Ringtone

A sound i didn't recognize had cut through the smoke

i turned around in awe as you had laughed at my joke

I caught the sound on camera, it was barely a second long

i saved it as my ringtone, it was better than any song

But in the sober mornings, the regret follows your calls

for now i'm alone and miles away, but your laugh still haunts my walls

like a ghost you still haunt me and perhaps you think of me too

we were barely civil in life, but in death i would love you

another laugh echoes and it shatters through the haze

every call you make leaves my mind an endless maze

our gaze was always empty, much like the words we yell

a genuine laugh from you burnt hotter than any hell

You had called very rarely. how many? i lost track.

I'd throw my phone, punch and scream, but never called you back.

You make me so angry, citrus acid fills my head

i want to scream something hurtful, but my brain is melted and dead

i hate your way of thinking, i hate your spiky hair, i hate that we can't talk, i hate that you're not there.

Your laugh has become so rare now, i suppose in your mind i had died.

In the end we were never friends,
