A big part of Julien's complex about Thjazi absolutely has to do with his age. Julien is "on the cusp of 30" meaning he's 28 or 29 years old. He also took part in the Falconer's Rebellion 10 years ago meaning he was 18 or 19 years old when he "brought Thjazi to heel." That's already insane but it gets even crazier when you remember Thjazi is like at least 2 decades older than Julien
And when you think about that, you have to think about how Julien rose House Davinos "out from the mud" before all that which means he was even younger when that happened. And then you think about how young he must have been when Thjazi married Aranessa. If I were a teenage boy who accomplished more than most grown men and was in love with my older noblewoman childhood friend, I would also despise the much older, stationless man who swept her off her feet
He isn't even 30 and he reformed his house, became a knight, is a fantastic fighter who personally took down the leader of the Falconer's Rebellion, is known and renowned and respected amongst the nobility. And none of that matters because Aranessa is still in love with the man who turned his back on her and most of Dol-Makjar still loves Thjazi Fang and thinks he's a hero
