It's crazy and wildly unfair the types of people who will be out there with no shame over any of their behavior meanwhile I'm stuck being nauseated at myself for every very normal conversation I have with someone

I think that's the biggest way to tell an asshole from an airhead. My husband and I love gift giving and we'll keep an eye out all year to think of appropriate christmas presents for the whole family. My parents... don't, and tbh it's mostly because our interests are weird and alien to us, but they'll take a wishlist anytime (and did this year). I can't remember what my favorite tunes are if you ask I'm not gonna judge others for not remembering important things when it matters, but I also know people who are actively reticent to the idea of putting any effort into remembering and those are the one you need to slap around a bit.
