âIâd like to commission a gift for my partner,â RabĂ© said. âTraditional ear cuffs, so they can be worn under a helmet.â
âAhh! Under a helmet, you say.â The Jewelerâs eyes twinkled. âAre they part of our Royal Security forces? Or a pilot?â Heâd already begun sketching ideas on the design table in front of him.
âNeither; heâs an active-duty ARC trooper,â RabĂ© replied. âHis name is Fives, and heâs been stationed on the other side of the galaxy for almost two months now. Iâve wanted to give him something like this for a long while now. Iâd love to have a gift ready for him when he returns. A token of my affection.â
The Jeweler, unofficial grandfather to generations of Naboo royalty, gave her a gentle smile and patted her hands again, sensing the sadness in her voice even as she tried to mask it. âA very romantic idea. I would be honored, my dear. Iâll begin at once. Traditional cuffs, you say...â
âSo thatâs the idea,â Fives, very much not on the other side of the galaxy--indeed, barely across the city of Theed itself--finished explaining, gesturing excitedly with his hands. âA custom dagger in exchange for my helping out here, for as long as it takes.â
The blacksmith, a middle-aged Human named Breeyasha, leaned against a marble column that made up the open-air front to their shop, one of several dozen lining one of the cityâs famous plazas. Nodding thoughtfully, they finally said, âYeah, we could make that work. When dâyou want it done by?â
âAs soon as possible,â Fives said, trying to contain his eagerness. âWe got on leave a lot sooner than I expected, and I want to surprise her. Sheâs on Coruscant right now, but weâre meeting here in a couple weeks.â
