guys please please PLEASE stop making Ilya borderline inarticulate in English. He has literally been in Boston for most of the year, since he was 18 years old and was/is SURROUNDED by people who he mostly conversed with in English. He probably spends less time speaking Russian (and ofc in Russia) than English. HIS HUSBAND SPEAKS ENGLISH TO HIM EVERYDAY.

As someone who learnt English after moving to another country, you would be surprised how much we pick up simply by listening. When people write fics where Ilya is playing for Ottawa and STILL can’t speak a full sentence of grammatically correct English, a part of me genuinely dies. Like, I understand him making mistakes or missing certain words but he’s not non-fluent either.

And at first the comments on the video are all like "Haha, Rozanov, you're meant to pick something that could be true, not something that's so obviously a lie."

And then all of a sudden, people just start commenting zoomed in photos of Ilya Rozanov's eyes. And the internet loses its fucking mind.

And that's how Ilya and Shane reveal their relationship timeline.

Shane also participates in the video. Because he is so chronically offline, he misinterprets the trend and proceeds to give the three most obscure hockey facts he knows, with one detail slightly off in one of the facts as his lie. No one notices for weeks, too caught up in the "7 years" of it all of Ilya's turn.

When people do finally notice, their comments go from "Shane Hollander put up with Ilya Rozanov fuckboi-ing around for SEVEN YEARS" to "Shane Hollander kept Ilya Rozanov interested for SEVEN YEARS? He might be the most boring man alive."

Neither of them acknowledge the "fuckboi" comments, but Ilya responds to as many "boring" comments as he can with variations of "Yes 😊"

I've seen a bunch of "fandom etiquette" posts on my dash today and I'm going to say something that is maybe going to be unpopular but;

The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.

And I am not going to mince words here:

A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.

That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.

"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.

So much of "fandom etiquette" seems to be about insulating creatives from Feeling Bad and hostility to any kind of negative feedback is a pretty big contributor to why bigotry festers in these spaces.

People complain a lot about the behaviors set forth in TLG for many reasons and I think it's generally valid to criticize of course but (Not to be mean) I sincerely wonder if some of you have actually been in a relationship before lol. *proceeds to be mean*

It is like. So Fucking Easy to fall into whatever routine you may have with someone and become complacent in it. Doesn't matter what it is. Doesn't matter how much you love them. And you think you are being a good partner and doing your best and you're really fucking not!!!

Shane's capacity to be selfish in the way he doesn't recognize Ilya's needs. Ilya being resentful of Shane because of this. But Ilya can't bring himself to actually explain his problems bc it's too difficult and thinks Shane can't understand, ostensibly cutting him off.

They both fuck up comminucating these things to each other because they have never even been in an actual relationship with anybody else before. It takes fucking years to learn these skills! It is not easy.

I'm just saying I was kind of personally attacked by this book honestly. I have been both Ilya and Shane many times in my life. The actual plot of the book is like whatever to me (fucking Diamonds), but their dynamic is very real to me actually.

getting emotional at the thought of shane and ilya stumbling into that flint of desire conversation. ilya goading shane asking if he jerked off to posters of hockey players in his room when he was a teenager, trying to get a rise out of him and make him blush. but shane, extremely earnest in that way of his, says when i jerked off as a teenager it was just like a bodily function, i wasn't really thinking of anyone. the other boys would talk about beautiful actresses or look at dirty magazines but they never made me feel anything really. and ilya is still making fun of him poor shane you didn't think of anyone because you were waiting for me, hm? it's only me? and shane. in that earnest way of his. says yes. eyes shining. says i didn't know, not really. until you looked at me in those showers. i didn't know it could feel like that. and ilya obviously has to fuck him violently about it immediately

Yeah, I have this head canon where the Centaurs are sitting around talking about their sexual awakenings, and when it gets to Luca's turn, he goes red and gets all flustered and finally admits it was "Ilya Rozanov". And without thinking, Shane just says "same". And all the other Centaurs make fun of Shane because, "Of course you'd say that. Your husband is the most possessive (positive) man on the planet. He gets jealous when you see the physio and threatens to fight every fan who posts anything remotely thirsty online." But Ilya just stares at Shane in stunned silence, because he KNOWS. He knows Shane didn't mean to say that. But he said it because it's the truth.

And then Ilya is dragging Shane out of wherever they're having this conversation, because "We're going home, Hollander." And Shane's just waiting for Ilya to tease him, because how pathetic that he didn't even know people (men) could be attractive until he met his husband. And Ilya's gonna tease him about it, but later, because first, they've gotta fuck about it.
