winnie laughed, her head dropping back. βitβs the ego,β she confided. βnothing hotter than a guy who wonβt stop talking about how hot he is.β he tugged at her shirt and kissed the exposed shoulder and winnie let out an over-dramatic, scandalized gasp. βmy word, mr. vasilier but you do take liberties. what would the townsfolk say if they saw?β still, she couldnβt deny the slight shiver that the brief contact had caused. it definitely wasnβt a lack of chemistry between them that had made her call things off. βand the perks of certain clever girls is that they donβt have threesomes with their roommates because that would be so very stupid of them. edith is polite enough not to complain about your near-constant presence, letβs not traumatize the poor girl.β a groan of protest escaped her lips as he stole and finished off her not-water bottle. βrude, nik. very rude.β his response brought a chuckle to her lips. βaw, and you were thoughtful enough to include me on your list of girls to trick? iβm so flattered. though iβd say that itβs been less effective than your o b v i o u s thievery of my vodka. because now you really do owe me a drink. but then, i would hate to drag you away from any of your girlfriends on this most sacred of holidays.β
vcsilievβ:
he hummed softly , as if her response pulled him into DEEP THOUGHT ; nimble fingers moving to absentmindedly play with the fabric of her shirt .Β β well , is that why you have secretly fallen in love with me ?Β β instinctively , the boy had leaned in closer as he let his head fall to the side slightly .Β β my impeccable skills to dress myself ? because if that is why , i am almost offended .Β β nikolai let go of the plastic with ease , once again leaning back on the bench to put some more space between the two .Β β for the RECORDΒ , i usually come by your place after iβve had my nightly dose of sexual activity for the night ; since someoneΒ ..Β β the boy tugged at the hem of her sweater , as if his point poignant tone wasnβt enoughΒ Β .Β β .. insisted that βwe shouldnβt do that stuff anymoreβ .β nikolai pursed his lips , fighting of a smirk before lowering his voice ; always being cautious of who might be listening in .Β β i just left the first date of the day , and will probably get into a fight with addison around noon and then spend the evening with brooke . that plan , however , can change if you need me to feed you chocolate and pour you champagne until this holiday is over .Β βΒ
winnie smirked, her small fingers going up to tangle into his mess of hair and putting on her best ingenue voice. βyouβve figured out my secret, nikolai vasiliev. iβve fallen hopelessly in love with you. the first time that i saw you properly match your shoes to your belt, my cold heart melted and i knew that iβd always be yours.β she chuckled and leaned back, letting her fingers drift lazily down the side of his face and to the leather jacket that he wore as her free hand reached again for her bottle. βthatβs true. but for the record, if someone,β she grinned rather wickedly, βwere to say that we should start back up again, that someone is fairly confident that sheβd have a certain frustrated rich boy at her door before she had time to warn her poor roommate.β winnieβs lips curled into a grin. βooh, a fight and an evening in? sounds almost impossibly sexy. careful that you donβt get too domesticated, vasiliev, or youβll lose that bad boy edge that makes all the girls want to change you.β
mcxiimcβ:
Β Β the womanβs voice c r a w l e d up his spine in what seemed like lightspeed. it was enough to make him stop in his steps that he so sternly directed towards the exit. instead he turned now β bright hues instantly scanning winnie. he would rather be caught dead than admitting to it but it would never be easy to look at her .. not with everything that happened between them β not when she looked as beautiful. frail fingers found the slim edge of his collar β firmly s q u e e z i n g it back into itβs right place. βwell.. you see..β and there was already another coldly wrapped almost insult ready to be unleashed from his tongue but he swallowed it β going for one of his half assed not really meant smiles .. the oneβs youβd see on a manager ready to seal the deal of his life. βthereβs no need to be worrying about me, guinevere.β there was acid burning in his veins, he was sure of that. yet there was nothing that held him back when he cleared his throat β ready to make a run for it. βwell, now.. if you donβt mind. Iβve got things to return to.β and, yes .. saying that hurt like a bitch. and, no .. he did not want to leave her like that. but what was he supposed to do?
being under his gaze, winnie felt stripped bare. not like the way that she sometimes did around douchebag guys at parties- like they were undressing her, i m a g i n i n g her. but like an x-ray used to reveal bones that had been broken. like he could look at her and see all of the ways that he had hurt her. all of the fractures that should have already healed but instead splintered. and it wasnβt fair. it wasnβt fair because after all of that time, shouldnβt it be her who could see him so clearly? she was the one who had actually cared. lithe arms wrapped across her waist as if to shield herself from his gaze, to hold herself together so that he wouldnβt see. but her smile didnβt falter.
his voice was music. it had always been music, but the sound was discordant and wrong. a piano out of tune. and the use of her name, her proper name, said as c o l d l y as she had always heard it growing up, nearly made her flinch. βdid i mention worrying about you, maxime? i just wanted to see if there was some rager last night that i hadnβt heard about, since it looks like you got about ten minutes of sleep.β and she wasnβt harsh, no, because harsh would reveal too much. instead, she spoke in the same tone that you might talk to your aunt or the grocery store clerk. friendly, in a detached way. and all of the things that she might have wanted to say stayed buried in her chest. βiβm curious,β she said with mock-earnestness, βwhat if somebody were to respond to that, βwell, i do mind, as a matter of fact.β i mean, are you stuck in conversation with them, then? trapped by social conventions until they release you?β she laughed the same easy laugh that she might have if she were talking to one of her friends. good.

josie raised an eyebrow at winnie , trying to figure out if she was being serious or not . β wait , you really donβt remember what βalexaβ is ..? hooo boy, okay . picture , like , an in-home robot that does things for you when you talk to it . itβs all voice activated . itβll make internet searches , tell you the weather , play you a song .. all while you sit back on the couch and donβt do anything . make sense ? β
winnie listened attentively. though she wasnβt exactly a techy, she was always fascinated by the things that people could create. βwow, okay, that does admittedly sound pretty badass,β she laughed. honestly, it sounded like something out of a sci-fi movie. βnot shocked i hadnβt heard of it, though. that sort of thing- thatβs the kind of thing that some millionaire would have. iβm a lot more in the βeating ramen and drinking two buck-chuckβ range than the βpersonal robot servantsβ range.β
mcxiimcβ:
Β Β there was a joke in here β somewhere. there had to be one. this couldnβt be real. this all had to be one big fat joke. ha ha, laugh it up, people. max swallowed and it felt like it took him f o r e v e r. somehow .. none of this felt right. he looked right β same face, same attitude. but there was something LINGERING. but β¦ why? β get a grip, man..β flat hands smoothing out bumps in his shirt β eyes turning n u m b. β donβt make me come over there.. β a thread without any real b i t e, as always. it was mere a cold warning β something distantly familiar. β well, since youβre already here.. β seconds passed by in utter silence. β nah, forget it. you wouldnβt understand it, anyways.β with that he brushed past the person.
it was never... easy to see max. it usually came with a lurching feeling in her gut, something like a hand gripping onto her stomach and squeezing as hard as it could. but as she passed him today, winnie was struck with the ache more strongly than usual. it was also accompanied by something that was harder to put her finger on... reminiscence? like looking back at an old photograph. and maybe just a tinge of worry. because he looked odd. odder than usual, even. he looked as misplaced as she felt. and he was brushing past some kid with more than the usual brusqueness that colored his tone and then suddenly they were standing in front of each other and she was scrambling to put her usual easygoing smile back on her face. βlooks like you had a rough night,β she said lightly. and only somebody who knew her well could have heard the slight softness in her tone.
vcsilievβ:
β that is one of the less subtle ways to let the world know that you donβt have a date tonight. β the leather softly scraped against the doorframe as the boy moved from his leaning position in order to cross the room. the small ache just behind his eyes were not something out of the usual; nor was it something that stopped him from snatching the suspiciously-smelling bottle from the girlβs hands and take a swig.Β β where did it all go wrong, babyΒ ? you should have let me know that you were all by yourself, i would have made sure to fit you in somewhere during the day.Β βΒ
βfirst of all, baby, i donβt do valentines dates. theyβre bland. prix-fixe menus and pressure to βstart something seriousβ with a guy that couldnβt figure out how to tie his own tie right? no thanks.β winnie laughed, shaking out her hair as she took back her bottle for another shot. βmuch more fun to get blackout and see where the night takes me. and anyways, i wasnβt so worried about making it onto your illustrious schedule. canβt remember the last weekend that i didnβt get a βu up?β text from you, so i donβt see why that would change now. but iβll bite. what spectacular plans have you got lined up for the night? β
