I understand the appeal of wanting every adult hero to instinctively adopt teenage Peter Parker, but can it really beat the hilarity of acknowledging that at 15 Peter was 5'10", unusually buff, went by a moniker with Man in it, wore a creepy full face mask, and had a tightly guarded secret identity and probably a Queens accent thick enough to have come out of a jello mold, and adult heroes reasonably responded to him by going, âWow, this grown man is an immature asshole for no reason.â
Way funnier to me than adult heroes finding out Peter is a teenager and becoming Concerned is the idea of adult heroes Retroactively finding out Peter Was a teenager because he admits to being like. 22 and theyâre like âHang on youâve been doing this for like. Seven years.â and heâs like âHaha crazy right? Anyway itâs too late for you to yell at me about that because the statue of limitations on that lecture ran out when I turned 18â
YEAH this trope is instantly more tolerable if itâs fully adult Peter being like, *listen up whippersnappers because Iâve been around the block voice* âIâm thirty, andââ and Tony Stark, who vaguely assumed Spider-Man is maybe two years older than him because he just has that energy and hasnât reassessed this for four presidential terms, is like, *drunkenly doing math* âYouâre how manyâ
Okay butâŚthem trying to talk about Old People Stuff with him, not realizing that he wasnât alive to remember xyz thing happening, never used xyz technology bc he didnât exist yet, not expecting him to agree with the fact that some ppl were saying songs they grew up to were oldies, etc
The thing about Peter Parker is that he was raised by senior citizens the way other heroes are raised by wolves. He has the body of an Olympic gymnast and the soul of a malcontented geriatric. This likely contributed to the perpetuation of the accidental ruse.
Itâs when he channels Aunt May so hard he makes it sound like he was personally and immediately affected by McCarthyism that the time traveler fringe theory starts really picking up bets.
Pal, I JUST SAID he was raised by AUNT MAY.
Also not to get real on a ha ha comic post but the elderly are not your enemy. There are old progressives.
Peter has a lot of feelings about the woman that discovered DNA and he strikes me as the kind of person that thinks that distancing yourself from notable figures of history by using their last names is stupid, so heâs going to say something like, âRosalind worked so fucking hard to have that work snatched from her,â immediately followed by, âI woulda thumped him good,â and inspiring Tony and Banner to frantically look through the 1930s and 40s yearbooks at Kingâs College and theorize which one was Spider-Man. Captain America tries reminiscing about the good ole days with him. Peter, for his part, has been absently agreeing and making vague âIâm listeningâ noises about the Rolling Stones and Elton John for the majority of his life, so adding baseball, Duke Ellington, and Ella Fitzgerald to the list wasnât that much of a stretch.
There are only like three genuinely funny additions on this, but this is one of them.
captain america pushing a get out the vote campaign:Â âspiderman did you voteâ
spiderâmanâ at 16: uhhhh so about thatÂ
âIâŚcanât.â âI see. Thatâs why itâs so important to restore voting rights to felons.â
Thatâs made funnier by the fact that I feel like Steveâs natural assumption would be that Spidermanâs a non-citizen, so him jumping straight to felon is like, Peter just has such strong criminal vibes.
Steve: Whatâd you go in for?
Peter, panicking: Jaywalking!
Steve: This prison pipeline needs to stop.
this is the money dog, repost in the next 24 hours and money will come your way!!

Avengers: Endgame (2019) + Letterboxd Reviews + Steveâs Ending
It checks out
early 00s media was the era of the boring girl protagonist and her heavily lesbian-coded bff
teenagers have figured out that you can fake a positive covid test and get out of school using lemon juice and the newspapers sending me push notifications about this seem to expect my reaction to be âoh no those horrible youthsâ when it is in fact âlmao based afâ
adults have spent the last 15 months obsessing over forcing kids back into in-person schooling regardless of the risks and without vaccines or proper mitigation measures and now kids are using the pandemic to fight back against a school system thatâs an oppressive mental health-destroying horror on its best day, and Iâm supposed to think this is a bad thing? idk fellow grups it sounds like you fucked around and found out

What a legend

Bayard Rustin was an openly gay Black man who was Martin Luther Kingâs right hand man. He planned the Million Man March and was subject to scrutiny for his sexuality and deemed a âdeviantâ and âpervertâ.
Bayard Rustin can be found in nearly every picture of MLK yet he has undoubtedly been erased from history. We have to fix that.
Well then, letâs bring that name back.
Bayard Rustin, openly gay, human rights activist, proud black man.
(the guy on the left in case you wondered)
Yeah he was literally the guy who was the head of planning the March on Washington.
If you want to learn more about him, thereâs a great documentary on him called Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin
You can watch the full documentary here (until March 31st, 2016)
I did a research project on him, Ella Baker, Claudette Colvin and Stokely Carmichael comparing their contributions to the Civil Rights Movement to the lack of recognition and misrepresentation they received in commonly used high school American History textbooks. All of these people played major roles in the Civil Rights Movementâalmost on par with MLKâyet they go largely unnoticed or unfairly pushed aside not only during their time, but even now in classes on American History. These men and women deserve to be remembered.
I would also like to add Jame Baldwin to this list: writer, activist, and openly gay black man:
People theyâll never tell you about, may their stories be told now
*learns basic social skills well into my 20s that most people know by the time theyre like 11*
having strict parents will do that to you
Having autism will do that
Having ADHD will do that to you
having social anxiety will do that
being bullied in elementary/middle school will do that
Being isolated as a child will do that.
being abused and neglected will do that to you

so cute
the age old tale
oh my godâŚ
Weâve got an itinerant cheese-selling woman who comes into town every Friday morning to sell the cheeses she purchases from local farms, and I like this old-fashioned way of buying cheese (other people, like the mayor, find it mortifying that our village is too small to support its own cheese shop). She stations herself in the plaza and likes to share news about the farms and villages sheâs visited this week (at the moment we get a lot of baby animal news, like new calf announcements.)Â She has the unfortunate habit of denigrating her own cheeses without meaning to because she is a cheese perfectionist. You ask for a bleu, she grimaces hesitantly and says âAh, poor choice, it doesnât look quite right to me todayâ; or you tell her âI really liked the brie I picked last time, so creamy!â and she shakes her head and goes âAh, you got lucky, often that farmer gives me such shitty brie with a chaulky textureââ then she suddenly looks frustrated with herself, you can tell sheâs thinking âwhy am I giving this information to a client?? Iâm the worst cheese saleswoman ever.â Itâs very endearing.Â
She also sells eggs, and always writes the name of the farmer she got it from on each carton so you can make sure to buy your friendsâ eggs and avoid your enemiesâ eggs. Youâve got to be like âSix Gilbert eggs pleaseâ and publicly announce where your loyalty lies, itâs a whole Thing. If one day you decide to go rogue and ask for Agnès eggs instead you can be sure people will notice, and they will talk. Getting my own chickens is the only way I have found to avoid pledging egg allegiance.
I am OBSESSED with this egg based clique culture
Some things are just extremely French
