willada where will is the first man ada can just be herself with because he's so pathetic she doesn't value his opinion of her. it's easier with him when prospero is tiptoeing around her and annabel is hiding secrets. along the way she realizes he's become less of a bother and more of a friend. she's disappointed in herself. she knows what to expect when he gets too comfortable.

willada where ada is still awful and mean to him because she will never really change, but will seeks her out again and again. maybe he sees a bit of monty in her and can't bear to let it go. maybe he's just most comfortable being mistreated

willada where will still lets monty walk all over both of them and ada is finally learning to defend herself but not him, where he still makes snide comments about her that he doesn't really mean because it makes montresor smile.

willada where will gets too few nightmares and ada gets too many and neither of them can sleep, so sometimes they talk. never about the night of the wild hunt, but about stupid, unimportant things like favorite colors and the vague childhood memories they've seen in dreams. none of it will matter soon, anyway. they'd rather someone hear it now.

willada where ada is the first person will tells about himself (in a roundabout, awkward way) and her reaction is mostly confusion and a bit of anger that he tried to steal monty from her. she scoffs. he can have him anyway, it's not like she cares anymore. will almost cries from relief and she's forced to awkwardly pat his back. he's not sure she understands what he's told her, but he's never expected understanding. (he never even notices her relief.)

willada where ada finally tells him what happened to her when she was alive. she says it in bits and pieces throughout sleepless nights because looking at the whole picture is too painful. will understands why some is wrong but not all of it, and his attempts to comfort her are horrible. she doesn't cry but she doesn't mock him either, and there's a moment where she clings to his hand as she speaks. they never talk about it again.

willada where they get a little too close. people think they're dating, because what else can you expect from ada? she corrects them, disgusted with how they're dragging down her reputation, but can never separate herself from will. he just lets it happen as always. they both cling too hard, too desperately, to the things that make them happy.

willada where ada would choose herself over will because she's a coward, and he'd choose montresor over her because he's an even greater one.

We know that she has issues with self-esteem and tends to latch onto romantic pursuits as a means of making herself feel worthy of someone’s affection. We see Montresor take note of this and take advantage of it.

The times we’ve seen her develop feelings for someone, it’s in a situation where she perceives that they’re expressing interest in her, and I can see the way she behaves being her chasing the feeling of being loved rather than attraction to that individual specifically.

There’s also the fact that she probably cannot fathom a situation in which a man respects her as a friend or even a human being, because of her exploitative relationship with Thomas in life, so in order to be close to someone she feels she has to give them what she thinks they want from her. This is especially the case with Prospero in my opinion!! I truly think she admires him in a similar way to Annabel, but assumed her feelings were romantic because he is an attractive man, and again, because she was led to believe that he loved her and she didn’t feel she could pass up an opportunity to be cared for.

Idk it’s just all very comphet to me!!!
