing heās had to do around everything heās been through, Stiles has become his safe place. They both know that he was Stilesās bisexual awakening, but Stiles is blissfully and disgustingly in love with Derekās uncle now, and he knows Derekās sexual history and how much heās been objectified and he doesnāt even jokingly flirt with Derek anymore.
What Stiles does do, once Derek lets him know itās okay, is shower Derek with insane amounts of platonic physical affection. Because he knows that werewolves need physical touch, and that Derek hasnāt had enough of it since he lost his family. Derek confessed to him once that he thinks one of the reasons he had sex when he wasnāt all that into it was just for the chance to be physically close to someone, and now itās like Stiles has made it his mission to make sure Derek never feels that way again.
So itās not unusual for Peter to go hunting for Stiles and find him curled around Derek in his bed, or on their favorite chair on the porch. (Itās not even that big of a chair, Peterās not sure how two grown men comfortably fit in there, but neither of them seem to want to move)
Derekās always grumbling when heās trying to cook because Stiles will drape himself over his shoulder and try to see what heās doing and offer unhelpful advice.
Sometimes theyāll be having a movie night and Stiles will sit between Peter and Derek and hold both their hands. āStiles, this is weird,ā Derek tells him the first time he does it. āWell it shouldnāt be,ā Stiles says, as if that settles it. And Derek leans back so he can meet Peterās eye, and Peter just gives him a look that says āyou know he does whatever he wants,ā so Derek sighs and lets Stiles be a weirdo. Heāll never admit that it feels kind of nice.
And of course thereās the thing where Stiles convinces Peter to build a house on the property with Derek, and then he acts like both houses are equally his, and just flits between the two whenever he pleases. Because he spends so much time at Derekās, well, Peter ends up spending more time there too. Which is uncomfortable for both Peter and Derek for quite awhile, but thenāand Derek definitely doesnāt cry about this at any point, he doesnātāhe kind of gets his uncle back for the first time since before the fire, and it feels like something he never even thought to hope for, and somewhere inside of him his younger self is healed by having that relationship back.
