A Hiccstrid Compendium by James_Rabbit There's only one chapter in this collection. Hiccup and Astrid wrestle and then accidentally have sex. It's so ridiculous I love it.

From the moment he first climbed up on Toothless’ back, Hiccup had been the most active of the Dragon Riders. Night Furies are fast with powerful wings, it meant he had to hold on tight with a vice-like grip or the winds would’ve knocked him off. The maneuvers they could pull off and the fact that he steered the tailfin, meant Hiccup had to be ready for just about anything. Toothless could change direction or perform a roll in a split-second and Hiccup had to almost foresee it just to keep up. But they all knew, Hiccup picked up on the most minute changes in his dragon’s body or behavior whether he realized it himself or not.

He was strong, athletic, ridiculously flexible and all while missing a leg, carrying burn scars over half of his body and even suffering the occasional devastating injury. Like a broken leg or even a broken spine once.

It’s been many years since that 15 year old boy first climbed up on the back of a dragon, the first to do so in 397 years of Hairy Hooligan history. He has been injured many times, fought countless of battles, became chief, married and carried children. Now in his late 40s and well on his way to his 50s, his body is finally having some trouble keeping up.

The Summer Banquets celebrating the warmer months are in full swing and he and Astrid have put together a great first feast. Tomorrow, it’ll be the kids’ turn. One of them might be becoming chief someday soon.

It’s with a tired sigh that Hiccup plops down on a chair, letting his cane lean against the table. It took him many stubborn months to accept that he needed it, now he’s all to happy to have it with him. The pain in his stump has settled in his left hip and lower back, he often can’t get around anymore without the help of that cane.

At least he did get to decorate it with a Night Fury head at the top while the shaft below it he carves to have dragons in flight depicted on it. Even after so many years spend with dragons, he still loves them just as much as he did when he was a boy.

“Tired?” Astrid asks him, putting a basket with packed leftovers from tonight’s feast on the table. It’s an obvious question with an obvious answer, there’s no need for her to ask and yet she does.

Hiccup smiles up at her, still so very much in love with her. She’s the most beautiful woman in the entire world, wrinkles and gray hairs and all.

“Well, the kids are out, we have the house to ourselves for the time being, so I might turn in early. If you feel like joining me…” He’s fishing and Astrid can’t help but smile back, her cheeks flushing despite all these years together, almost considering it.

Almost, but not quite yet.

“I think I want to dance first,” she says, strolling over and bending over to grab her husband’s hand.

“Astrid,” Hiccup shakes with his head. He’s happy with the suggestion, but she should know by now that his body just can’t keep up anymore. Not with her and, sadly enough, not with Toothless. And while his dragon has certainly aged as well, he moves as though he’s still in his prime.

“Come on, dance with me!” Astrid insists, taking his other hand as well before pulling him up on his feet. He lets her, although the pain in his left side does mean he leans on her.

“I’ve got you,” she tells him and makes sure she does have a good and supportive hold on him. He has that cane for a reason and she was the one who pushed him to get one.

Steadying himself with his always reliable wife right there with him, Hiccup finds his footing and draws back a little.

“I know you’ve got me,” he tells her. She always has him, always. There are so many things he wouldn’t have accomplished without her by his side. To help him, to encourage him, to push him when he needed to be. Without her, he would’ve been lost.

Kind of like he is now without his cane.

Astrid can see the uncertainty on his face, can feel the instability. Getting so used to using his cane, it feels extra strange to leave it for a moment.

“Follow my lead,” she says and that is the only reassurance that he truly needs. Just her being here, that is all.

Astrid was never planning on doing anything fast and energetic with him tonight, they’ve had many, many years to do those kinds of dances. Nowadays, slow is what they like to do most.

They start out by swaying from one side to the next, their hands on each other’s waists and their foreheads touching. It’s a sure way to work up to a reliable rhythm, a good start, something to build on. They have no music to work with and they don’t need it, they’ve never needed it.

With a smile and a silent giggle shared between them, they separate and grab each other’s hands as they lean back. They turn and meet each other again, their lips briefly touch and then they part again. Their left hands let go, their right palms touch, Hiccup moves forwards and Astrid backwards. Their gazes don’t leave each other once and the husband swears he can feel his pain numbing as they dance.

Their hands grab one another again as they twirl back towards each other, although Astrid spins further, ending up with her back to Hiccup. Her arms crossed in front of her stomach, his hands hold hers. Hiccup rests his chin on her shoulder as they go back to swaying a little.

“How’re you doing, Babe?” Astrid asks, turning her head to look at him.

“Now that I’m dancing with you? It’s like I’m back in my 20s and this is our wedding night all over again,” he tells her and somehow Astrid’s smile becomes even lovelier.

“I love you, Hiccup Haddock.”
