The Men are not being helpful
This is basically the plot of DMF 🙏
still not over chapter 4 of dead man's fiction btw
You and me both 🫠🫠💗💗
Hi! I'm planning to finally get back to reading (and hopefully finishing) Dead Man's Fiction during my upcoming school break, and was just wondering if the title was inspired by Dead Man's Folly by any chance? 👀 sorry if you've already addressed this 😅 (only read ~2 chapters before, well, things. I enjoyed them regardless!)
and in a similar vein, am also curious about any other literature/media/etc. that you might have referenced/been inspired by during your writing process! ^^ especially what with the slightly more historical setting
(feel free to just direct me to posts/any author's notes if you've already mentioned these! and thanks for reading through this ask)
I can't remember exactly how that title came about, actually... I have this list of ideas in my notes app but don't keep track of where I get them 🥲 That being said lot of them do come from skimming the shelves at bookstores and mashing up the titles I think are cool, so there's a very high probability that you're right 🙏💗 As for the stories/movies/songs that inspired it: so, so, so many lmao. I feel like music is a powerful inspiration for a lot of writers and I am no exception -- the song that kicked off the entire story was Fast Car by Tracy Chapman ("your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder / and I had a feeling that I belonged / I had a feeling I could be someone,") and just imagining Will and Monty on horseback riding across the prairies made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside egfaiegfoiguef 💗💗💗 The rest of the story kind of fell into place around that in a way that I hadn't experienced in a WHILE, so a lot of the writing process was just chasing that creative high if I'm being honest lmao As for other media! I tried to stay as true as possible to their short stories (William Wilson/Cask of Amontillado + a little bit of Masque of the Red Death) and include those character's -isms in there, too. It was really funny to me that Will was actually the one who tried to swindle people in his short story, so I kind of gave that scene back to him in chapter 5 of part one (Love Game, I think?) And then with the historical accuracy...I'm sure it's like, super off 🫠 I went into it thinking it was just gonna be a fun little short story and then it kind of got away from me, so I never actually sat down to do the hard research about the time. Plus in the comic I think it's implied that Will and Monty are from different decades so that was a whole other dimension of historical-ness that I just kind of glossed over in pursuit of Gay Smooching...which I have zero regrets over lmao. Luckily I think the fact that the story is more focussed on interpersonal relationships kind of distracts from that (hopefully), but needless to say when I go back and edit I'll be tightening up a LOT of stuff But! One of the best research tips I've ever gotten is to look up "What movies/books get wrong about ___" to find a bunch of actual experts explaining stuff in detail. I also love reading books with similar settings that are praised for accuracy (Andy Weir books are like, the holy grail of sci-fi from what I've gathered) which I think is more fun than reading the academic papers by a MILE lmao. Anyways! I fear I rambled a little at the end, but hope this helps regardless haha. Thank you so much for reading DMF, and I hope you get plenty of time to relax and enjoy the fandom over your break!! Sending love 💗💗💗

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💗
(Throwing more opportunities to shout out DMF in your general direction 😂)
Thank youuu lmao 💗💗💗💗 ❤️🔥 Dead Man's Fiction is my baby, favorite thing I've written in a while! It's a pre-canon Nevermore AU about what it might have been like if Will and Monty met in Kansas before they died. Gratuitous cowboy dialogue, dust bowl vibes, cardplaying, and even a Prospero cameo :) And it has a second part now, too! 💌 Yours Regardless is the aforementioned part two :) Working off of the "missing scene" model, it follows the boys through their days at the Academy. While pieces of their life together return to them in memory, they also have to deal with the demons (metaphorical and literal) that have followed them beyond the grave. This one is still ongoing, but updates regularly! I try to respond to as many comments as possible, so feel free to join the fun <3 🌹 Red as the Rose is my first fanfic, which I wrote for the Good Omens fandom! Also a missing scene plot, based on the flashback from 537 AD when they're knights. In this one, Crowley is on an assignment to kill King Arthur of Camelot. Has all the goods: drunken scheming scene, ballroom scene, etc, etc.
Happy August Everyone!!
To make the dawn of the school year more lighter, here’s an unfinished William and Montressor animatic I didn’t finish because of school :,)
TW: Mention of Suicide within lyrics and illustrated knife and blood!!!

Wiltresor in a dead mans fiction scene 👀
Montresor pries him off. The adrenaline has him feeling electric, bordering on giddy, but he'd shoot himself in the leg before he hugs Will back. "Don't need your apologies, I need a goddamn explination."
This was like after the hug,if I got it right T-T
I had so much fun drawing this, and I thank you a lot for waiting patiently!
Looking forward to more requests^^
this close to drawing something about dead man's fiction:yr 🤏
me accidentally telling people it's updated be like
Thank you for your service 🫡💗💗
I think I’ve only ever posted pride art in July 💀

How do you go about writing timeskips and such????
-- A curious bird
An excellent question…the answer to which I am still trying to figure out myself 🫠 I’ll say, I think it’s definitely dependent on the kind of mood you’re going for!
For like a surprise “5 years later” thing, it’s always fun to close with a piece of dialogue and then open the next scene with something really jarring; maybe the characters are standing in the same spot, but the environment is unrecognizable, like a jumpcut in a film. Maybe the characters are acting differently towards each other, arguing over something they used to agree on. Maybe some of them are just not there. Pretty much anything that prompts questions that you can answer as you go along in the story.
For a shorter time skip, I like to make it easier by staging it around an event (like a dinner, a trip, a meeting, etc.) that has a specific time frame that your readers are aware of. Then you can just do a fun little before-and-after, and it’s a little more natural. This is also great if you have exposition you want to offload from one character to another! Instead of writing out the passing-on of info, you can just say something like “by the end of the dinner, Character B had more questions than answers” — cue the follow-up explanations that also serve as a refresher for the audience.
I fear that got a little rambly near the end, but I hope this helped! Happy writing!! 💗💗💐💐
In an animatic of dead man's fiction, what is one scene you would really want to have included??? (either from part one or two of the story, does not matter) ((But KEEP IN MIND if this animatic IS made it will take longer than it should to exist))
Anyways, what is something you really want in it?? And I'll see about if it fits with any lyrics from the song I wanna do! >:)
Ooo!
It’d have to be the scene that started it all — the one from chapter 4 where Will and Monty are riding out on the fields. I think I was listening to “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman and the vision just came to me and never really left.
The chapter itself was one of my favorites to write, because I think it captures the feeling of the story really succinctly; just the feeling of escaping from obligation, literal open horizons, being with someone who is starting to give your life a meaning it’s never had in an environment that’s both thrilling and dangerous…but of course, it can’t last. Will falling from the horse wasn’t planned originally, but I kind of got obsessed with how it mirrored Montresor’s fate later in the story. I made the train and its tracks represent a kind of escape, and neither of them are really able to cross that border it draws in relation to the town. (Also, if you want to get REALLY into deeper meanings, that barrier makes an illusion out of the “open horizons”). Will is injured when Montresor tries to bring him over that line, then denies Prospero’s offer to buy him a ticket. And Montresor has this lethal end brought about by his inability to disentangle himself from his past, literally bound to the line and that need to escape.
But anyway! Sorry for the tangent, Nevermore just has such incredible characters and it’s impossible to be normal about them lmao 🙏
Short answer is the horse ride scene from chapter 4! Slightly longer answer is anything involving the train :) If you decide to do the animatic, have so much fun!!!! Anything you make is gonna be absolutely fantastic 💗💗
“The great revelation had never come. The great revelation perhaps never did come. Instead there were little daily miracles, illuminations, matches struck unexpectedly in the dark.” (Virginia Woolf, To the Lighthouse)
Tallulah and the boys 💐 Next chapter of DMF will be posted soon!! Thank you so much for bearing with me through the hectic update schedule, life has gotten busy FAST 💀💗🙏
I was thinking of it so I hope you know that I thoroughly enjoy reading Dead Man's Fiction (well I hope you know since I've commented before... but still) and I love to discuss it with friends of mine and mostly go "AJHHHHHHUFIG6DIGURDIG7RD" cause it's hard to explain how much I enjoy it and how I think it resonates and is true to the ship! I also have always enjoyed the mood you set, if feels sandy, cowboy, smoke, cards, candles and dying! ^v^ which on a vent diagram that would be both Will and Montressor.
ALSO THE ART YOU MAKE FOR IT IS SOO GOOOOOOOOODD!!
Hope your having an amazing day!!!! Drink water and stuff!

Tell me Monty, is it really not him or did you just not know him well enough to judge?
"Will never could do a damn thing to save his own hide" aha. right.
