Années Folles is a closed/invite-only roleplay group focused on a cast of characters from all walks of life, moving and shaking through the streets of Paris in the bright, strange days of 1926.
Welcome to the crazy years. ☞ MOBILE NAVIGATION ☜
It’s been almost a year - and what a year - since we first opened our doors and inbox. By popular demand, we’re back again! And it’s all thanks to you, our lovely members! Merci, merci beaucoup for sharing your words and wonder with us; you created a group that was truly worthy of being missed. And so, without further adieu, we return to the starry streets of Paris! Welcome, darlings, welcome again.
For the time being, Années Folles will be a closed, character-driven group. New players will only be joining us by invitation. Established players are free to take up any and all muses they previously played without re-applying. If you intend to drop or in any way substantially adjust your old muses, please send the news along to the main so that we can update our records for everyone’s reference. It’s no trouble! As ever, we want to support a space where you’re all able to grow, experiment, and enjoy your writing. If you wish, you may also apply for new characters from among our skeletons, or make an original suggestion!
The main will be lightly helmed, as admin availability allows. No activity checks will take place. Our goal is simply to provide a comfortable creative lounge of sorts, where we’re all able to write as suits our schedule. While we will continue to provide the occasional challenge and the odd event prompt, any grander designs when it comes to plot development will be left to the talented hands of our members. Our OOC Discord will, likewise, be maintained for player use. Beyond that, Années Folles is what we make of it, darlings. We look forward to seeing you around the dash once more, shining and bright in the City of Lights!
Sincerely yours, avec nos meilleures salutations…

You’ve always been beautiful, ever since you were a child. So very, very beautiful that, apparently, it was and is the most important thing about you - how your cheeks dimple when you laugh, the way your eyes sparkle, the gloss and tumble of your hair. But there’s so much more to you than that! Your education was refined, your travels wide and worldly. You could be anything you want to be, but what you crave, above all, is to be truly seen - to be recognized, at last, as every bit as fine an artist as those you sit for. It’s true! You know it. And so would they, if they just bothered to look.
Unfortunately, so far, the art you’ve made has gone unnoticed… even as the art you inspire graces the walls of chic salons and prestigious galleries, the globe over. These days, you hate to see them: the paintings, the sculptures, the prints plastered across the walls and billboards of Paris, all you, and not. Admired, bought, sold, while your pieces gather dust. It’s infuriating, but. Your artistic endeavors aren’t exactly cheap, and you’ve got bills to pay. So you draw that famous smile on, and strike a pose. This is just a placeholder. You won’t settle for a life spent as just another pretty face. One day, they’ll see you, and your creations - and then, you’ll change the world.
CONNECTIONS:
The Poet: They remind you so much of yourself - once upon a time. So talented and eager, hopeful about the world around them. You hope the world doesn’t wring that out of them, and not only because you find them wonderfully refreshing.
The Benefactor: You two have run in the same social circles for a while now, and you have the talent they have always longed for. It was flattering at first, gratifying, the way they took interest in your work; but all of their direction, well-meant though it might be, is starting to get on your nerves.
The Noble: You know. Maybe less than they fear, but. Enough. The scandal they tried to leave behind could ruin them all over again - if you let the story slip. They’d better give you a good reason to keep it to yourself…
Possible faceclaims: Amber Rose Revah, Sonequa Martin-Green, Morena Baccarin, suggest more!
War took the country you cared for and turned it upside down. The streets were empty, save for the beggars on the corner, the newsies hollering death tolls, and… you. Left behind as the parades tumbled along and the marching columns passed, you watched as all of your classmates and friends rallied round, as the draft was announced, as your mother and father fretted and planned. You hadn’t volunteered, not wanting to break their fragile hearts; but the recruiting officers would come, soon, and you’d be summoned to join the rest. At last. Then your parents couldn’t protest! They’d understand, when you returned with medals on your chest, a dashing scar or two, and honor, won on the field of battle. It would be such a grand adventure!
Except, no summons arrived. Impossible - except, it wasn’t. Money, as your parents used to say, could get you anywhere. Or keep you anywhere, as the case might be. They revealed the truth to you, eventually: they’d paid, handsomely, to see your name scratched from the list. No regiment would take you, for fear of their displeasure. You would go off to the Sorbonne, as planned. And you would survive.
But that wasn’t enough, somehow. You drifted through your lectures, threw off your assignments, listless, resentful. Then, you discovered it; the bohemian heart of Paris, wild and free, beating even in the throes of la Grande Guerre. The bright lights, the giddy music, the shimmer and sway of the courtesans in their costumes… they were the perfect distraction from all those brothers and friends, serving and dying while you finished your studies and went to work. Once the smoke cleared, you discovered that the ruination had gone so much further than you realized. The land, the cities, the people you once knew… blasted and burned, almost beyond recognition. How could you ever return, to face all that? And so you stayed. Comfortably, anyone would guess, from looking. You have money to spare; your estranged, desperate parents and your plush career have made sure of that. But is there enough wealth and wonder in all the world to make you forget how badly you wish it had been you, in uniform?
CONNECTIONS:
The Angel: She is one of the most beautiful things you have ever seen, descending from the clouds of Le Ciel to grace the eager crowd with her presence. A blessing, truly, a balm, whenever you get to overthinking. But, sometimes, you wonder if she wants more than you can give her…
The Emigré: They had the life that you desperately wanted. While you were working behind a desk, they were on a battlefield. You don’t know why you find yourself resenting them so much, but your jealousy can get the best of you at times.
The Artificer: Their love for this city is similar to your own. Maybe that’s why you’re able to be some sort of comfort to each other when life gets a little bit too heavy. Drinks, dancing, and cigars – they’re your first call when you want to spend an evening on the town.
Possible faceclaims: Luke Pasqualino, Michael B. Jordan, Tom Hardy, suggest more!
You heard it, as everyone did: the shot that shook the world, and sent humanity spiralling into a new, deeper darkness. As the men around you buttoned their uniforms and said their goodbyes, you wanted nothing more than to join the fight. So you marched into the nearest recruiting office, determined. And marched back out, seething. You weren’t one to take no for an answer. So you found another office. And another office, in another country - where, at last, you made it through the door, and into the ranks.
Sort of. They wouldn’t let you serve like your brothers, like your father. But you had an iron will and nerves of steel, and brought both to the Western Front. Nothing could have prepared you, prepared anyone, for the horror of it all: the churning of mud and flesh, the cracking of minds. But every morning, you tied on your nurse’s apron, rolled up your sleeves, and began a new day. You weren’t about to stand for any nonsense or abuse, along the way. Bloody to the elbows, you spoke up in defence of your patients and sisters both, fearless, furious, as shells whined in the distance and the wounded cried for aid. Blustering officers and temperamental surgeons crumpled, swept aside.
After the last stitch was cut, you found yourself in Paris - aghast at the mistreatment of those veterans whose lives you’d saved, and of the swell of refugees draining out of the broken countrysides of Europe. They were all being pushed aside, like so much rubble. And you wouldn’t stand for it. So you stayed. Soon, you were ministering to the city’s poor: malnourished mothers, sickly children, labourers wracked by long hours at the factory. While the war is long past, its scars remain, and the battle for better isn’t over. These streets are your new hospital ward, and you have work to do.
CONNECTIONS:
The Novelist: They need to look after themselves - in more than the physical sense. You know what they’re trying to put into words, and while you understand the need, and the value of it, you can see the toll their work is taking. Will this really bring them the peace they’re after, or just cause more pain?
The Ballerina: So young, and pushed so hard - for art! You’d have a few choice words for their managers, if you got the chance. But, this is the life they’ve chosen. You do your best to support them, both as a medical professional and a confidante.
The Smuggler: They’re willing to help you stretch your thin budget, and it means a lot to be able to offer your patients the relief they deserve. That kind of thing can be hard to come by, legally, in the amounts you need; but they don’t squint and question, like a proper pharmacist would. You focus on that, and try to put those unsettling stories out of mind.
Possible faceclaims: Jennifer Pudavick, Ming Na Wen, Olivia Williams, suggest more!
Your career choice wouldn’t be what most people expect for someone of your stature and you know it. But you’ve never let it bother you. Amid all the flowers and soft lights and splendor, you run a tight ship. Your keen instinct for appearances and tight control over the entertainment you provide have provided you with stability, but you want more. Your charms will aid you in wheeling into society, you’re sure of it. Your job doesn’t have to be considered illicit: you work with people, pure and simple. Their hopes, their vulnerabilities, and – above all – their desires.
CONNECTIONS:
The Savior: Your spies tell you that they’re one of few on the Paris police force with serious scruples, and it terrifies you. You have a feeling that your monetary strategies may not work with someone like him, so what will? Here’s to hoping that your personal charms will be enough to keep the door to your prized establishment unscarred.
The Angel: You’re well aware of what an asset she is to Le Ciel – charming, quick-witted, and talented, too. If only you had someone with such intense star power of your own. But you’re beginning to wonder if perhaps you can. You pay well and think she could use a change, to really highlight her talent. It’s worth a try, surely.
The Émigré: You can see familiar terror and ambivalence lurking behind their straight-backed collectedness. You’ve known plenty of their secretly damaged, war-torn sort in your time, and running into them brings back snatches of pain in your own past . You’ve never been good with warm, fuzzy feelings, but you do feel a pull towards them, even if that just manifests itself in the occasional free drink.
Possible faceclaims: Cate Blanchett, Lucy Liu, Gillian Anderson, suggest more!

You are the envy of the literary world, though they’re too blinded by intimidation and inadequacy to tell you so. It all began in your youth – you shocked the world with not one, not two, but three novels that reinvented the form – and all before the age of 25. In no time, there were poets, essayists and other eccentrics beating down your door, always with their hearts wrapped up in parchment and ink. Perhaps one of them wore you down, or perhaps you just needed a new diversion – however it happened, one day a printing press sailed through your front door, and you had entered into the world of publishing. Now, alongside your own avant-garde experiments, scouting talent is what gets you up in the morning, a critical eye gleaming and ready for whatever might come your way.
CONNECTIONS:
The Novelist: You had the pleasure of reading some of their work a while back, and were impressed; there was talent, there, and a willingness to traipse across some of the usual literary lines. When a friend in the industry told you they were cooking up something new, you offered your services. Now that you have their drafts in hand, you’re wondering if that was a mistake - or, perhaps, the most exciting artistic choice you’ve made in ages. Only time, and editing, will tell…
The Artificer: You’re fairly confident that you don’t “get” their work, but that’s what gets you so excited. You’ve found yourself in a position known to many, many others but foreign to you …for the first time in years, you’re a fan of someone else, and it’s positively thrilling.
The Critic: The two of you go back a way. They’re sharp enough as to avoid boring you like most normal beings seem to do these days. Even when you go a while without speaking to them, you’re always sure to check their columns to look for a bitter laugh or two, or a tip about any stars-to-be that you should scoop up.
Possible faceclaims: Gina Torres, Gemma Arterton, Anna Chancellor, suggest more!

And without further ado - our shortlist!
✺ THE ACTOR-MANAGER. performer
Since childhood, you’ve barely gone a day without being under a spotlight. Leading a company through six plays a week certainly isn’t everyone’s idea of a worthwhile living; you, though, couldn’t ask for anything better. You’ve found real success in the rep system. It isn’t all reverence and professionalism, however - everyone likes having their ego fed, you as much as anyone. But where’s the harm in that if the audiences come rushing back night after night? And they do, just to see you. You’re a star, and you’ll make sure everyone damn well knows it, or else.
✺ THE BOOKWORM. public
Naive, sheltered, dull. To most people, your quiet upbringing seems absolutely dreadful. But you managed, chiefly with the help of stories. You dove into all kinds of fantastic tales in your youth, only surfacing to eat, drink, or sleep when absolutely necessary. It’s these two things - a devotion to words and sheer force of will, that have landed you at the top of your classes at the Sorbonne, and goodness, are you thrilled. The insularity of the ivory tower suits you perfectly, and you’re determined to climb to the top. But now that you’re in Paris, will you take the opportunity to see what other stunning places your brain could take you, or choose to stay in your lane?
✺ THE BRUISER. rogue
You knew it wouldn’t be easy to make it to the top of your game, but you’ve always been so sure you have what it takes, and nobody will ever convince you otherwise. You just need your shot, that’s all. As quick as one of your near-legendary jabs, as spectacular as your almost-infamous haymakers. You’re so, so close. And if it takes a few unsavory friends, a couple dark deeds, to go all the way… you’re willing. Or, at least, you thought you were. Sometimes, as you wrap your swollen knuckles for the next round, you can’t help but wonder if you’re getting in too deep. But the only way out is through, you figure. As true in life as in the ring. Anyway, there’s no backing out now. Is there?
✺ THE CONSERVATOR. public
Art might not have been your first love, but your adoration for creativity has turned out to be a lifelong, vibrant affair. You came to Paris to be a part of all that, smiling giddily through your academy classes and plein air projects. It was in the halls of the Louvre that you found your calling, though. Winding through the wings, you saw more than inspiration on the walls and plinths. Every neglected artifact left you aching, every faded painting cut you to the quick. These masterworks needed caring for, the way you cared. With heart and soul. You’ve been looking after the museum’s pieces ever since, trying to mend what you can, to create a collection that honours the fullness of human expression, as you understand it. As you love it. As you hope others will, for generations.
✺ THE DEBUTANTE. psociety
New things are more normal to you than the heady combination of champagne and small-talk – oh, and the admiring gazes of others, of course. The jewel of the family, your light, almost dotty demeanor has left all who meet you intoxicated with your charisma. Underneath the giggles and sweetness, however, you possess a real head for human nature and a ferocious determination to get what you want. Despite your youth, you know you’re destined for great things –and you’re ready to charm, cajole, and manipulate whoever you have to in order to achieve those goals.
✺ THE DREAMER. public
The night skies over gay Paris aren’t the only sight full of stars - so’s your bar! Every night, you mix drinks and swap gossip with the Bal’s fabulous patrons, pouring champagne for kings and queens, basking giddily in the glow of the only celebrities you much care to mind. They’re your family - and your inspiration. Ever since you discovered the city’s bright, queer corners, you’ve known your destiny. You’re meant to be under the stagelights, like your idols: perfectly poised as the curtain rises, ready to face your adoring fans. In the meantime, being close enough to pass their glasses and pick up their tricks is almost enough. You just have to work up the nerve to try. You’ll get there. Someday.
✺ THE EMCEE. performer
By night, you conduct the revels of the Bal with scintillating style, a master of ceremonies non-pareil. By day, you manage a host of well-made investments with gracious aplomb and entrepreneurial acuity. You’ve built something, in Paris; under your sheltering wings, your community doesn’t merely survive, but thrives, joyful and growing. These days, you’re popular far beyond your milieu - a pillar of the city, patron and artist all at once. And you throw a hell of a party, of course.
✺ THE NEWSIE. public
Stories are powerful things; few appreciate that fact so much as you, for stories are your passion, and your bread and butter besides. A staple of some of the finest magazines and papers in the city, you’re out at all hours - chasing leads, asking quick, clever questions, and taking in every tale the City of Lights has to offer, from the strange to the everyday, whispered in the salons of the spectacularly wealthy, laughed about on the humblest street corners, scrounged from every end of town. Meaning you’re never short of work, for sure!
✺ THE PRETENDER. rogue
Mother Russia was never kind, and you weren’t at all confident that the so-called glorious revolution would change that. So you took what you could carry - and you chose well, picking gems from the ruins of the aristocracy you once served - and ran. Sure, maybe you’re a pessimist, but at least you’re alive to tell the tale. Or, a tale, anyway. It’s become such a spectacular story, growing ever grander with each recitation, thrilling your new, unlikely friends, here in the highest echelons of Parisian society. None of whom seem to have noticed the holes in your plot, the slip-ups you pass off as the lingering effects of shock and melancholy. The truth is, you stumbled into a new life, a sweet life - someone else’s life, paid for with their own prize jewels and your silver tongue. Can you keep the ruse going, or will your secrets cost you everything?
✺ THE PROFESSOR. society
When people look at you, the images that most often spring to mind are those of steadiness and reliability. In your years within the walls of the Sorbonne, you’ve had a life that engenders envy. A life entirely dedicated to scholastic endeavour has been more than adequate for you, and now, you’re ready to reap some of the benefits. You have some time on your hands and need a new research project. Perhaps some of the colorful characters around the city that you hear whispered about could help you. They make your colleagues shiver, these bohemians, but something about that intrigues as well as terrifies you.
✺ THE RETAINER. public
Unlike all the shining lights in Paris these days, your greatest skill isn’t your charm, or star quality, but the very opposite; for years now, you’ve blended expertly into the wallpaper at every society event, your razor-sharp attention to detail meaning that your employers’ dinner, or their perfect outfit, or much-needed glass of wine appear as if by magic , almost before they’ve even thought of any such needs, wants, and whims for themselves. Proud as you are of your professionalism, lately you’ve been feeling different. Antsy. Exasperated. Bitter. So many years of listening on the outside of the conversations of the rich and famous. You almost want to do something about it. But what?
✺ THE VISIONARY. artist
More than half of the hottest houses in this town owe their beauty to your brilliance, if you do say so yourself. Angularity, glitz, and above all modernity are what wake you up in the morning. Lately, Paris seems like a wonderful place to be waking up to. Every week, there’s a new trend around the corner - some element of theatrical design transmitted into the home, or a new, clever convenience the public is desperate to have. It’s a little scary - you’d hate to fall even a little bit behind. But, God, is it intoxicating too. The world is looking more modern than ever, and the people are clamouring to embrace the mechanized, the sleek, and the new, in seemingly every form. Your job is simple. Keep dreaming, keep creating, and keep ahead of the curve.
Don't forget to toss your top five along! We can't wait to stack up the votes.
Are there any other faceclaims of colour you would like to see, apart from the ones already suggested in the bios?
Hey nonny! We are absolutely bursting with excitement to give some suggestions, but to make sure we're being as helpful as possible, we'd like to hear a little more about your character plans.
Are there any skeletons in particular that are catching your eye? Or perhaps even just a gender or age range that you have in mind? Do tell us more, darling, and we’ll be ever so happy to help!

It wouldn’t be exaggerating - too much - to say you’ve stolen half the world’s breath away, and have yet to give it back. Your poetry astonishes and astounds, summoning sunlight with a stanza, unfolding galaxies between the pages of your many illustrious collections. Sure, not everyone understands your work. But that’s to be expected; you’re the avant-garde, after all. Here in Paris you’ve found everything you need to live happily and well, spinning the everyday into stardust among like-minded spirits.
And yet. Said spirits seem to be going stale, lately. These comrades made you believe in all that art was capable of, the power of creativity to elevate and transform. But they’ve become addled by the hazy delights of the age, pretentious and purposeless. The last thing you want is to fall out of love with the world at large, but it’s getting harder and harder to see the splendor you used to find down every street.
CONNECTIONS:
The Unionist: Now that’s a voice for the times, for the people. You were riveted, the first time you heard them speak. It’s dangerous to listen, you know. But you can’t help yourself.
The Muse: You work together like a lock and key, two creative souls who collaborate with wondrous ease. But you’re at the height of your powers, celebrated and awarded, and they’re still frustrated, stifled, dismissed. Will envy turn the sweetness sour?
The Fugitive: You may not understand why they left that (seemingly) simple high-society life behind, but you’re happy for them all the same - in a pitying sort of way. Honestly, you don’t think they’re going to make it. But you reassure them all the same. Who knows?
Possible faceclaims: Brandon P. Bell, Alfonso Herrera, Laura Harrier, suggest more!
Everyone wants to rule the world, but nobody ever mentions how lonely it can be at the top. Lonely and boring. When you have everything - when you can have anything - even the newest, shiniest, most fascinating amusements start to stale quickly. But you’ve got more than money, more than a name that matters. You have an imagination, and you can picture a different life, a fuller life - like those you find in the novels and magazines scattered about your luxurious estate. You want to create, to love, to sip deeply, as they say - to do anything and everything that feels more real than lounging around with your high society so-called friends, listening to the same-old superficial talk, talk, talk, and spending money like it’s going out of style.
Truth is, you can’t stand the mean, fake, vapid crowd you were born to. They hang on your every word, laugh at every joke, admire every fashion. It’s exhausting, though. So superficial! Such a performance! If you’re going to take in a show, you’d much rather it be one of the newfangled wonders of Montparnasse, or the glimmering treasures of Montmartre. Those warm lights and jostling clubs embrace you, night after night, whenever you can get away. This side of Paris promises everything you’ve ever dreamed of - but all that glitters is not gold, and the City of Lights has a dark side you’ve yet to truly see. What will happen when you stumble into those shadows? Can you love the city’s ugly angles, too? Or will they break your heart?
CONNECTIONS:
The Spiritualist: They are made of the stars, and you can’t get enough of them. They’re one of the only people you know who’s always ready to delve into some deep conversation, probing the mysteries of the world, life, death, and beyond, and you couldn’t be more grateful.
The Newsie: Their article was nothing more than lies and slander, and you couldn’t believe that anyone would dare to smear you so. You spent months doing damage control after their nasty drivel hit the papers, and you haven’t forgotten about it – and neither has most of Parisian society.
The Angel: She is your your inspiration. You were starstruck from the moment you saw her first, so free and beautiful, gliding across the stage. You’d trust her with anything. Is that wise? Maybe not. But you’ve never been especially suspicious.
Possible faceclaims: Bahar Sahin, Kiersey Clemons, Arden Cho, suggest more!
You’ve only ever done what you had to do, to stay alive, to care for those you considered your own. So it went, from that cold, rough childhood, through a hard, rawboned youth… to the Western Front, and back again. War hardened you, sure. But you’d never had much chance to be soft, in the first place, and when you turned that uniform in, you didn’t feel disjointed, lost, like a different person - like so many did. Just a little older, that’s all. And not much richer for it. Struggling from payday to payday, bearing the blows of fate the way you had, all your life… that was a young man’s game, you decided. Not for you, anymore.
Determined to carve out something more substantial for yourself, you found your answer behind a badge. Pinned on, funnily enough, by an officer you’d known on the battlefield. Someone who remembered your gallantry, under fire. Was that what it was? You’d never much cared how your bloody service was defined, but if that’s the take that’ll keep you in a comfortable desk and a comfortable wage, you figured it would do. Only, turns out serving with the Sûreté, in Paris, is about as thankless a job as you can get. A city so sinful as this cares little for the light of law and order. And if they’re so eager to stray into the darkness, why shouldn’t you join them? A bribe here, a little extortion there - what’s it matter, when the wealthy feast on champagne and caviar while the poor starve on the steps? So what, if you mete out some brutal justice of your own when the courts are too corrupt and spineless to see things through?
It’s awfully easy to bend the rules when you’re the one enforcing them. You know you’re not the only flic to cross those lines, either. Far from it. But you’re certain you’re more careful than the rest, smarter, better at covering your tracks and impressing the right people. You know your new position could take you places, ever richer, cushier places. If you play your cards right. So, for now, you walk softly, and carry a big, heavy stick. You’re willing to use it, and whatever power you can muster, to get ahead at last… and stay there, no matter what.
CONNECTIONS:
The Hostess: You’ve been friends for so long that you’re certain the pair of you could weather even the worst of storms… but you’re starting to get the feeling that she’s heard a whisper or two about your less than savory side jobs, your malicious moonlighting. How much does she know? And how much would it bother you, if she turned her back and closed her door, after everything? Would losing the gentlest part of your past break what’s left of your heart, or are you just too far gone for that sort of thing to matter?
The Diamond: You aren’t too choosy about the courtesans you spend your time with, but she has such a genuine glow, incandescent, really. You’re willing to spend a great deal of your dirty money to bask in that, privately, upstairs at the Folies Bergère. There’s something to her that makes you wonder how much you have in common, hidden away in those sad stories neither of you seem to be telling. Of course, that’s probably all in your head.
The Effervescent: That sparkle of theirs brings out the best in you, somehow. But such brightness seems fragile, to one who knows Paris as you do; this city could eat them alive. You make a point of patrolling their neck of the woods, doing what you can to make sure that pretty little shop of theirs stays safe.
Possible faceclaims: Liev Schreiber, Mahershala Ali, Ian McShane, suggest more!

You spent your days in crisply professional order: trousers pressed, collars starched, itinerary drawn up and done, week after week. Scheduled, to the minute. Your life was neat, tidy, predictable… and easy to afford, when you were skimming off the top. Just a bit! Nobody would notice. Your boss trusted you enough to bring you in on their teeny-weeny scam, and you were happy to reap the rewards - and to share them. After all, your ill-gotten gains were nurturing quite the nest egg; you wouldn’t want for much, when the time came for you to slip away. Might as well pass the wealth around. Groceries for your elderly neighbors, a few prints bought off that struggling artist next door, a new puppy, for your seamstress’ children. Seeing people happy - the little people, like you - was grander than any diamond stickpin. And less suspicious, too. Worrying for nothing, you kept your appointments, fudged the numbers, and cooked the books. Never suspecting that things could go so very, very wrong.
But they did, and hideously. It came out of nowhere, a bolt from the blue. Or, more accurately, a bullet. It was a Saturday like any other; a quiet drink with your manager, your friend, your co-conspirator, smiling and enjoying a night on the town. Only, the next morning, they were dead, sprawled out on the bullpen floor. You couldn’t believe it. Murdered? What had they ever done, besides steal a smidge from people who’d hardly notice the difference? You panicked - you’ve never been cut out for a life of crime, really - and packed your bags, as quick as you could. Emptying your accounts, you bought a ticket out of town, out of the country, and just kept running. Away from your family, and your pals at the office. Away from that warrant. Though, it’s not only the cops you’re scared of; it wasn’t them who killed your boss in cold blood, was it? No, you know a hit when you see one. But who would do such a thing? You couldn’t say, which means your enemy could be anywhere, and anyone.
Even here, in Paris. You’d hoped to find some peace, this far from the scene of the crime. No such luck. You still sleep with a pistol under your pillow, hoping you’ll never have to use it - given that you don’t really know how - and you’re not about to quit looking over your shoulder anytime soon. Hey, it’s not paranoia if they’re really out to get you.
CONNECTIONS:
The Savior: You aren’t sure how far the news of your alleged crimes has spread, but you can’t help shivering whenever they walk by, badge shined up, eyes sharp. If you have to hit the road again, you’re ready. But when will it end? Can you ever clear your name?
The Ballerina: You’ve crossed paths on the street, more than a few times; seems you’re neighbors! You miss having friends, honestly, and wonder if they could be one. But, getting attached might be more trouble than it’s worth… you’d hate to get them into any kind of trouble.
The Forger: You’re eager to acquire a shiny, fresh identity - just the thing to help you settle into your newest hideaway. They come highly recommended, and you do hope they turn out to be everything you’ve heard. After all, your life might depend on it.
