After having raped her and calling it a relationship, this man murdered this girl.
But he has accomplices. The accomplices are us. You and me. Yes. Deny it if you wish. Your denial is bullshit.
We created the environment in which transgender/gender-non-confirming/non-binary people are considered âfreaksâ and, therefore, killable. We are the ones who have allowed our white supremacist patriarchal indoctrination to convince us that human life is as small, limited, simplistic, ahistortic, unscientific, one-dimensional, and flat as they told us it was. Â
We are the ones who create the conditions in which a man believes itâs absolutely reasonable to murder his girlfriend because heâs afraid that *we* will find out that sheâs transgender.
He feels this because we casually believe and say things like âtransgender women are not real womenâ and âtransgender people should use separate restrooms because theyâre scary Trojan horses that are either seeking to harm us or will open the door for other people to harm us.â He thought this was perfectly acceptable because we gender-police the fuck out of everything and everyone.
We do this despite the fact that every study on the subject concludes the same thing: transgender/gender-non-conforming/non-binary people are *far* more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators.
1. We canât feel whole unless weâve quartered someone else.
2. We refuse to regard anyone other than ourselves as victims.
3. We will do anything in our power to avoid admitting how much we love the chains around our necks, and how eager we are to hold the chains around the neck of others.
We donât really want to be liberated; we just want to deny someone else of their liberty.
Mercedes Williamson, an underage teen, is dead because her grown-ass murderer knew all of us,each and every one of us, are a part of his gang and that weâd always have his back. We are on the wrong side of history and future generations will judge us savage. And they will be 130% correct.
Our denial is an admission.
May we never achieve happiness until we claim our humanity first.
âA Mississippi man is going to prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend. Usually, when it comes to crimes between lovers and exes, the perpsâ motive has to do with slights, real and perceived. In this case, though, it happened after a friend discovered that she was transâsomething he was trying to keep quiet.
Joshua Brandon Vallum, 29, and Mercedes Williamson, 17, had a sexual relationship from âlate spring or early summerâ of 2014 'until August or September,â the Department of Justice said on Wednesday. Why the relationship ended remains unclear, but in any case, he told the feds he didnât want anyone to know he was dating a transgender woman, keeping their relationship and the fact she was trans from his friends, family, and other gang members. Thatâs right: He belonged to the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Almighty Latin Kings and Queens Nation.â
