Atlas Shudders
The first trigger that something was wrong was the explosion coming from the generator building, but before the knight could make heads or tails of anything else his mind was filled with screaming so loud he couldn’t hear himself yell.
“What the fuck just happened?!”
The first suggestion that things were going wrong was the explosion in the control room. The succubi tasked with watching the effortless engine running power through the whole island were ill equipped to handle the situation. Azeroth’s ley lines were suddenly causing overheating and losing power at the same time. They were quickly overwhelmed by the situation, one of the diamonds was knocked out of alignment. The locker of stored power cores exploded. Everything happened in in a matter of minutes.
The entire island of Atlas shook violently, its stones and ground flexing to crack along its faults releasing gases, mud, and showers of sand through the gardens. Remaining standing through the situation would be quite the feat of skill and concentration under pressure.
Darnath stormed and tumbled out of his office to see the initial explosion just in time for whatever was in his and Ash’s labs to catch from the surge of power and ignite in another shuddering explosion knocking him to the ground and the wind out of him.
The hanger came next. The equipment used to refill the batteries on Calypso, Aurora, Maia and Janus - all the functional airships cracked in the earthquake, leaking flaming and crystalizing arcane and ley line magics, melting or burning anything it touched literally like rocket fuel.
The rookery was a din of crying pain, palatable even to those without connection to the planet or to the dragons. The azure whelps were retching up mana, growing considerably weaker as precious moments went by. Ruby whelps were going stir crazy trying to call for help and unable to sit still in the fevered worry for their kin, particularly the emerald whelps, crying in rage and pain, some falling instantly into a deep, translucent slumber. Several of the bronze were no longer whelps, crashing from their tiny nests into their cousins as their timesteams were entirely fucked. One returned to its prehatched egg. The minority flights seemed to fare better, the storm, scourge, and twilight, frostwyrm, proto-whelp and others were merely upset at the scary sounds and shaking. The tiny, fearful black dragon was missing for the moment, but considering the yelling Mira had made over the comms through the whole process it didn’t look good for him or Leona.
“What the fuck just happened?!” Dar called over his communicator.
And then all the lights went out across the island. Power was out.
