I can point to patterns and decide on my own who belongs where, but really, we're all under the same umbrella...idk. one big obvious difference is where each of their sense of self comes from, but does that translate across the board? Is that the pattern I'm picking up on, or something else? I'm doing the fucking nature vs nurture argument with narumitsu aren't I.

if you're wondering. Shu takumi says phoenix is the kind of guy who's very one track minded. He focuses on an external problem to form his sense of self. It's why Trucy is what saves him after disbarment. He forms his sense of self around protecting and raising her, much like he formed his sense of self around Saving Edgeworth.

Edgeworth, conversely, is very internally focused. His sense of self isn't formed by external input but by his interpretation of external forces. He already had a strong sense of self before the events of dl-6, after all. This is why he was able to stand up for phoenix.

Buuuut because of this, MvK can manipulate his sense of self by obfuscating reality. He must be a killer, he should be grateful to MvK for even thinking about taking him in, and his only role in life is punishing his internal self in the abstract by convicting "criminals" like himself.

The same thing can't really be said for phoenix, as he spends a Lot of his time analyzing reality and the way systems work. If you wanted to manipulate phoenix, you have to 1. Get him endeared to you 2. Obfuscate his ability to see the system in play. Dahlia does this! Kristoph tries to do this.
