Rain. That’s all that Charlie could ever think about.
Her eyes carried the warmth and life of a sunlit surface. They had a thousand hues of blue, radiating softly in swooping arcs.
Her personality was sweet and bubbly, kind of like a cool summer day, waves calmly lapping in the background. That, mixed with a dash of humor, made her the most popular girl at school.
Rain. Her name didn’t do her beauty justice.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Charlie looked up from her reverie. Someone had just bumped into her, and gone was the sweet daydream.
The school gym looked unrecognizable. Beneath the layer of dry-ice smoke swirled an array of blues, acid greens, hot pinks, and gold. It looked quite a bit like the Northern Lights. Music swirled all around the dance floor, pulsing through the hearts of the student body.
She stepped out into the light, entering the gym. The girl with the uneven blonde hair, a thousand shades of gold that created new mosaics with each movement, falling down Rain’s shoulders like a cascade of falling water.
Charlie mustered all of her courage, walked up to her long-time crush, and asked, “Will you dance with me?”
Needless to say, the answer was yes.
