The fastest way to accomplish The Project is to cease being afraid of The Project. The Project cannot maim you. The Project cannot kill you. The Project is more afraid of you than you are of it. It is okay if The Project turns out differently from how it was in your head, and it is okay if it has flaws. You are capable of engaging with The Project.

July conference 3/?
One of the most famous (and most intimidating) theoretical physicists of my country in my field casually sat with me at the breakfast and talked to me for 40 minutes. He was kinda nice and blunt at the same time? It's so weird. I kinda wanna scream.
I didn't think I would actually accomplish the task of establishing communitcation with theoretical physicists that my advisor gave me.
is this gonna get me fired you think
One thing that pissed me off at the conference is how people are using AI.
It seemed like every person who sat in front of me with a laptop was using AI. They used it to generate text, code and slides. Several experimental physicists admitted they are actively using AI to generate code for their experiments. One person said that they wanted to study and fully understand a specific complex theoretical model and than pulled a phone to ask AI about it.
I think that if a scientist cannot write an introduction for their article it means they don't know enough on the subject to write a good article. If a person cannot code for their experiment - they are not good at doing experimental physics.
In the end, I just think that when you're a scientist, your job is to use your brain. The AI is opposite to using your brain.
July conference 2/?
- I survived my first serious oral talk! It went pretty well and I got asked a bunch of questions during the welcome party. One professor even stopped me in the hotel corridor to discuss my work. No one was mean and I got some useful advices. I'm also surprised that there's a lot of young participants on this conference. I'm glad that there's someone expect middle-aged and older men.
- I actually to managed to meet some new people!
- I spent my evening trying to finish intro for my article. I kinda hate writing introductions.
July conference 1/?
- My train took 4 hours to get to the final destination instead of 2 hours because of the bad weather. I also had to get an hour ride on the subway to get to the train station, so I'm exhausted.
- I got caught in a downpour. The water got into my suitcase somehow and half of my clothes are wet.
- I've decided that I'm treating this trip as a vacation (that I did not pay for). The hotel is surprisingly nice. The suite is bigger than my dorm room. The water pressure is amazing.
- I'm actually very scared to present tomorrow I don't even have the words for it. I know some of the theoretical physicists here and I'm afraid they might make me cry.

Surviving the summer of PhD program admission 2/?
- Officially graduated last week. I guess it was fun changing my degree to Master's on ORCHID and ResearchGate profiles.
- Started on the slides for my interview for the PhD programm. It's so hard to make slides that are both pretty and efficient. I'm also nervous about the interview because I don't have much of a groundwork for the dissertation yet. Well, I have some, but it's either incomplete or a bit far-feched.
- I started learning LaTex! I guess I should've do it earlier, but it's not so popular in our lab. So far I think it's cool and very helpful faith the text formatting.
- I'm leaving for the conference on Sunday. I have to give an oral talk on Monday. I'm so scared to give a talk on the conference that is not aimed to students.
- There is also a lot going on at the lab. Like I've started writing another paper. Also, I'm trying to prepare new structures for the (PhD) experiment but keep failing due to very stupid reasons. Me and my friend got an old microscope (it made in 1960s, I think) from our advisor. We're tinkering with it. Hopefully, we'll be able to upgrade it bit and use it to make a set-up for the assembling structures from 2D materials.
Surviving the summer of PhD admission 1/?
It's graduation day tomorrow but I'm so deep into PhD application I don't have time to process (or celebrate) that I am Master of Science now. Like 15 years old version of me would think that it's cool.
A few days ago an email poped up with an information about admition. As it turns out, I'll have to submit a thorough four year plan for my studies at the interview. I had a hard time completing it since the first steps will affect the later steps in a way I can't really predict. I'm also changing my research direction a bit, so I'm kinda scared to mess up the interview.
I also have to present at the conference in a week and I'm so not ready.
Accomplishments for today:
1) Got a recommendation letter from the lab director.
2) Prepared a draft for my four year research plan.
3) Submitted the admission documents.
Me a week ago: I hope no one I know irl will ever see my Tumblr posts.
Me now: wonder what will happen if I add my Tumblr to my ORCID profile.
