"I've noticed, probably now more than ever, when fans like or dislike a character, they insist on putting them in 1 of 2 buckets: they're either a "good" or "bad" person." I've noticed this, too, and I agree about it being shallow and not the best framework to use. IMO, the best characters tend to be more complicated than that, and Cass is *definitely* more complicated than that.
Cass' complexity is exactly what makes her so interesting!
She's complicated and flawed, and it continues to grate me to see people overlook those parts of her, or use them against her in the most predictably bad faith ways. When people are like "oohh she's sooo abrasive :((" or whatever xyz , I'm just like...
Okay... And...?
People will spend all the time in the world extrapolating the smallest things from things we see with Rapunzel and Other Characters to inject more depth into them and their interactions (which is fine, like, let a thousand flowers bloom as they say), but with Cass -- despite the show spoon-feeding viewers all the slights and issues she's experienced over the first 2 seasons -- it's never enough.
There's this tragic lack of curiosity and imagination that viewers lock themselves into when it comes to her, and I'm not unconvinced it's a result of people hearing others scapegoating her as a reason parts of the show were unsatisfying, and internalizing it.
She's unhappy with her current role and the trajectory (plus lack of control) in her life? She should just be grateful she works in the castle and that she was adopted at all (do some of you guys hear yourselves??). She's feels overshadowed and unheard amongst her peers and especially her best friend? She should apparently... suck it up and just listen to Rapunzel because she's the world's most specialist princess?? She gets her hand scorched by magic because Rapunzel started reciting some dangerous incantation? Just... screw Cass, I guess??
(And ftr, RATGT is my favorite part of the series -- Hector bias aside -- because I felt like it did such a good job needling into Cass' grievances and the tension between her and Rapunzel. Like, they were both acting in a life-or-death situation. There's no clear fault here IMO, and I love moments where you can't (shouldn't?) put blame on 1 single character when everyone is acting under duress. But people's eagerness and gall to be like "oh Cass should have just known better and not to touch Rapunzel lol idiot" is such an insanely forced take to me.)
There's no fault here, but Cass has every right to feel angry and devastated about this injury. It's undermined so much of her own goals and training, and now she has to adapt to it. Her dreams hinge on her ability as a warrior in combat, and she touched Rapunzel because she was afraid for her and the entire party. Like, as someone who deals with chronic pain to the point I can't even draw as comfortably or as often as I'd like to as an artist... I can relate with how maddening her injury is LMAO
As an aside/for the record, I still imagine Cass as adopted, but I do ignore the Gothel twist and I draw exclusively from her pre-established S1 and S2 motivations. (I just hate the Gothel & Dark Prince twists so much. I hate it when everyone is related in a story. Unnecessary and ZZZ but anyway lmao--) The Gothel twist just feels like a vestigial remnant of the og pitch and I have a few more thoughts on it, but anyway--
Cass has done things that are wrong. But her motives and actions feel relatable given where she's coming from textually (and subtextually - like if you want to go a step further and examine potential sexism etc in Corona, even if it's not as overtly hard-baked into the culture, I can imagine it still lingers in society). There's a post I just reblogged that articulates what I'm trying to say here pretty well, and I just think people need to think about this more too.
There's more I want to say - like... touching upon characters with complicated or messy pasts. Eugene, Varian, Lance, literally all the dads in the show lmao. Hector was outright murderous and described as "sadistic" (a very fun, loaded word to have in a kids show btw) and maybe because he was a side/supporting character but no one seems to linger on that. People need to be able to engage with the moral complexity -- let characters be messy, recognize that human relationships and people usually are complicated.
I'll wind down my response here (and ty for humoring me if you made it this far). I just don't see people be willing to give Cass the same grace they give other characters, and the, like, double standards just get to me so much LMAO.
her imperfections are so fascinating to me. her anger, the way she buries it, her favoring of coronaâs system, sort of trying to rebel against said system but really only aiming for a higher position within it, her internalized ableism, her internalized homophobia, the way she lashes out but also keeps too much inâŚ
sheâs just a wonderful character.
A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previou
Letâs fucking go
This is HUGE.
1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.
2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.
3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."
4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.
TL;DR Google reeeeeally stepped in it this time.
Any varian headcanons you have (tts and/or vat7k (preferably vat7k if you must choose)) may you put here? Ive been through your page multiple times solely for your headcanons on him and wanted to see if you had any new ones or anything
Thank you !!!!!!!!
you are welcome!
funnily enough, i think this is the first time anyoneâs specifically asked me for varian headcanons. itâs because i post about varian all the time, but still.
-i mentioned him having a lisp when he was younger, but i think he also had a stammer. the two things arenât a universal headcanon for all of my varian-variants, but itâs worth considering. (when i say âstammerâ, i donât mean the kind where a person repeats the first sound in a word, but more along the lines of repeating the first few words in a sentence. there are a lot of difficulties people can have with speech.)
(while stumbling over your words is very common and normal, varian does it a lot in the show. it feels a bit mean-spirited to write all the examples out, even though i mean them as examples and not mockery, but i think you can recall those instances. itâs very easy for me to imagine a younger him doing so to a greater extent, and possibly halting his speech as his mind gets too full of words for them to get out properly.)
-varian was furious about being short for years, yet eventually learns to tolerate his height. as he heals from his trauma, he stops seeing people as threats. if someone is a danger, heâll of course respond accordingly, but heâs got a large circle of people who care about him. most of them are very tall. he gets to be securely enveloped in their hugs. if he was taller, they wouldnât feel as cozy. (also: tall boyfriend.)
-he has a horrendous fear of heights after all the times heâs nearly fallen to his death. nuru had to take charge in her introductory episode for plot reasons, but also because the room was full of wind pushing them against the ceiling, and varian had his eyes too tightly closed to be of use.
-i believe this oneâs from @.visionaryrevived, but: varian and hugoâs house would be full of nooks, crannies, and secret passageways. they either built the whole house by themselves, or are always making new additions.
thatâs all for now, i think :) feel free to ask again in a little while!
"Varian brought it on himself by getting involved with the black rocks and experimenting on them, he should have listened to Quirin when he told him to stay away."
WE COLLECTIVELY ARE GOING TO FIGURE IT OUT đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤
and in âqueen for a dayâ, she says âi havenât forgotten our agreementâ.
which, 1: looks so doubtful due to the amount of non-plot-relevant episodes.
2: that was part of the promise varian mentioned. it wasnât just the promise she made during that episode, but the one before. she led him to believe that he wouldnât be the only one trying to stop the rocks from taking over the kingdom.
(this is not rapunzel hate! the writing casts her in a bad light without acknowledging her real flaws. besides, she did try to work on the problem eventually, but the time it took her to do so does matter and have consequences.)

This is so random but something Iâve thought about since literally season two of tangled the series released is that in the song âNext Stop Anywhereâ during their little travel montage, they go into a cave that has a ton of amber. Like, normal amber, not fucked up magic amber. But after everything with Varian itâs both so funny and so fucked uo to me that this was one of their stops. Like.
Whose fucking idea was this. Thatâs diabolical. Who on the writing team made this call.
It also makes me think of all those âVarian is brought along for season twoâ aus and like. Can you fucking imagine. I mean realistically, they would just skip that stop if Varian was there I HOPE. But. Can you imagine.
i think about this all the time.
rapunzelâs smile not so much as faltering as she looks at it? haunting.
it is, like you said, the writersâ choice, but she has enough of a track record with toxic positivity and burying her emotions that i could see this as a setup for an episode exploring her guilt.
(her guilty feelings for the role she played, which is only one role in that situation. iâm not condemning her entirely.)
hurting ur friend with a really sad headcanon likeÂ
@theabolisolation dis u?
happy twelfth night everybody, remember to celebrate by: experiencing a shipwreck; crossdressing; entering a gay love triangle; duelling with swords; getting your identity horribly mistaken or just wearing some yellow stockings
Hey if you See This can you reblog this or comment on this with a character you headcanon as aromantic, asexual, or both. It can be canon it can be founded on absolutely nothing I just need more aroace stuff on here #yay
varian of âtangled: the seriesâ fame. (also âvarian and the seven kingdomsâ. sort of.)
he simply has those vibes. that biromantic-asexual swag.
hugo would very nervously ask him if he wants to do it and varian would fling black, grey, white, and purple powders into the air one by one. they would cascade down in a shimmering waterfall of asexual sparkles. varian would point at them and shrug with an âainât that just the wayâ expression.
obviously, the way eugene bursts in with the guards, shouting âget him!â about varian, is awful and needed much more work to feasibly be in-character.
thereâs also a few lines of this:
it is very messed up.
just to get this out of the way: iâm not saying that eugene is abusive or would ever be a source of fear for children. this is a critique of the writing, not the moral fiber of one of the characters.
iâm saying that the plot of the episode revolves around stealing, and the former thief is not so much as contemplated as someone to possibly bring along. in fact, varian views him as yet another frightening obstacle.
(even after hearing, and most likely recognizing, his voice, varian doesnât lose the expression until rapunzel accidentally wallops him with the book.)
(^ incoming book)
the orphaned child trying to steal something to survive (because quirin is his only hope for a guardian, everyone in the castle is connected to frederic, frederic wants him dead/imprisoned, etc) is hiding from eugene! eugene fitzherbert! because varian doesnât trust him!
afterward, eugene never fully earns that trust. he never reflects on whatever part he might have played in all this. yes, he talks about how nice it feels to trust varian again, but he never puts any work in.
that mischaracterization is utterly brutal.

asks are back on this week :)
YESSSSSSSS
my poor, sad little urchin.
you never actually knew me at all
I didn't realize just how short Varian is until I considered the fact that Rapunzel is apparently 5'1 and he is like. Shorter than her. Like holy crap how tall is this kid
RAPUNZELS 5â1?!?!!đđ
so if heâs roughly as tall as her at sixteen, he could be about 5â2 and, technically, itâs possible he could stop growing at that point.
from stress.
and gymnastics.
