My favorite part of Maul Shadow Lord is that it beautifully depicts Maul’s fatal flaw in that he cannot move on. He spent the first few episodes expertly recreating his criminal empire just to flush it down the fresher because he will not move on from Devon and get off the planet. He so DESPERATELY needs to recreate what he had with Savage and kill Sidious that he fumbles the advantages right in front of him. His crashout in episode 8 shows this perfectly: he lives every moment in the past, reliving every atrocity done to him. He tries to tell himself, “I won’t let this happen to anyone else,” but he’s incapable to going about that in any way other than plowing the same trail of death and destruction in a single minded effort to kill sidious. He won’t work with anyone, won’t join the very real efforts to take the empire down outside of manipulating them to working for HIS plans. At the end of the day, he’s like and injured dog licking his wounds over and over again, letting them fester and never heal.

The genius of this show is that it shows Maul as the dark side in its purest form- only find that it’s just sad, pathetic, and self-destructive.
