Everybody looks so wrong in the AI generated image. That's a given, but let's take a closer glance, huh? We're going to compare and contrast images directly next to each other, and on some of them, I've circles the artifacts I want to draw attention to. Ready?
Fiona Dourif's shoe is laced in a way that blends together and doesn't quite make sense. The shadows on her pant leg don't track with the way her foot is turned, and in both images, she is painfully lacking the beautiful texture to her hand and face that her age would show. Also, the shadows on her jacket in the second image's AI generated section seem too extreme for the lighting, and appear painted on.
Next, let's look at Taylor Dearden. On the image on the left, you can see the leg of her glasses not actually sit on her ear, as well as the stethoscope blending into her ear. Her fingers also don't look like they're actually holding onto anything. As for the image on the left, the stripes on her socks do not seem distinct from her shoes, and you can physically see the line where they started having to generate background.
On this image of Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa, not only do they look airbrushed to hell and back, Wyle's shadow cast by his cheek bleeds into his beard, and I've circles the fact that you can see duplicate stethoscopes where the shadow was supposed to lay. Beyond that, LaNasa's arm looks disconnected, and the hair on Wyle's arm seems colored on.
Patrick Ball and Shabana Azeez's hands are pretty screwed up if we can ignore how weird the faces appear and the lack of texture. Both of their hands lack distinction between fingers, Azeez's seems like it has the wrong number, and Ball's thumb seems separate from the hand itself.
FInally, let's examine Sepideh Moafi. Beyond the general oddness of her face, look at the hair. There is no individuality to the strands, it all exists as one blob in the AI generated image. This is also noticeable on Ganesh but it's more obvious here. No texture, no lighting differences, no curl pattern. It's all one piece. Also her badge seems like it's part of her clothes.
On top of everything I've pointed out, everybody in the generated image is lacking texture, definition, and the likeness we know them by. Teeth are messed up, noses have been changed, face angles are shifted. Since we have the original image we can look at these directly and actually see how different they are. I could pick this entire thing apart, just the entirety of Gerran Howell looks wrong from what we know him to be, but I have an image limit on Tumblr.
This is awful. Their likenesses were fed into a data system they did not consent to, and the original photographer (I am assuming it's Peggy Sirota as she took the other pictures of this set, please correct me if I'm wrong) has had their work fed into it as well. They were also not credited, as far as I can tell, though I don't know if there was any payment behind the scenes so I won't point fingers on that.
Not cool. Not okay, not funny, not alright. For an awards show hosted by a group with the name creative in their title, this is just gross. Do fucking better.
