If you care about Animal Cruelty in Factory Farms, you need to get legislation passed. It must become a crime to mistreat animals in those ways, and when malfeasances occurs, the onus of responsibility for those crimes must fall upon wealthy shoulders. That, also, requires legislation. It requires regulations, and regulators.

The largest source of Microplastics is wear and tear on automobile tires. It doesn’t matter what brand of shampoo you buy. It doesn’t matter which company you support with your dollar. The issue of Public Transit is too large-scale to be handled at anything less than the municipal level.

It’s not enough to just not participate in society

If you want the world to Change, you must leverage the mechanisms of political power.

Corporate ableism is not the kind of trauma I thought I would be struggling with after surviving so, so much when I was “freshly” disabled. I’ve been through abandonment by friends, family, the fight for medical care, 7-8 colonoscopies, 2 surgeries, a few hospital stays, who knows how many trips to the ER. But this one came out of nowhere. A place full of people who all know me and support me. But upper management decided I’m a problem because I dared to speak up against their ableism and ask for accountability. They thought they could just bury my complaint in paperwork and change the subject.

I’ve worked once in the past 3 months. Less than 20x this year, and July’s almost over now. My savings is gone. I don’t know how I’ll get through this. I just paid off my loan from when I took time off for my surgeries 2 years ago.

I feel completely defeated. I thought this was a safe job for me, flaring or not flaring.

People just really, really hate the disabled and think we’re a stain on society. On the “professional optics” of the workplace. We make it look icky to them.

for example, we have a microscope that is perfectly functional, good microscope, but its software is abandonware because the company refused to maintain it. the company is still in business, still makes essentially the exact same software, but they made all of the old tech incompatible with new software to force people to buy the new microscope tech. it would cost a quarter million dollars to replace this microscope. this perfectly good microscope.

They required having tech from the past sixty years ready at a moments notice (if X fails, try Y, then Z, etc). A lot of the older digital methods are all abandonware, sitting on computers developed in 1991 because they couldn't figure out how to safely transfer or migrate them to newer hardware (or even knew they had! found a server from '95 at the back of a closet somehow still running! connected to a powerstrip from '89! I kept the powerstrip, it's so chunky.)

One of my favorite jobs was figuring out how to get this software that had virtually no documentation remaining (likely buried in the office, but I never found it), or instructions, or really anything to a modern, more resilient, system. The company went out of business in '93, and the only known developer I could track down was in a retirement home.

I did eventually shift it over to run in a container/emulator for DOS, but it was a nightmare (one I loved) that took me months of hacking things together to figure out how it all went together.

They were down to a few of these disks and the company no longer existed.

Well, I ran a hacker BBS and using MASM to Crack games was a hobby of mine, so I told them I'd give it a shot.
