omg this reminds me of all of those fuckin racist “Black name” urban legends that i still see make the rounds today, and are just gobbled up by white people without question. if you’re unfamiliar, watch out for the following stories online that usually begin with a sentence or two about “real” children who have supposedly been given these names, all of which are coded as Black names:
La-a (purportedly pronounced “La-dash-a”), this is the one that i personally still see the most, “oh look how funny it is Black people are so stupid haha,” fuck you
Oranjello and Lemonjello (pronounced Oh-RAHN-jeh-loh and Leh-MAHN-jeh-loh), this one is not funny even if you ignore the racism
Female (but pronounced “fe-MAH-lay), another joke about pronunciation, a Black pronunciation joke omg just slapping the shit out of my knees over here
Shithead (but pronounced Shit-TEED), oh it just keeps going i never get tired of this, look how funny Black names are pronounced ahahaha (ok we’re done now i promise)
There’s a few more that exist but those are just some of the most common ones. Text posts/videos that promote these urban legends will usually begin with something like “my friend’s aunt who works in a hospital saw this…” or something similar, and it’s all fake. no one who has worked in a hospital has ever seen a parent give their kids any of these names because they do not exist. it’s just racist “jokes” about Black names
