We see Alastor getting attached to the hotel crew in s1 and then beat himself up about it after he almost dies for them, we see him almost foil his s2 plan to defend Niffty — so we know that, despite what he proclaims, he gets attached quite easily.
I think it’s very possible that Alastor had finally found a friend and got so scared that he resolved to have Vincent hate him forever because he couldn’t afford to be weak.

Y'know all of alastor's plan solely relied on vox. Make him the strongest sinner in hell and break out of the deal.
He never considered the worst-case scenario. He simply never thought it could be this deadly.
Fandom often downplays it, but Vox almost blew up heaven and hell, everyone and HIMSELF.
Alastor underestimated vox. He thought he would beat Vox after he broke his deal with rosie, save hell and make up for his reputation he lost during that time.
BUT, during his fight with Vox, he DID NOT win,got hurt and severely injured.
I think at the core of it, my interpretation of Radiostatic boils down to
Vox = I hate you more than I ever loved you, and I still fucking love you.
Alastor = I love you more than I could ever hate you, but I can never love you the way you want me to, which makes me hate both of us for making the part of me that loves you.
They've had these feelings for so long that they've festered into something so unrecognizable, but so familiar. Neither of them can let the other go, because there's something comforting about never having to truly accept the other's absence. Doing so would mean being nothing to the other, and that would hurt worse than what they have now. So, Vox will always be watching, and Alastor will always look slyly at every camera he passes by.
love how Not normal Alastor is about Vox. All of season 2 plays this wonderful game of red herring with Vox's obsession because it is just So Loud and in your face, but if you spend more than five minutes looking at their relationship you suddenly realize Alastor is operating on levels of obsession that are yet unknown to man or beast
