Okay so I’ve been curating my flowers to show here (obviously) but there’s honestly a lot of bald spots in my yard and garden that are very frustrating. I continue to put down new dirt and compost and the plants kind of limp along.
I dialed in on my roses. 4 bushes, all different types of sun. They’re all stunted and pathetic (like me!!) no matter how much water or compost I put around them. I was confused, frustrated, annoyed?? Maybe they need a kickstart with some fertilizer. So I google it. Looking for the best product. Recommendations range from fish emulsion and blood meal. Then lemon peel and coffee grounds.
Unanimously, gardeners say roses like acidic soil. pH of 6.5-6.0 range is good. Turf grass likes 7.0 to 6.5. Most plants like it a little on the sour side.
Oh! I got a soil test three years ago from the State university office! Let’s look that up!
My average soil is 8.0. Uh oh.
I bought this nifty little soil meter and check the soil around the roses.

I bought 10 pounds of sulfur we’re fixing this bish
In the high of buying 10 pounds of sulfur, I forgot to mention why this matters.
Plants need certain types of acidity to absorb nutrients. You can amend the soil with all sorts of rich nutrients, but if you don’t have the right pH, the plant has bellied up to the buffet with a straw in hand.
You learn something new everyday!
Also, buy bulk bags of dried beans from the store and broadcast them into your soil. Beans put nitrogen back into the soil, which all plants need.
