Because I will always have a soft spot for Malec/Shadowhunters in general, but I also am currently very fixated on the Pitt, monkey brain has been wondering: AU where Magnus lost both his magic and his memories, decided to go into med school, and then matched to PTMC...where he finds Alec (or Izzy's) long lost twin brother, who'd gone missing and been pronounced dead over twenty years ago, after a mission gone wrong.
But Abbotdon. (Maybe Rabbotdon?)
In Jack's POV.
Jack doesn't recognize the Frank that walks back in on the 4th of July. He's more muscular, less talkative, and eerily still. The Frank that returned reminded him of his fellow veterans: disciplined and haunted in a way that only experience could have honed.
He's suprised when Frank switches to Nights but doesn't stay there, switching every few weeks even when Robby returns from his sabbatical.
Frank's on Days when a new rotation of interns join them, and Jack watches as Magnus walks in, hair perfectly styled and eyeliner sharp as ever and manages to befriend the stranger that's returned wearing Frank's face and body. Because for all that Frank had come back, sober and humble and sharp as ever, he'd kept his distance from everyone. He didn't join any after work activity nor struck conversation about anyone's personal life. The most Jack had seen Frank talk without it revolving a patient or medicine in general was when he would catch Frank and Mel talk about the latter's personal life.
And then here comes this intern, and suddenly he's able to pull a proper smile from Robby's former golden boy? Magnus manages to get full conversations that have nothing to do with the Pitt or his cases or med school.
Jack watches, awed and frustrated (and jealous as fuck), when Frank casually throws an arm aroun Magnus's shoulders and invites him to join Frank for dinner. Post-shift. Just the two of them.
He's apparently not the only one shocked, because Robby's also clocked that the new intern's imprinted on Langdon like a little duck and he's the first one that Frank actually actively seeks out to hangout with outside of work. (Mel being the exception, of course.)
Unbeknownst to them, Frank had actually been found, rehabilitated, and retrained by his twin (and eventually the rest of the Lightwoods). With Izzy's own Yin Fen addiction and recovery, and Alec's refusal to lose any more of his family than he already has, and Frank's grief over Max's (and eventually Abby's) death, Frank had decided he was going to finish his residency at PTMC and look at the possibility of eithed moving to New York where Izzy was the Head of the Institute, or fully returning to become a Shadowhunter (maybe as a medic or something.)
And part of getting reacquainted with his family and the life he'd lived and lost was finding out that he had a missing brother-in-law. So imagine his surprise when said BIL walked into the Pitt one day, unaware that there was someone out there who'd spent the last five years looking for him.
Frank's unaware of Jack (and Robby's?) interest in him, and chalks up any additional attention by either attending as being due to his sobriety or a general lack of trust in him. Cue his surprise when Jack petulantly points out Frank's supposedly inappropriate relationship with Magnus when Frank declines yet another invitation for food or drinks post-shift.
Cue Jack (and everyone else) finding out that Abby and Tanner died during the 10 months he was gone, and Penny was in a coma all the way in New York (held in stasis thanks to magic and shadowhunter tech).
And no one had known.
Because no one had reached out while he was gone.
Mel had found out because she'd asked him to hangout while they both had a free day and caught Frank face timing his comatose daughter with Izzy's help. She'd kept his secret and become one of his closest friends since.
Magnus, who was already beginning to remember his life before going into med school, is quick to adapt and loop his arm with Frank's as they leave, with Frank unaware of the glare(s) that follow them (because who was this intern who thought he has any right over their Frank?)
Meanwhile, Frank and Magnus are talking about when they're heading back to New York to spend time with the family and if Magnus was even going to push through with his residency if he ever gets his magic back.
Being able to draw older people as attractive without reducing or erasing the visual signs of aging, and in fact showing that they're attractive because of those signs, is an artistic skill that should be valued so much more. Honestly, it should earn you an immediate fortune because holy fuck is it a rare commodity. There are so many artists who seem to think attractiveness and aging exist in opposition to each other, so they smooth every wrinkle, erase every crease, and de-age the character until they're basically thirty with silver hair. But when an artist can look at crow's feet, smile lines, weathered skin, deep-set wrinkles, and all the little traces of a life well lived and say, "No, that's what makes them beautiful," that's a level of artistic observation and care I wish we celebrated more often.
having your favorite character be a minor character is like being a proud mother at a school play and cheering every time your kid comes on stage even though they’re playin the part of tree #3

Everyone passionately defending the em dash from being stolen completely by AI has also had the side effect of teaching me that I’ve been using it wrong. I was doing this - with a normal-sized dash and spaces between - rather than the larger dash with no spaces. So that’s cool I guess
it's actually called em dash because it's meant to be the width of an M. There's also an n dash which is meant to be the width of an N.
normal dash is for in-between words, like in in-between!
n dash is usually for numbers, like when you're saying, "I did 4–7 things today."
m dash is for interjecting a sentence to add context—extra information or thoughts and lists of things—without making said context seem less important than the rest of the sentence (which would be the case with brackets).
on mobile keyboards, you can usually hold down on the dash to make the other dashes appear
like so.
and while it's not incorrect to use em dashes with a space before and after the dash — this definitely done in published writing too! — it's less common than using it without those spaces, especially online.
I think a fandom becomes more interesting when people are allowed to explore uncomfortable ideas instead of pretending they don't exist
Always remember that the EU did a study in 2013 about the effects of piracy on media publishers and found that there is no correlation between piracy and sales! (And then they tried to hide that study bc that's not the result they wanted)
So piracy is at worst not even a problem, and at best it's free advertisement.
Source: (the link to the actual study is in the article)
In 2013, the European Commission ordered a €360,000 ($430,000) study on how piracy affects sales of music, books, movies and games in the EU
Plus this one:
A new report out of the UK once again deflates the common narrative that pirates are exclusively looking to obtain free stuff.
May I present some cracky chibi art to celebrate the birthday of our favourite petty, sassy, salty king whom we stan in this house always
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEC LIGHTWOOD-BANE!!
This drawing was inspired by various conversations I had with @kenruart where we discussed Alec's salty personality and being the embodiment of the 😒 emoji LOL

“i liked it before it was cool” well i liked it AFTER it was cool when everyone abandoned it
i get really into shows that aired like 5+ years ago like “have y’all heard of this”
when you get an ao3.org comment where someone quotes fic lines back to you?? unparalleled. brain exploding. best feeling in the world
sometimes u headcanon a character as a sexuality but then also ship things that contradict that. sometimes you ship things you would NEVER EVER want in canon. this is because these things are fun and silly and not legally binding.
I actually recommend everyone write for a rarepair once because it completely changes your relationship with fandom. Engagement stops being numbers and starts being names. You know who's going to show up. You recognize usernames. Someone disappears for a while and then comes back and you're like “OH MY GOD WELCOME HOME.” It's incredibly wholesome. It is also deeply inconvenient when all six of you simultaneously get writer's block-
