JOSIAH took a moment to look up from his phone, trying his best to hide the nerves that were coursing through his body at the thought of seeing old, familiar faces after so long. “ you know, all through college, i always promised myself i was gonna be the one to spike the punch bowl at our ten year reunion. now that i’m here, though, it sounds way less fun than it did back then. besides, there’s already free champagne, so. i guess that makes it okay. ”

“WHAT A DISAPPOINTING PROMISE.” Just like Josiah, Alex, too, finds himself scrolling through his emails on his phone. There is no point in having to pretend he recognizes the people who attended the reunion. The only thing that makes him look up from his phone is a passing waiter carrying a tray with flutes of champagne in it. Alex beckons him to come over, takes two flutes, and hands Josiah one. “I hope you’ve made better promises to yourself since then. Cheers.”

What terribly terrible wine.

it’s not that dakota was looking for anybody in specific, she would have much rather just avoided everybody like she’d done for the majority of her college days, but she was a changed person now. right? it seemed like her entire personality changed after graduating but once she was walking through the corridors of rvu, it was as if she completely resorted to the introvert she was ten years ago. the words she nervously rehearsed in her head continued on repeat. ‘you are a successful published writer, beautiful and strong. you aren’t who you were, people like you’ ⁠— but do they really? the brunette sighed in defeat. “okay, so i don’t recognize anybody.” she said to the first person who happened to be headed her way. @againextra​

“I DON’T RECOGNIZE YOU EITHER.” Alex does not lie. This woman before him looks like everyone and no one from his college days, and speaks truth when he says that she is not the only at a loss. Although some faces are easier to discern, the haze of a ten years-past proves its effectiveness in recognizing anyone, and there is no fault there for: “-- such is the premise of time passing for a decade.” Though sharper now with his words, Alex extends his hand to her and greets her, “congratulations on graduating ten years ago.”

November 2, 2009 19.04: Good evening. Thank you for the pie, it was good. Would there be any chance of knowing where you got it? Anyways, we had originally brushed the situation off as accidental, figuring it was a honest mistake. But since they kept asking for a Nikolai, one can only assume they had gone to the wrong floor. While we did not get a name for the latest one, she was okay. Confused, but okay. She's blonde and blue eyed if that's of any help. - The Tenants Below You

winnie had never been the best at doing her homework. she would open the book, scan to the spot that she had last left off reading, and then… her mind would start to wander. there were so many other fun things that she could be doing, after all. and before she had even reached the end of the page, the girl would inevitably jump up from her bed and then she would be off in search of new things.

today, she had found herself missing her old friend, alex. it had been a week or so or maybe longer? since she had seen him last and winnie decided that that would simply have to change. grabbing her phone from her desk, she fired off a quick  string of texts and was out the door.

winnie →  alex : wanna grab food or something?

VALENTINE’S DAY HAS BEEN A SUCCESS. Alex had picked up his Valentine after class, linked arms and snuggled close as they walked to her off-campus apartment, and danced around each other in the kitchen as they prepared their Valentine’s day dinner. As per usual, it had been been full of laughter and Korean spices. Alex offered to pack up the leftovers, and his wonderful, wonderful Valentine poured him a mix of soju and Yakult -- Mom’s favourite. 

This year is the second year that they had to celebrate Valentine’s day without Dad, and since he isn’t with them anymore, Alex did his best to fill in the gap he had left behind -- and that meant spending the post-Valentine’s weekend with his mom, doing the most mundane of things in the most mundane of times. Currently, he sits on the other end of the couch listening to rambles of Mom’s TV show as he reads over a case study; his mom quiet and attentive to her show. His phone vibrating is definitely a change of pace.

Also, mom says hi and asks how you’re doing. She's asking if you’d like to come here and watch Grey’s Anatomy with her in her apartment.

November 1, 2009 09.10: Hello again. Another mystery girl showed up at our door last night mistaking it for yours. We have no idea if that was your intention or not but she left after camping outside our door. This is the fifth time this month and we'd sincerely appreciate it if their drunken 2 am knocking could stop. - The Tenants Below You
