My boyfriend was showing me his cat and I leaned over to kiss the cat on his soft little baby head and he went "meow" and scrambled away because I'd been wearing my headphones and I accidentally jabbed him with the microphone.
And I said "Damn, this is exactly like in the Iliad"
#explanation: this references the scene where Hektor the prince of troy goes to his wife after a battle and leans in to kiss his son #(who is still a baby and being held in andromache's arms) #but his son cringes away in fear of his father's battle helmet #it's a gut wrenching scene about how war dehumanizes you and separates you from the people you love #this interpretation implies that being a gamer is analogous
you ever get assigned something as a project in school and for the rest of your life you have a strange attachment to the subject. in like seventh grade i had an assignment to make a poster about the elemental propoerties of osmium and to this day everytime someone mentions it im like 'YEAAAAAAH OSMIUM MENTIONED!!!!!!!!'
Ring tailed lemurs and kareem abdul-jabbar for me lol
amazing pic of a momma lion eating her baby after she found out he used her credit card to buy Vbucks without permission. nature is brutal, yet beautiful

legitimately my first feminist awakening as a ten year old child was realizing that girls were expected to respect “boy stuff” but boys were never expected to respect “girl stuff”
my science fair project in fifth grade was basically i had this printout of a bunch of toys that were stereotypically boy toys and girl toys, and i would have my classmates study the sheet for some short period of time, idr if it was like 30 seconds or a minute or whatever, then put it away and had them recall to me as many toys as they could remember. my hypothesis was officially that boys would remember more boy toys and girls would remember more girl toys, but secretly in my head i knew that girls would probably remember boy toys and girl toys relatively equally but boys would still remember mostly boy toys. and that ended up being the case. and i still remember this 20 years later because it hasn’t fucking stopped. and you know what they didn’t even like my project. participation ribbon. i was a fifth grade feminist theorist and no one cared

I was asked to officiate the wedding of my very dear friends and while that was like the highest honor imaginable a close second was being asked to host an informative nature walk for all of the out of town guests the morning before the ceremony to give them a taste of the local ecology.
Not to brag but I picked the best spot and we got to hear an absolute orchestra of alligator bellowing in addition to witnessing this big guy
Highlight of the morning was probably our Sandhill crane courtship dance impersonation contest, which was fiercely competitive and even drew a small crowd of unrelated spectators. Our winner absolutely became a Sandhill crane for 30 seconds and his vigorous leaping and flapping won him a brand new pair of binoculars as a trophy.
I also made these custom stickers to hand out as prizes for trivia questions and spotting challenges during the walk, and everyone wore them around the reception with great pride.
I love sharing the ecology of my home with others and this was such a fun way to do it! I had a very joyful weekend and I may have even converted a few new birders 😏

So anyways with the rapid rise of fascism I feel it’s a good time to point out that it’s perfectly legal to follow unjust orders slowly, badly, or inefficiently
Breaking the law, even an unjust law, has consequences that not all can afford. But also a very large number of us are also very stupid, or very confused, or very lazy, and so it’s not unreasonable that someone at the bottom of the chain of command might make a typo, or misplace some paperwork, or leave a Friday afternoon email for Monday morning.
When something goes wrong, or an operation slows down, because a low-level worker somewhere sent a package to the wrong address or left someone on hold for an hour or didn’t fill out a particular form correctly- Do you immediately assume malicious intent? Or do you usually just brush it off as some underpaid idiot being bad at their job?
You also gotta not brag about it. Keep your political opinions on the down low. Be noncommittal or ignorant or undecided. Say things like “I’ve never heard of that”, “where did you hear that?” or “that’s interesting, I heard a conflicting story from here, how weird”. Never be outwardly confidant of what you know. When there is a silence, don’t fill it- leave the space and let the other fill it for you. That’s how you get information, that’s how you find sources, that’s how you reduce the value of anything others get out of you.
Virtue signalling by wearing pins and ribbons and loudly declaring your place is not safe in some environments. It will place scrutiny on you and everything you touch. Nobody believes the guy who says “fuck my boss and everything he stands for” scratches the boss’s car by accident, even if it is an accident.
If you want to slow the march of a tank, filling the path with mud is going do more than laying down in front of it.
people who hate brood parasites and call them cruel and evil I am feeding your socks to the goats. you're weak and you don't deserve the cuckoos or the cowbirds or the whydahs or the dirt beneath my crocs. learn to not assign moral value to animals or their evolutionary strategies and appreciate the sight of a small parent and their much bigger different-species child like God fucking intended
THIS IS MORALLY NEUTRAL
